Guest travelerjim
GT Friends, My bf and I viewed two days ago - the new movie "'King Naresuan". It is now appearing nationwide. In my opinion it has - already in 4 days - become a blockbuster movie in Thailand - but it has the potential to become an epic blockbuster worldwide...it is that well done and has such appeal and action. There are to be 3 parts of the movie...this is part 1. Part 2 is to be released next month February 15th - and my bf says Part 3 is to follow in the 3rd month - but the news release says it will be December 5th. (I hope the Dec 5th date is wrong). Believe me - it is of epic proportions - and rivals the movie greats as The Ten Commandments - Star Wars - and more. My bf has already downloaded the screen saver of King Naresuan onto my personal computer :-) In Pattaya, it is featured at Big C Central Shopping Mall - many, many screens and several showings each hour starting for this film. The Thais are in line to get tickets. The film is in Thai but has excellent English sub-titles which allowed me to completely understand and enjoy this great movie. My bf and I are already waiting to see Part 2 next month :-) I hope you enjoy the movie as I and my bf did last Saturday! TravelerJim Taking a Thai to travel with or visit you outside Thailand? The webpages for this great movie are here and full of well presented historical information and photos. http://www.kingnaresuanmovie.com/ . http://www.kingnaresuanmovie.com/index_eng.php . http://www.kingnaresuanmovie.com/history_eng.php . http://www.kingnaresuanmovie.com/history_work_eng.php . http://www.kingnaresuanmovie.com/history_freedom_eng.php . Here is The Nation news story: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/01/23...es_30024844.php . "The Legend of King Naresuan" has set a new Thai box-office record, raking in Bt120 million in four days. The film is tipped to be an all-time blockbuster. Distributor Sahamongkol Film said the first in the Naresuan trilogy broke the previous record held by action film "Tom Yum Goong", which starred Phanom "Tony Jaa" Yerum and took in Bt90 million in four days. MC Chatrichalerm Yukol's historical epic is expected to follow the success of his 2001 "Suriyothai". That film remains the country's No-1 all time best-seller, with revenues of about Bt400 million. At the time, "Suriyothai" set a new record of Bt75 million for its first four days. An industry source said the first of the Naresuan trilogy could have dragged in even more if producers had printed extra copies. Another factor against the film is its three-hour running time - limiting the number of sessions a cinema can screen. "Only a quarter of the planned 260 copies were available during the first three days, and all prints were finished on Sunday only," said Sahamongkol distribution executive Chomsajee Techaratanaprasert. The second episode will premiere on February 15, with the final one scheduled for December 5. It is Thailand's most expensive film production to date, costing Bt700 million for all three. Distributors of Hollywood films have avoided competing with the local epic. Golden Globe winner "Babel" and "The Queen" will be released on February 22 and March 8. The second Naresuan will have to compete with the films "Charlotte's Web"; "The Queen"; and "I'm Cyborg but That's Okay", with South Korean heart-throb Rain in his acting debut. --------------------------------------------- Here are other websites with historical background on "King Naresuan The Great"... http://www.tonyjaa.org/sword_king.shtml . http://www.chiangmai-chiangrai.com/king_n.html . http://www.nu.ac.th/english/university/about/h_king.htm . http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2006/04/30...es_30002880.php . http://www.nsru.ac.th/langcenter/Willard/S...%20Naresuan.htm . Guest jimnbkk
BE CAREFUL!!!! When I looked at the posters at Big C in Pattaya the other day, I saw a "sticky" on the poster that said "English Subtitles". So, dumb me. I bought tickets for an evening performance. Two Thai friends and I plopped into our seats (front row - the only seats available for that or even subsequent performances that night). Well, there were no English subtitles. And there's a LOT of dialog. Friend tried to keep me cut-in on what was happening but it was impossible. BE SURE you ask the girl at the ticket window if the performance you are contemplating buying tickets for has subtitles. Believe me, the movie is 160 minutes long; a very long time if you have no clue what's happening. The cinematagraphy is fantastic. The actors are believable - I think. Thanks jiminbkk... .... for the note to make sure the film you are seeing DOES HAVE English Subtitles... My Thai bf bought the two tickets at the ticket booth - I guess he knew to ask for the English Subtitles... Frankly, I thought they all had English Sub-titles...but clearly my assumption was wrong. Thanks again jiminbkk for the posting. TravelerJiml
