GMMTV unveiled the upcoming BL drama Ossan’s Love Thailand at the GMMTV 2024 Up & About Part 2 event. The Thai drama stars the fan-favorite on-screen couple, Earth Pirapat Watthanasetsiri and Mix Sahaphap Wongratch. The pair are joined by Krit Shahkrit Yamnam. The new series serves as the Thai adaptation of TV Asahi’s popular Japanese series, Ossan’s Love.

Ossan’s Love Thailand revolves around a messy love triangle. Heng (Earth), an office worker in a real estate company, finds himself in an awkward situation after finding his photos on his boss Kongdech’s (Krit) phone. As Heng has never liked men before, Kongdech’s confession leaves him in utter shock. To further complicate the matter, Heng’s new colleague and roommate, Mo (Mix), also falls in love with the former. Heng goes through a rollercoaster of emotions as the two men fight for his love.

The trailer for Ossan’s Love Thailand introduces viewers to the “lousy” personal and professional life of Heng. While being stuck in an elevator, Heng stumbles and ends up seeing a photo of himself on Kongdech’s phone. A flustered Heng confides in his roommate, Mo, about his boss liking him. However, the latter, too, confesses his love to the former. Caught up in a love triangle, Kongdech and Mo bicker about who Heng would choose.

The trailer continues with Heng announcing to his colleagues that he and Mo are dating. Meanwhile, Kongdech proposes to Heng and asks him to marry him. Furthermore, Heng is seen walking down the aisle as he joins Kongdech on their wedding day. However, Heng’s “happy ending” is interrupted as Mo runs over and declares, “Heng belongs with me.” In this sweet war of love, who will win Heng’s heart? Fans can’t wait to find out!

‘Boys’ Love series has given Thai film production a new lease of life’

The popularity of the “Boys’ Love” series has spurred rapid growth in Thailand's film production industry, the Department of Business Development has revealed.

 

The film production industry is a standout sector experiencing significant growth and increase in revenue. In the first four months of 2024 (January-April), 56 film production businesses were registered as legal entities, a 12% increase over the same period in 2023, the department said. 

Their total registered capital was 195.18 million baht, up 146.44% over the same period in 2023. In 2023, there were 137 businesses with a registered capital of 258 million baht, a 20% increase from 2022.

In 2022, the total revenue of the film production industry was 12.895 billion baht, with a trend of continuous growth, the department said. 

This growth no doubt rides on Thailand’s economic recovery but is also due to the industry adapting itself to consumer behaviour and the context of Thai society, which is increasingly open to gender diversity, the department said.

A major contributor to the development of this industry is the popularity of the Boys’ Love series, which portrays relationships without gender limitations and openly presents various forms of love. This content has gained popularity among consumers both domestically and internationally.

I think we had so much more time to watch BL series during Covid. Now time is limited, at least my time.

I still watch some series from time to time. If a series is available, I watch it on Youtube.

I watched Cherry Magic on Dramacool (recommended by Foolish); I didn't particularly like it, too perfect, too innocent. I am also not really a fan of remakes, even though I didn't see the original.

Currently I am a bit a fan of Gemini + Forth and therefore watching "My Love Mixup" which is still airing.

On my last Bangkok holiday I saw them by chance in Central World, they certainly have their school girl audience, but I thought the on-screen-chemistry is better.

Too bad u don't like it. The innocence is part of the charm to me apart from my ultimate bias Tay tawan 🥰 Too many Thai BL focused on the sex scenes and I do get a bit turned off after a while 😅

Gem and 4th are big cuties. I'm waiting for love mix up to finish airing so I can binge 🤭

There is a new series, Century of Love, which is really great!

100 years ago San loved Wat, a woman who didnt want to marry the husband chosen for her and got shot dead. San was desperate and with the help of a spell he extended his life for 100 years to find Wats reincarnation.

Now, in 2024, it turns out that most likely Wats reincarnation is a guy, Vee, something that old fashioned San (so far) can't accept.

The spell is based on a magic stone, and of course some sinister people (and some not so sinister) are after the stone.

I binge watched the available episodes (4 of 10). It has a lot of action and is also quite funny. It reminds me somewhat of KinnPorsche and it is at the same level.

This is a new version of the classic story, the third version, this time from Thailand, so hopefully it won't be aborted or censored.
If you're wondering where you've seen the lead actor before, it's "Pete" from the original "Love Sick 1 & 2".
English subtitles have been added by the producers, and are provided here embedded in the .mkv file.

This is an Introductory Episode for the series, a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Addicted Heroin from inception to casting to production.
It runs almost 57 and a quarter minutes.

PLOT: Hero, the general's son, had run away from home because his father was about to remarry and take in his stepson to live with them in the house. He then met Pop, a poor boy and classmate at school, and Hero pretended to be poor in order to get close to Pop.
But then, he found out that Pop was his stepmother's son. Problems lined up to get in their way, and both must use love to overcome class barriers and obstacles from those around them. Finally, both of them learned that teenage love is as addictive as heroin. They become addicted to each other without class and all conditions.

PLOT: Phun has a girlfriend, but his father wants him to date his friend's daughter. Phun's little sister Paeng is obsessed with boys' love. Phun needs to convince Paeng that he has a boyfriend so that she can help talk their father out of the idea of dating his friend's daughter. So, Phun asks Noh to become his fake boyfriend in exchange for helping Noh raise funds for the Music Club. However, the fake relationship of these two seventeen-year-olds soon begins to trigger real feelings.

This series will have 15 episodes, and is released quite late on Sunday Nights. The episode only had awful Google word-by-word translated titles at first.
The proper English subtitles were not added until today, so if the same happens next week, I'll just wait until Monday afternoons to post the show.

The 29th  Book Expo Thailand 2024 opened last Thursday (October 10) to a sizeable crowd and will continue until October 20, offering bookworms 10 days of literary delight.

This year’s fair adopts the theme “Reading into the Afterlife” and features the legendary ghost "Krasue" as the symbol of reading, with its glowing internal light representing the ability to read books. Knowledge is compared to this guiding light, illuminating paths for people.

The fair saw a bustling crowd over the weekend, with people packing the subway to reach the venue. Once inside the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, groups of young readers could be seen shopping for books. Every aisle at the fair, filled with publishing houses and bookstores, was crowded. Interestingly, many of the visitors were young, partly because of the mid-term school holiday, with all eager to snap up works by their favourite authors.

Suwit Rungwatanapaiboon, president of the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT), told the media that the book industry grew by 5-10% in the first nine months of the year. While the number may seem small, it doesn't yet include online sales.

The most popular genres among readers are:

Novels – leading at 45%
Manga and Japanese teen light novels – 27%
Self-help and healing books – 17%
Exam preparation guides – 9%
General books – 2%

In the novels category, BL (Boys’ Love) novels featuring same-gender relationships, particularly male-male love stories,are enjoying a strong presence. Each booth from various publishers offers a wide range of BL novels, with elaborate displays and attractive protagonists that draw readers in. Both Thai and international fans can't resist taking photos at the beautifully decorated booths.

he fair also sees a strong presence of bespectacled young male readers, similar to previous years. These fans flock to booths featuring manga and light novels, not only to buy books but also to support non-book items like figures and other premium goods.

The association expects around 1.6 million attendees this year, up from 1.3 million previously, with sales expected to reach 460-480 million baht, surpassing last year’s 400 million baht. The overall book industry in 2024 is projected to be valued at 16 billion baht.
