Guest comment Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 For well over a decade people would ask me how I can avoid it. Just look around its everywhere ... turn left there it is, go inside a shop there it is, take a walk down the street and yep there it is ... it of course is the one place I simply never walked into ... a Starbucks. I know it's hard to believe but not being a coffee person I had no urge. When people would want to meet me at Starbucks I would ask them to suggest a different place. Now I'm addicted. Every day for the past two weeks I've been having my dose of their Earl Grey tea and a chocolate chip cookie. They must put something in the water (opium comes to mind) to keep people like me coming back twice a day to spend over $5.00 for a tea and cookie per visit. I tell myself its insane yet as I create this post I can hardly wait to return. Quote
Guest epigonos Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Damn do I know how you feel. There is a place near my gym called "It's A Grind" where a group of us meet at 6 a.m. after working out. I find it hard to believe that I am crazy enough to pay $4.00 every morning for a triple non-fat Latte. It has gotten so bad that I even go on Saturday and Sunday -- days I don't workout. Go figure!!!!! Quote
Members TownsendPLocke Posted January 24, 2007 Members Posted January 24, 2007 I try realllllly hard to find a local alternative to charbucks.I even have a motto when folks want to go for Coffee "ABS"Anything But StarBucks. I will not speak the"lingo"when I am forced to buy a coffee there(such as at LAX)and will ask for a medium coffee-and that is all I order as I refuse to pay the outrageous prices for the fancy drinks. Why do both they and Peets insist on ruining perfectly good coffee beans by roasting them till all of the charecter of the bean is gone? I really hate them x( Quote

Guest epigonos Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 You got me there Funseeker22. No on the mornings I have an overnight guest I try to experience a very intense workout in my bedroom rather than in the gym. However, even then after my bedroom workout I go over to "It's A Grind" and bring us home Lattes. Quote

There is a saying that beans that are roasted dark often times are trying to hide the imperfections of the bean. Like you I try very very very hard to avoid them at all cost. Even though I don't care for Seattle as a whole I do have to give props for the area for having some of the BEST coffee like Vivace and Zoka's. Coffee is my life it's all I wanted to do since I was hrm about 15. Yes I was introduced to coffee offically by Starbucks but as my palate has gotten better I know that there is much much better out there then Starbucks. The best thing Starbucks has going for it is it's marketing. Sometimes one must take off the rose colored glasses and see them for what they really are. Hugs, Greg Quote
