Infamous underage bar in Sunee closed for good!!!

Let me tell you, rumor has it that the Clubber bar had bought the Diamond bar (formerly know as Amigo bar) and has plans to open a hotel. Diamond bar was shut down in a police raid a few weeks back and has been closed ever since. Clubber employees have been seen cleaning out the many tables and chairs as well as some of the rooms upstairs. Do you think a hotel in this location will be profitable?

Hate to see another bar close down. Yes I know the reputation wasn't the best but still I had some good times there and sitting with friends at the outdoor bar watching the foot traffic. The only danger with one business buying up everything is that should they go under then there's nothing but empty spaces all over. In this case clubber has bought both sides of that corner and while I wish them much success, it seems they may be expanding to fast. Given the political turmoil and the shorter high season one has to wonder if this is a smart move.

I think these people know what they're doing. First, the Clubber restaurant is just excellent and the prices are quite inexpensive. As people, including locals, discover the restaurant their business will probably be booming even in the lowest part of low season.

The hotel, I think, is an excellent idea. Based on what I am hearing, they are spending a great deal of money to gut the entire building and put in quite a nice place to stay. There are moves afoot, from what I have been hearing lately, to clean up Sunee Plaza. It is my understanding that several legitimate business owners in Sunee Plaza have approached the authorities, and are getting cooperation, to take steps to keep boys under age 16 out of Sunee Plaza entirely. I questioned why under 16 instead of under 18. I was told that, legally, there is no basis to keep anyone who is 16 years old, or older, from entering Sunee Plaza during business hours.

In any case, if the hotel or guesthouse or whatever it is, turns out to be as good as the restaurant, then it will be a wonderful place to stay, right in the heart of the Sunee Plaza action, and most likely at very reasonable prices.

Especially if there really will be a serious move to clean up Sunee Plaza as much as possible, then I think both the restaurant and hotel are likely to be great successes and will also serve to bring a much better reputation to Sunee Plaza, and that will benefit all the businesses in that area.

Shades of Don Quixote - someone else tilting at windmills

I can't see the connection between the success of the restaurant/hotel and the reputation of Sunee Plaza.

The restaurant/hotel will live or die by it's own reputation and standards of service.

The reputation of the establishment will have no effect on the reputation of the area, or vice versa.

Neither can I. Maybe my post wasn't clear. A "clean up" of Sunee Plaza has nothing to do with the restaurant/hotel. If it comes, it is because a number of businesses have jointly requested the authorities to do something about it and, again based only on what I've heard, the authorities have agreed and intend to post officers in the area to do it.

Well thats one way to chase customers out of an area, post police to monitor activites and place everyone under scrutiny. Even if one is just sitting and having a drink it is still not an enjoyable if one is being watched.

First, I don't know for sure this is going to happen at all. As I said, this is only what I have heard. Since, assuming this is true, the idea was set into motion by business owners, then it stands to reason they are planning ways to do this so that customers will not feel uncomfortable. Before condemning the idea, I'd say that it makes the most sense to first wait until we know for sure whether it's true and second to wait to see what will be done and how it will be done.

Many would agree that something ought to be done to clean things up and if that drives away customers who are also pedophiles, I'm all for it.

Now can we know who your sources are because when I said this I got so much flack for it, I have been coming to Thailand since 1976 and in the last 10 years I have heard that the police are going to crack down on underage children roaming around this area, so much so once when I was at a top level function sitting next to me was the last Mayor on one side of me, and the Owner of the Royal Cliff Hotel (she was very Vocal about this very subject), on the other side of me

So who ever your high powered inside informants are you should go back and tell them its not going to happen.

Can you know who my sources are? No, you can't.

"High powered inside informants"? I don't recall claiming that I have any such informants. However, since you have a highly developed spy network and are also on intimate terms with the Mayor of Pattaya, then I'm sure your information is accurate, as always. Since you are not here, then you can get one of them to go back to tell them it's not going to happen. I won't because I don't care whether they think it's going to happen or not. I hope it does happen, but that remains to be seen.

In fact, I doubt GB is even invited to many top level functions. Of course I suppose one could go without an invitation.

That is true. This evening Thaksin will get four minutes on CNN, as reported in THE NATION:

_____

Ousted Prime Minister Gives Live Interview to CNN

Deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will give live interview to CNN from Singapore tonight at 7pm.

Thaksin will be interviewed for four minutes on the CNN's World Business Programme.

It will be the first time that Thaksin speaks publicly to the media since his ouster.

I even hear that Im already missed on Fart-stop now they are down to 6 or 12 viewing at any one time, when I was having my disputes with Hedda and Co there was 30 or 60 viewing at any one time.

With you and Pearl the Ghost banned on Bahtstop, I guess we all can see now who was working their mouse to run up the totals on some threads. I hope your index finger feels better now with the rest. Make sure it doesn't get frostbitten there in the frozen north.

If you're going to quote me, then use the full context of the quote instead of paring it down to suit your own purposes. What I wrote was, "It is my understanding that several legitimate business owners in Sunee Plaza have approached the authorities, and are getting cooperation, to take steps to keep boys under age 16 out of Sunee Plaza entirely."

While all these business owners are sending you E-mail, my information comes from someone who told me about it. I then confirmed what I heard with two Sunee Plaza business owners.

You also included in your post two additional paragraphs that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. That, my friend, is the last time we're going to have that here. Do it even once more on this or any other thread and you'll be placed on moderated mode. You stand warned.

If I am not mistaking there are quite a few families that live in the Sunee area and a few more that own business where the familes also work . How can one keep the familes out if they live there and need to go back and forth about their daily business? Keeping anyone under 16 out is just not feasible. And again I take exception to being under scruitny of police or anyone else if I am just there for a night out. Its like saying you are a pedophile until you are proven not to be and they will treat everyone like they are or has the potential to be one. I for one avoided the area when the cameras were said to have been there until they were proven not to have been there. Not because I am afraid I was doing something wrong. I just didn;t want to appear on CNN and have my pic showing up at home.

Who knows? Maybe nothing can be done. Maybe passes will be issued. Maybe there will be curfews. I have no idea how it can be done. All I know is what I've heard. If it goes the way most things happen around here, it will end up being all talk and no action anyway.

Or, as seems usual with these so-called clampdowns - a five day wonder !
