My usual issue with screwboys is the smoke, not the boys nor the mamasan There's often more than 20/25 guys in Screwboys, at the busy weekends I've seen that stage heaving (literally) plus with boys sat on the lower stools also....last Christmas easily 35-40 which in a small bar like that is quite a sight! zoomy02 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Screwboys is possibly my favourite bar as I can get close to the men. I tend to give 100 bt to some of them rather than buying them drinks. Quote
DrimVoiz Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 ...and the boys also come close 2 customers, as I seen, which is a plus!!! vinapu 1 Quote
Popular Post DivineMadman Posted October 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 8, 2019 I think most of the guys value the commissions they get on the drinks. Bars make their money on the drinks, so selling the drinks is an important part the guys' job. As far as the bar/mamasan/manager is concerned, if a customer is with a guy for more the a few minutes he (the customer) should buy a drink. As a pure thought experiment: if you think of the bar guys' time as the bar's inventory, if a customer is sitting with someone without paying the bar, the customer is stealing inventory. As Vinapu pointed out, some bars may have quotas and they certainly keep track of how many drinks someone sells. I know of one regular customer of a bar who tried to make a habit of tipping directly instead of buying drinks, and when the "boss lady" figured it out she stopped that and stopped letting guys sit with the customer unless he bought a drink. I know there are some people who like to call a guy over to evaluate a potential off without buying a drink, and that's fine, but I think the amount of time should be reasonable. Jus to be clear, buying the drink is what the bar gets paid for providing the companionship. Your companion also gets tipped. And having said all that, no one should ever buy a drink he (and/or nowadays she) doesn't want to. Just be aware that the bar can remove the guy sitting with you and send him back to "work" and if it becomes a habit with a particular guy he might earn the disapproval of the mamasan. Boy69 Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 If someone call a guy over just to evaluate a potential off for very short time without buying a drink it's acceptable but if a boy sit with you more than couple of minutes you are obligated to buy a drink to the boy and give him a tip for his time. I do to but following that rule may have unintended results. Last night one of my regulars approached me in the bar but since I did not plan to off him I did not want to hold him with me either and it looks he was clearly unhappy. So it looks however one turns, ass is always behind. lotus123 1 Quote
zoomy02 Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Maybe not your regular, but I suspect some young men have polished their drama abilities. Some workers in that soi deserve a phd in manipulating soft hearted farang, including me. Patanawet and Boy69 2 Quote

Same as that...if I call him over and sat for any time Drink+Tip (if not offing him) Drink+Off/Tip(if offing him) But bear in mind not all bars have same layout...in Screwboys there are 2 areas that the boys hang-out in IF they're not full of customers so if your in their space effectively sometimes you'll find more just plonk themselves down near you chatting to your chosen boy and you...its friendly like that. Then it gets more grey...but typically if another boy is chatting to me and my boy and we're just laughing / messing around i'll make sure the 2nd or poss 3rd / 4th boys get 100 bhat Tips when I leave, sometimes might buy more boy drinks. Just depends on how fun things are. Its just a judgement call and being fair minded...the mamas will not hasstle you or the 2nd, 3rd/4th boy if its one of the areas they hangout in and you have a boy with drink already. splinter1949 1 Quote

I've said it before and probably will again "ask the boy if he'd prefer a tip or a watered down drink" (for which he will get twenty Baht commission). He may be struggling to pay his rent or food and a diluted whisky and coke won't help with that. Quote
zoomy02 Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 I try to be generous with 100 bt tips. But I asked a man who works there how much the drink tip is and he replied 70bt, which surprised me. I will ask someone else who works there to check. Quote

This is not the point the bar will not aloud the boy to sit with you long time without buying him a drink they make profit from drinks and offs only.what you are tipping the boy is between you and him the bar had no concern on this. vinapu and Wynter11 2 Quote

zoomy02 Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I'm pleased if it's as high as 70 bt. When I've asked in other bars the drink tip has been lower than that. Quote

vinapu Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 In @ home bar in Jomtien Complex , my drink was 100 and boy's 140 , no prizes for guessing how much boy's commission was Quote
TotallyOz Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 If I have a boy sit with me, I always offer a drink. If I like what I hear, I know within 10 minutes and if they are not going home with me, I give them a nice tip and wish them good night. If I do like them, I may take them off. However, someone sits with me without being invited by ME, then I am under no obligation to buy a drink or tip (up to me) but most of the time I also just say, sorry, no and look away. I am often pretty clear. DivineMadman, reader, alex303 and 1 other 4 Quote

The waiter went to get the drink anyway, so I put the exact cash for my drink in the check bin and handed it to another waiter on the way out. Quote
zoomy02 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Screwboys has been short of customers recently but started to perk up. Numbers 42, 19 and 25 are some of my favourites and all those are good at taking taking care. Some men in some bars could with a training course in service provision. Like don't use the phone in bed and don't make up excuses to leave early. Maybe I'm not handsome enough for them? splinter1949 and vinapu 2 Quote
