"All night entertainment venues, including wet massage parlours, will open their doors again on Wednesday and some foreigners will be allowed into the country, but not tourists, as virus lockdown restrictions are further eased.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Monday gave the greenlight for all remaining entertainment facilities to reopen from Wednesday. They include pubs and bars, karaoke bars, and bath-sauna-massage establishments. "

 

"All reopening premises will be required to use the Thai Chana platform, created to alert businesses and customers to any Covid-19 outbreak.

Investors and highly skilled workers from Japan, China, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore will be allowed entry to the country on condition they enter a self-sponsored quarantine programme at private facilities arranged by the government. Short-term business visitors will be exempt from the requirement.

Foreigners who have family in Thailand, and those who have homes in the kingdom, will also be allowed to return, according to the spokesman.

Allowing in tourists from countries matched up with Thailand through a "travel bubble" did not get the full approval of board members of the CCSA, which is chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said health safety measures still have to be ironed out for Thai tourists going to other countries, and foreign tourists arriving here.

The Disease Control Department and Foreign Ministry were still working on guidelines which were also acceptable to partner countries, which have different health requirements, said Mr Anutin, whose Bhumjaithai Party guides health and tourism policies.

Foreigners coming to Thailand for medical treatment will be permitted in from Wednesday, but they must be accompanied by their partner, and enter quarantine at the hospital they go to.

“Only some medical tourism programmes, not all of them, will be permitted,” Dr Taweesilp said.

The decision to open up more businesses, and some travel, was made after more than a month without any new local infections being recorded in Thailand.

The meeting also agreed to extend use of the emergency decree until the end of July.

Restrictions were earlier lifted on restaurants, schools, malls and many sports activities - with enforcement of social distancing and body temperature checks.  "

It must be a soreal scene like entreating your self in surgery room at the hospital.

only they look too low. It looks to me as though peoples' virusemitting faces will be above those partitions, maybe so as to not obscure their view of the stage? Very useful then LOL

it's just decorum. Who , afraid of catching virus , in his right mind would  go to such venue ?

Droplets trajectory will go downward further away from source so they dont need the screen to be as high as the nose. Of course, a person with uncovered nose sneezing will project much further than what the screen can protect.

heavier droplets may fall downwards, but aerosols won't, especially from talking and laughing and easily travel to the next "cubicle". *IF* there were virus carriers in such a setting it could easily be a super spreader event. But of course, as vinapu points out, if afraid of the virus then simply shouldn't go. If not afraid, accept infection. Luckily, with no reported local transmissions for over a month, chances seem low so we hope it won't happen.

You are right. Either the gov are afraid of their own shadow or they themselves dont believe their number. By right, after 28 days, u can declare that your country is clear of covid-19 and no need to deal with strict SOP any longer. No transmission at all for 28 days should mean no chance of transmission going to happen after. 

On the other hand, like mentioned before, thai did not do mass testing like korean do, so they might still local transmission that goes undetected especially among younger generation who typically asymptomatic. Another reason might be theybare gearing up to open the border and want the local to be accustomed to this new norm so when they foreign tourist comes with a possibility of a new outbreak, itll be contained. Change in behaviour is not easy, look at how bad the US is dealing with anti-mask freedom fighter.

Sorry to say that is only partly correct. Have you seen the short Japanese-made vdo that has been shown several times on CNN? It clearly illustrates that droplets move forward as well as upwards for well about 2 meters.

This may be correct in theory but with the surge in US and S America cases, as Thailand relaxes border controls it may still make good sense to be extremely cautious.

I would urge all board members to take responsibility for their own health and not depend on venues to do this for them. 
 
Separately I hear anti-government sentiment is higher than ever due to lack of financial support to the masses. The budget numbers to stimulate the economy look good on paper but the man in the street is suffering with little immediate aid to ease job loss, hunger etc. Perhaps any member who is on the ground in Thailand can confirm if this is true or just hearsay?

Only very occasionally in my twenty-five years association with  Thailand has the country had a government elected fairly by popular vote; and when it has had one, the military invariably forces it out. Food queues and reliance on charity tend to create social disorder, wherever they are.

Task force to be formed to track tourists

The Royal Thai Police is forming a special task force to track down tourists infected with Covid-19 as Thailand prepares to reopen its airspace to travellers.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) will be in charge of tracking tourists, according to a source.

National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda has appointed Pol Lt Gen Sutin Suppuang, commissioner of the CIB to establish a "Covid-19 Investigation Division" to avoid any potential future outbreaks, the source said.

Pol Lt Gen Sutin admitted to the formation of this special division. Even though the government has yet to open its airspace to international flights, he said he has a blueprint on how the division will operate.

Staff will be recruited from the Thai Marine Police Division, Highway Police and Natural Resources and Environment Crime Suppression Division which normally work with the tourism sector. He added that police from the Crime Suppression Division will not be asked to join because they have their hands full.

"The nature of the Covid-19 Investigation Division will mainly involve tourist destinations and transport," said Pol Lt Gen Sutin.

Marine Police Division commander Pol Maj Gen Sithatkhet Kruwattanaset said marine police usually oversee passenger ships along the Chao Phraya River but after joining the Covid-19 division, they will be asked to watch over tourists on the rivers and seas and record where they travel.

Meanwhile, Natural Resources and Environment Crime Suppression Division commander Pol Maj Gen Wiwat Chaisangkha said his division can supply tourists with information about the force to ensure compliance.

It is unclear how closely the authorities intend following tourists though to some extent they can rely on the help of online apps.

Pol Col Charoonkiat Pankaew, deputy commander of the Highway Police, said highway police may also set up checkpoints along roads to inspect tourists by measuring their temperature and noting their destinations.

In addition, the help of investigators to track the travel history of tourists may also be enlisted.

Pol Maj Gen Worapong Thongpaibul, commander of Tourist Police Subdivision 1, said he will also propose the creation of an online application to track tourist movement.

He said the app will enable travellers to easily contact the police if they need help and that it can work alongside with another tracking tool, the Thai Chana platform.

every movement tracking app if , God forbid , successfully implemented will be mother of all evil no matter how useful it may be in preventing and fighting Covid.

One may be associated with venue in which something / covid, terrorist activity, serious crime, you name it / happened for many years after thing is over  as nobody will bother to remove it from data base.

Whether we steal the watch or our watch is stolen, fact is : we are involved in theft of watch , possibly tainting experience
