Guest straycat Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I'm probably overlooking something very simple but I cannot find how to create a new folder to store and/or direct emails to. Anyone happen to know how in gmail I can do this? Quote
Guest eastburbguy Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 gmail has a user group message board which can be very helpful. Last week I was trying to help someone change their password and all the obvious "channels" led to a dead end. Within 15 minutes of my posting on the user group message board, my problem was solved. Try it! http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Discussion Quote
Guest rendie Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Gmail's equivalent of folders are called "Labels". You first create a "Label" and then use "Filters" in order to associate incoming emails meeting the filter criteria with the desired "Label". More info on labels below: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=1548 Hope this helps. Rendie Quote

Guest Anton Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Hi, I'm not sure if I should interfere here or not, but I thought I'd give you (and all the others here) the information below nevertheless. Maybe it's interesting to know what http://www.nerdshack.com/ wrote about Gmail? [small] This site serves as a direct reaction to the corporate portals which have actively chosen to trade your privacy for their profit. What prompted our reaction was the recent announcement of Google's new e-mail service, nicknamed Gmail. This service was revolutionary in that it would offer the public one gigabyte of storage, far more than any other free e-mail service in existence today, but would fund the service by selling targeted advertisements. What disturbed us, and a large portion of the observant public is the way Google intends to target their advertisements. Google is planning to build user profiles based on the contents of their e-mails. This profile, augmented by information about your Internet searches using their search tool will provide a curious observer with a frighteningly accurate picture of a users personal life. Here at the Nerdshack, we promise never to scan your e-mail, or allow anyone to access it without a court order. We intend to take privacy one step further; someday soon we hope to deploy a system that will automatically encrypt our users e-mail, thereby preventing anyone from accessing it without knowing the proper password. [/small] x( It's not up to me to say which email service others should use, but I do think it's good if people are informed. Useful to know? Guest FourAces Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Anton this isn't really new information however many people probably don't pay attention to what they're agreeing to so worth a post. I prefer gmail's very low key advertising over the constant in your face ad style of yahoo or hotmail. In reality the only ads I've seen associated with my gmail account have been text based. Personally I don't care if they scan my email. They're not reading it, the scan is to pick out specific keywords that appear multiple times. This is how they determine what text ads to feed to the user. To date I haven't had any problems with gmail. My only complaint is I can't figure out how to get rid of their new google talk integration that now appears to the left of the window. --- you can attempt to steal my money but don't expect me to look the other way while you're trying. Someone messaged me on that today for the first time. It frightened me so much! This little popping up and saying hello. When I'm on email it doesn't mean I want to chat. They really need to seperate the two things. Quote
