Members marcanthony Posted November 20, 2006 Members Posted November 20, 2006 Hi: Hoping that some of our members own vacation homes in foreign countries and may be able to help with this question... Just wondering if anyone knows US companies that sell homeowners/liability coverage for vacation homes in other countries (specifically Canada) ... or if you must buy this kind of coverage from the country of residence. Guest RR Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Marc: I can't speak for Canada as I do not own property there. But, I can tell you that in both Russia and Spain I have had to get the insurance for our apartments/villas through a local provider. Russia was more complex as many people do not carry insurance there. Spain was not so hard. It was kinda of like doing it in the states. I did not have to pay a high rate as a foriegn national, but I did have to prove I owned both places and then show documents of a bank account in local currency for both. My guess is that no USA company will insure property in other countries do to networks of appraisers, contractors, and adjusters not being there. Hope this all helps. Also, you might contact Lloyds as they back most of the insurance companies abroad I think. RussianRob Quote

AdamSmith Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 >have begun to sift through some CND brokers. You ought not to have given me that geography lesson. Now you risk having a couch-crasher any random weekend, once you snag the subject property. I will let TY have the couch when his back gives out from sleeping on the floor. Or from other strenuous activity. }( Quote
Guest RR Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 No problem. Enjoy the new vacation home! Hopefully it is in Montreal! I would gladly rent it for me and some hot Montreal boys! Quote
