TotallyOz Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 A very good friend of mine and a long time poster on this board passed away in the USA. Firecat traveled with me to several continents and I have never met someone kinder to the boys he met. He is going to be greatly missed! BL8gPt, Aikuchi, dapitt and 11 others 14 Quote
Gaybutton Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Are you talking about firecat69? What happened? How did you find out? Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 7, 2021 Author Posted January 7, 2021 Yes, Firecat69. They found him yesterday. His adopted son in Thailand had not heard from him since Saturday so he called me today to help. I called the USA and they found him yesterday. I don't know much more. eurasian 1 Quote
Popular Post vinapu Posted January 7, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 7, 2021 His last post was on Saturday morning board time , which means Friday afternoon at where he lived so it looks it was sudden. He was always an advocate for fair treatment of boys and basher of cheap Charlies. Rest in peace Patanawet, Boy69, reader and 4 others 6 1 Quote

kokopelli Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 It is always a shock to read of the passing of a board member. RIP Firecat. I recall meeting him just once, many years ago, at a dinner with Michael, but did read his interpretative posts. TotallyOz 1 Quote
Jez1980 Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Rest well Firecat. Good man, met him twice once in Montreal and once in Pattaya along with Michael and a nice French dinner. Quote
vaughn Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 I'm sorry to hear the loss of your friend, and a member of the community. Rest in peace Firecat. Quote

williewillie Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Another former Pattaya farang also died at around the same time. He was known as Hubba Bubba Jim and died in Atlanta, Georgia of Covid. Jim didn’t post but was a well known raconteur. eurasian and reader 2 Quote

t0oL1 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Just the phrase -"His adopted Thai son" speaks volumes about him. Sounds like an incredible person that knew the value of sharing. Boy69 1 Quote

jonnycome Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Firecat69 offered to take me around bangkok on my first visit and we met for drinks and then out to bars. He was enjoyable to chat and knowledgeable about the boys and rates and mama sans. This was during the time he owned this site and he found me a great hotel near Silom 4 area. We only met that once but he leaves an impression. Quote

We only met that once but he leaves an impression. To be clear, he never owned gayguides.com He did own the gaythailand website for almost 9 years. He ran the site and the board. He had help from his long time companion in the beginning and then he did it on his own. He got tired of the constant updates code requirements (remember, it was a profile site and not just a forum). He was going to close it down completely and I asked him to let the forum continue. The profile section of the site was just too old to update easily. However, I have always loved the forum. He kept the name and forwarded it over to gayguides.com with the full forum in tack. I did remove posts earlier in this thread regarding this as I was unaware he shared that information with anyone other than a few close friends but there is another thread on another site about this so I wanted to clear things up. He encouraged me to take my first trip to Thailand many years ago and met me there and showed me around Pattaya. He was a good host. We traveled together over 4 continents. He had no tolerance for anyone who treated the boys in an unkind way. I have never met one lad that he went with that did not say how kind he was to them. He was kind to them and to me, and that is what matters to me. splinter1949, vinapu, williewillie and 7 others 9 1 Quote

We should be very thankful that he took on all the tasks of keeping gaythailand going and ensuring it was the most active and varied of the various Thai chat rooms. It is inevitably part of the job that the owner of a site will occasionally receive some flak from time to time. With his passing, our gratitude along with Michael's comments is surely all that needs be said. reader, TotallyOz, williewillie and 2 others 4 1 Quote
