reader Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 From The Nation The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has tested seven electric boats on Monday before they go into service from Friday. These e-boats will run along Bangkok’s Phadung Krung Kasem Canal in line with the project of improving the capital’s water transportation systeThese boats, run completely by power generated from solar cells installed on the roof, will be monitored by the authorities via the pre-installed GPS system. The new boats can seat 30 passengers and has space for one wheelchair. Canal boats run along the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal from 6am to 7pm on weekdays and 8am to 7pm on weekends. The 9.9-metre long and 2.9-metre wide boats can run at a maximum speed of 17 kilometres per hour, compared to the 15kmph speed of ordinary canal boats. vinapu 1 Quote
Guest Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 The maximum speed can be rather academic. Sometimes the boat operator starts off and runs as slowly as possible, until he's just in front of the next boat. Then he picks up enough speed to ensure there's no overtaking, so his boat is taking the maximum number of passengers and the next one is getting none. This is not a big problem for a tourist who has all day, but it might be annoying for regular commuters. Quote
