Guest ear wig
A good friend of mine was told after taking a TFLE Course he can have a good life at one of the schools he was assigned to after only 2 weeks but completing the 6 week course at the school. Even though to start with it was quite stressful as it would be if you have to change direction at 50 years old, but because he was at one of the best schools around bangkok where they children and the other teaching staff are very respectful he is enjoying the job very much now even though it is low wages he has his room food and transport with a small medical Insurance thrown in. so he can live OK on the money but nothing extravagant as you can imagine. The only thing they dont do is pay or get you a work permit, so he had to pay to go back to UK Great Briton Thai Embassy there to get a 'work permit', he thought he would have no problem because the School one of the most respected in Thailand, gave him a letter to say he has a job for the next year. But the Embassy told him as from last wednesday they need to see a letter from the Police confirming he has not go a police record, also they need to see originals of a degree and also TFLE or similar teaching certificates, fortunatly he was able to convince them he had the right documentation, but if you go all the way there as you have to now go to your home country be careful. So if you are thinking of either renewing your Work Visa or applying for one at all you now know the latest minimum you will need to bring, I think the US Embassy has a reciprocal deal with Thailand to accept a letter from there Embassy. BE WARNED.

Guest luvthai
It is time they put qualified teachers in the classrooms. Attending a 6 week course doesn't qualify one to teach or work with children. On the flip side tho, how are they going to attract real teachers on what they pay there? You are answered the question yourself. Have you ever met a Thai English teacher than can actually speak English?

Guest thrillbill8
FYI Most reputable international schools (those that are accredited from England or the States) around the world will ask for a police statement from ones home record. This makes perfect sense to me ...who should be afraid of such a request if you are in any profession?
