Love Sick The Series (2014)
This is a really old series, so it made me wonder when the hype with Thai BL series began.
It turns out, this was the first Thai BL series! And actually not a bad one. Maybe a bit "slow", not too much action,
and I wasn't 100 happy with the ending, but I still liked it. Also nice soundtrack.

(left: Phun, still in business, e.g. in A Tale Of 1000 Stars as Tien's friend; right: Noh)

The series must have been a huge success, since it was followed by season 2 with non less then 36 episodes.
Did anyone watch Season 2 - is it worth or better just watch a BL cut?

Here is a little bit about the history of Thai BL:
https://www.timeout.com/bangkok/lgbtq/thai-boys-love-culture
with at least 1 inaccuracy I think: "A Tale of Thousand Stars, its first Boys Love series that doesn’t feature a teen, nor an engineering student, in the lead."
Wasn't Tien an engineering student?

Indeed this is the first Thai BL series it was a huge success back then so successful that the second season included 36 episodes (!) . the second season is much better than the first one maybe too Many side stories nevertheless great fun . In my opinion it's a classic series one of the best ever made.

After watching the third episode of Lovely Writer no doubt it's one of the best BL comedies I ever saw the plot is very light , witty and funny but with genius structure the main character is involved with adaptation of his successful BL novel to a TV series and is basing his new upcoming BL novel on the events at the set while the main actor at the series is temporarily moved to live with him and trying hard to make a romantic move on him,The most funny thing is that the writer who is writing juicy daring BL novels is actually a virgin nerd and doesn't have any clue what to do with potential lovers in real life !

I agree 100%.

The series should actually be called "grumpy writer", not lovely writer. Its quite funny to watch Gene struggling to admit the obvious to himself. Also the Thai subtitle "Nabsib wants to kiss" is fitting well :).
As it turns out later, not every episode is pure fun though.

Thanks, this is so crazy! It must be a big industry already. It first dawned to me last year at BKK airport, when I saw this advertisement and thought Tharn/Type must be more famous than I thought or why would they advertise at a prominent place as BKK airport?

Do we know how much money is behind BL film industry? I imagine the most money comes from the publicity that is included in the series for all those skin whitening products and food supplements? And from the fan meetings?

What I also don't get, what's the psychology behind school girls shipping gay couples? Are there male straight classmates such bad guys?

I'm sure someone has theories or research. Maybe it's the same reason straight guys like lesbian porn? What's better than one cute guy? Two cute guys together! And I suppose it also means that no other girl will get to have them either if they are with each other?

It's statistically proven that many more girls watch these BL series and movies than boys/men. Don't ask me why, though!

Just found this study, gives a brief history and tries to answer the question "Loving the love of boys: Motives for consuming yaoi media".

not surprising at all. After all girls have plenty of attractive guys to salivate over,  just like  we do

22 New Upcoming Thai BL Series of 2021

Unfortunately, my most awaited series, "Bad Buddy", has still no release date.

What are you guys currently watching?
Last episode of "Lovely Writer" should be out today.
Other than that, I am watching "Fish Upon The Sky" and saw the first episode of "Y destiny". But mainly I am trying to catch up with the BL history and watching "Love Sick" season 2 (Ep 27/36 currently) and got in love with that series (or maybe with some of the cast).
No time for non-Thai BL left.

I took your recommendation from few weeks ago and started "LoveSick" season 1 and of course "Fish Upon the sky " every Friday, more for eye candies than the plot.

I'm waiting impatiently for "Baker boys " and "Bad Buddy"

thanks for the TST link. I thought the idea of it looked interesting. How do you guys have time to watch all of these things? I guess the short episodes help.

Right now I'm just watching Fish Upon the Sky. I like that it's light and fluffy. But I have a feeling that the second half is going to take a bit of a turn. For me the Meen/Duean storyline is more fun and interesting. Louis plays innocent so well with those big puppydog eeys.

that survey of course is focused only on manga so I don't know how much that skews thing with respect to all of these TV shows

I can no longer find that survey but I frankly believe it referred more to TV series and movies - live action rather than cartoons! LOL Certainly if you see a BL movie in a cinema, there will usually be a lot more girls than boys in the audience.
