For sure I’m one of them...but my chips are on a different model not Babe and Nicky. Nice to hear there is a model who delivers a great off.

While it's  definitely very generous tip and well above the market those guys know much , much better than us how much they can command when they are in their prime.

I had cases, some even reported in my reports already,  when guys rejected or relented on very generous offers. I liked one particularly blunt explanation ' I don't want long time, I want to sleep because I have off almost every night".

market economy , among other things, means that some consumers , no matter how well of  may still be priced out of certain market segments.

But for those who feel some  guys are out of their reach I have two  consolations - low season makes them more accommodating and with time even best are losing their luster, if only because novelty value wears off even if they look as fabulous as always. After all one can off A, B , C or D may times but only once for  a first time.

Although 5k seems like a lot in the overall scheme of things in a Bangkok environment (and it is), in three recent posts by veteran trip reporters none expressed dissatisfaction or disappointment with their decision to go ahead with the off.

To put it in perspective, consider the cost of a going to a club and paying 700 for drinks, 200 in tips for staff, 500 for off and 2,000 for the guy who proves to be a dud. That 3,400 and you close the door to your hotel and you're dissatisfied with the experience.

All of a sudden the high-end off doesn't look so pricey.

Hahaha. Well, just like I won't see Hamilton the Musical every day till the end of my life, I cannot off him everyday LOL. As much as I enjoyed his company, like the musical, and raved about it afterwards, there are other musicals, and models, and boys out there. Not to mention $200 is a lot of money.

Offing a boy, and getting quoted a certain price, and getting a specific service, depends on a lot of things, for everything to go well. I was really pissed off by my non functioning off MoonBoy and I made it known to the mamasan. I also told the mamasan that I won't bother offing anyone in Moonlight, and this model, if I get the same service. So mamasan made sure the model I took would at least make an effort. Looks like it worked, for the most part. Mamasans are there for a reason.

Mamasans in the past have gotten me out of sticky situations as well. Of course you would have to tip them because they also give a service. Though they are not absolutely needed, I feel mamasans are an integral part of my Thailand experience, precisely because the language barrier, although porous, still exists in Thailand. Although some of the boys speak english well, and you can communicate your desires to them before offing, some of them aren't as fluent. This is why I bothered to be fluent in Portuguese. Though not the only reason to speak Portuguese, I feel communicating with Brazilian boys (and Brazilian friends, and strangers etc) in their native language may often lead to way better experiences. 

For @vinapu, there was one time a boy, who was gorgeous and I liked very much, told me he could not long time with me, I offed him in ST anyway, got to know him, gotten his Line and then worked my way to a long time later in the trip. Sometimes they just could not do it that night, or needed to be comfortable with you, before committing to LT.

I'd rather pay 5000 baht for a satisfying off, than 2000 baht for a dead fish. In this circumstance, for me, the 2000 was more pricey than the 5000, because I did not get value for my money in the 2000.

Day 3.3: The Soi 4 Special

This was the last stretch. My last night before I disappear for another year. Today, I’ve been going at it for about 10 hours now, so why stop now? I knew I needed to eat since I haven’t eaten anything since the afternoon, but I had a last minute invite by a friend to come over for drinks at Balcony Pub. So after squaring it with the mamasan at Moonlight and giving him the 1000 baht off fee and his own tip (and giving him a thumbs up in regards to Mr. Moonlight), I made my way to Soi 4 for some pre-boy bar drinks.

I’ve always like Soi 4. It has that nice German Restaurant G’s with the affable owner. There are a bunch of beer bars that one can wile away the hours ordering drinks and hanging out, and of course, my previously favorite boy bar. The newer bar (to me) Banana bar was an interesting addition. I get to Balcony Bar to meet with my friend and his friends, fellow Americans, and we just shot the shit. I ordered my usual Espresso Martini, my welcome-to-the-night drink that always woke me up and always gave me a reminder of Bangkok Night’s past that indeed, the night has started. From their website, cocktails are 195 baht:

After another espresso martini, and sips of the beers my friend, and newfound friends, had, I had to excuse myself. They wanted to have dinner and then swing by DJ Station, and some of the guys in the party were excited to go for the first time. If this was a typical Bangkok trip I would jump at a chance to go with them (and Old Friend from Hot Male beer bar wanted to go too), but this was my last night, and I wanted to check out some of the other gogo bars I had in my list. So I went to the next logical place, on the same Soi – Jupiter 2018.

For a period in 2017 and 2018, Jupiter was my favorite gogo boy bar, both in the old place where Moonlight is now, and its new iteration in Soi 4. Some history:

But of course for the seasoned sex tourist or expat, Jupiter’s boys are a huge disappointment. And the disappointment starts at the very beginning of the experience. If the general Rule #1 of Offing Boys is to only off the boy that shows interest and smiles at you, this rule falls apart in Jupiter. By decree from the owners this bar forbids the boys to even acknowledge the presence of the audience, let alone to smile at anyone. They are just supposed to stand there, to be admired. This in itself is a huge turn-off to most punters.

And my best ever off in my short 17 trips here was from Jupiter, the old place. MonBoy remains the gold standard in Thailand offs for me, so I’ve always had a soft spot for Jupiter.

I get to the premises at 9:45 PM, and 500 baht later, got my usual perch in the center, at the end of the catwalk. Looks like what it was when I last checked this place out last year. I get my drink and check out the boys. They were in more modest wear than in other gogo bars, some of them had tank tops, some of them in pants, some of them in shorts. Some of them were shirtless, and there was a total of two that were both in shorts and were shirtless. One was a regular of Jupiter who I recognized from before, a hot Thai guy who danced really well. 

And the other one I also recognized, he is this Vietnamese guy who paulsf referred to me through Line. He was super gorgeous. Very handsome and had a lean muscular body with very smooth and fair Vietnamese skin. He was perfect for me, and if he wanted to, belonged as a model at Moonlight as well, but obviously he was one of the stars in Jupiter. Last year he worked in Screw Boy, I guess now he graduated to Jupiter.

My usual mamasan was there. He recognized me instantly, and asked me all sorts of questions about why I have not been back. Always great banter with him. He has helped me with managing Mon Boy before, as well as other really good offs. He immediately refers the Vietnamese hottie for me. I told him no, it was not going to work. Because in the past, I already asked Viet boy about what he did in bed on his Line and this was his reply:

Mamasan quickly went to Viet Boy to ask him about his Line messages to me. After a few minutes mamasan went back, and told me that yes, unfortunately, that the boy didn’t kiss, suck, or bottom. I am so over dead fishes, so no matter how gorgeous a guy is, I needed the action, so i'd rather not off them and waste each others' time. The mamasan then told me that “Everyone here is man. Cannot do a lot. But very good looking.” I guess the days of Jupiter having MonBoys, who did everything and brought you to the moon and back, are no more. That was a huge turn off for me. Why was I even in this bar. I tried to look at the boys with a fresh eye, but after Sunlight and Moonlight today, everyone else in the bar looked second fiddle.

There was one guy though, a late-comer, who barreled through everyone and joined the others onstage. It was Mekhin, the legendary once-Tawan star, now Jupiter star. Now this just got interesting. I remember this flyer with him as the ideal Tawan guy:

Jupiter, and then Moonlight, has usurped Tawan in this muscular guy space, but Mekhin’s legend has resumed in Jupiter. I must admit, the combination of Tawan and Mekhin existing were the primary reasons why I made the leap to visit Bangkok for the gogo bars for the first time in 2014. So Mekhin has always held a good place in my heart. And I am sure everyone has seen his various risqué photoshoots and videos (Japanese). A sample:

Now maybe I’ve been blinded by the fat 8 plus plus inchers that exist in Brazil, but I’ve never thought Mekhin had that big of a cock, but still, he has the charisma and swagger that made me want to meet him. And he was here now so maybe I’ll have my chance.

Mekhin was shirtless, and he was not as cut and lean as he was before. A more recent photo of him from his Facebook:

He was standing there, scanning the audience. I tried to catch his attention to no avail. I didn’t want the mamasan to get him for me yet, I wanted to see how he did onstage and to watch him more. I must admit I wasn’t sold yet. While this was happening, a bunch of people came in to see the show. There were a bunch of white guys who sat next to the stage, and 2 chinese women and a guy who sat close to Mekhin. They immediately ordered a bottle of whiskey and some cokes. 

At this point most of the guys onstage were eyeing the Chinese girls, and Mekhin was intently looking as well. He was circling them and then sat behind them. After a while, he asked for a glass, and then the guy pored him a drink. After a while, he was invited to their party, sitting in the middle of the two Chinese girls.

And I guess that was that. I am guessing Mekhin prefers to drink the night away, instead of standing around and hoping for people to notice him. Apart from the Viet guy, Mekhin was the one I wanted in Jupiter. If I was going to hire a dead fish, it should be Mekhin’s caliber. 

It was 10:30, and the show was about to start. I had to make a decision really quick. Looks like my choices in this bar were either a dead fish or a drunk fish, and the others were uninspiring choices, so why would I stay for the show? I decided to leave, and bid the mamasan goodbye from across the bar. He runs to me and asks me why was I leaving. I told him I did not find anyone to off. He said to come back tomorrow, and he promised there was going to be some boys who would be more my taste. I thanked him for his help and left the premises.

That was disappointing. I need to salvage the night. I make my way back to Patpong 2 and try to find more prince charmings to kiss.

As numazu is being coy I will share my little observation...if you noticed, he actually teased us a little by revealing the photo of his off shared by mamasan was a magazine cover shoot. 

Now while most of the Moonlight models are regularly photographed by the bar, only 3 are sought after for “professional” publications. Babe, Nut and to a lesser degree Nest. 

Of course only numazu will truly know if this is on the money or I am still fishing in the dark...

Jupiter seems like a bar hiring straight boys who are looking for female east Asian clients rather then gay falangs , Don't see any point to pay a visit there on my upcoming trip.

Day 3.6: Bar Crawl

Last look back at Soi 4 on my way out. The night is still young:

 

I decided to go back to the safety of the confines of Patpong 2. I was coming from the Silom side, instead of the Surawong side, so inevitably I went by the girlie bars, which was a reminder that we were not alone in the Soi:

I got to the Soi at 10:40, plenty of time to take in the show at Dream Boy, but @anddy reminded me yesterday that the show at DreamBoys has become more slapstick more than ever, with even more drag queens screaming, and the shows less sexy. It does seem like the previous DreamBoys I know, so instead of going into the bar now, I decided to hang out with Old Friend at Hot Male beer bar. He is always good company, and after two rum and cokes, and a healthy amount of gossip about the Soi and its inhabitants, I was ready to go in DreamBoys. I am guessing at 11:15 the show would have died down by now.

My take on Dream Boy:

I get to the bar and lo and behold, my usual mamasan was there. Different Soi and different spot and yet the mamasans and boys remain the same. I get my usual drink and take in the show. Yup, it is still some drag queen slap stick happening on the stage. I thought I was able to avoid all this by arriving late, but lo and behold they are still here.

After the usual slapstick was a fuck show. I was expecting a good old Bangkok fuck show but instead I got was another slapstick effort. There was on bottom and 3 “tops” I guess. The bottom was just one of the drag queens, now shirtless and pantsless and in just underwear. Not sexy. A fuck show is supposed to be sexy right? Not this one. The party went around to ask for tips. No tips from me. The saving grace is still the Dream Boy star doing a sexy show. Even though i'ts a sexy dance I've seen before, his star still shines brightly, and with a little bit more muscle mass, he can even outshine most of the models in Moonlight. Very handsome, very charismatic. I often wondered if he can be offed.

I scan through the crowd, probably about 85% Asians and 100% men tonight. Lots of solo punters. The seating is better than old Dream Boy, but the stage is worse, because of the big column right smack dab in the middle of the stage, obscuring a lot of the action at times, if the action is not in front of the column. @reader warned me about this, I just didn’t know it was this bad. Its worse when you are closer to the stage, as you have huge blind spots. See for yourself:

After the show, about 50% of the audience left, some with boys in tow.  The remaining boys went out to the stage to try to entice the punters. My mamasan was trying to get me to pick certain boys, knowing what I liked, but they weren’t clicking for me. Maybe I was too late, and most of the good boys have been taken by the punters who left. Obviously, this place is still a fairly popular venue. I may have just missed all the good stuff. I will have to just go back here another time to take advantage of the whole bar.

So I bid farewell to the mamasan and tell him that I will just have to come back next time. He was disappointed but quickly lightened up with his 100 baht tip. I mean, he held my hand the whole time I was there (strange) and stayed with me and kept me entertained. I leave and got back on the Soi to weigh my options. Old Friend waves from his perch up at Hot Male and asks me “Where your boy?” I go back up the bar and tell him I didn’t off anyone because all the good ones were taken. I decide to stay with him and have another drink and talk to Old Friend for a while. 

Hot Male bar is really a good spot for people watching. I see a steady stream of customers and boys coming out of Lucky Boy. Maybe I should my luck again at that bar, to see if I can scrounge up a one for the road off. I felt bad for leaving Old Friend behind, especially since he wanted to go to DJ Station. I told him I don’t have a lot of time left, because I needed to leave for the airport at 5 AM, which is 4 and a half hours from now. I literally have that time left this day. And I haven’t packed yet.

I go to Lucky Boys and luckily I was seated in the center again, with full view of the stage. They were just starting their late show. Which was like this:

I must say that I am impressed with their show. Even with the drag queens, I think the combination of the large stage, the good acoustics, and the overall quality and effort of the performers, made the whole show widly more entertaining than I expected. @paulsf has likened it to a Las Vegas show, and I can see why. Lots of sequins, good production values, and fairly entertaining waiters and boys made it a great atmosphere. I sat back and enjoyed the show. 

At the corner of my eyes, I saw a few boys who were still in their underwear. Two stood out. Two twinks, looked young and fair-skinned. One had an arm around another, and they were smiling and laughing at the show onstage. They are not the ones pictured here, but they almost looked like this, they were so cute:

I wave at them. The taller one waved back. I point at them. He points at himself. I continue pointing. He points at his friend. I form my fingers into a “V” - both of you please. The other one points at himself, and then both at him and his friend. I give a thumbs up. The two nod and wai to me. They sit next to me, one on both sides. They both take my hand closest to me and hold tight. Best game of charades ever in my life - because I win two boys!

One of the mamasans asks if the two were to get drinks. I say yes. I admired both with equal measure. The two really looked like twins from afar, but up close I can see the differences. One had white porcelain skin, very smooth, and very pretty. 21, Myanmar, and fairly bubbly and smiled a lot. The other one, fair but a little bit of darker tone, also very smooth. 22, Cambodian, and a very sweet smile. More reserved than his friend, but was not shy with showing hugs, kisses and affection. 

So they were obviously friends, but would they want to get on a threesome with me? I ask the Cambodian, who was better in English than Myanmar. They talk it out, in Thai, on opposite ends of me, while still holding both my hands. After a few minutes, Myanmar boy kisses me on the cheek, “OK can.” He says. They both laugh. Myanmar boy takes my rum and gives me a drink. I had both hands occupied; it was thoughtful of Myanmar boy to do that. He does this the whole night.

As much as I preferred sight of both in their underwear, as well as getting to feel their bodies next to mine, I tell them to put on clothes so we can continue the off. A couple of wais later, and telling the mamasan that, indeed, I will off two boys, they were off. The excellent show onstage continues, and actually more customers stream in. This bar is getting a lot of traffic.  I'm glad. This is good for the bar, and good for the Soi. Maybe this was a good move after all.

While I was waiting, I see three more twinks to my right, trying to make googly eyes at me. All looked very yummy. Should I off three more? I entertained the idea for a split second before telling my brain no. I didn’t have much time in Bangkok so I should be sensible. Two is enough. Maybe a 5 boy off would be something I could do down the road. I have to admit that this bar has exceeded my expectations. They boys are yummy, the show is excellent, and the whole bar had a great ambience. Definitely a repeat next time I find myself here.

The two boys come back and resume their perch on opposite sides of me. The show ends, I settle my bill (my drink, two boy drinks, two off fees, and a mamasan tip).
