hank75 Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 I haven’t been to Bangkok for Songkran and am curious what it’s like. Is anyone there this week and able to report? Especially around the Silom area. With some inconvenience I may be able to switch my overnight transit stop on 16 April to Bangkok. Is it still worthwhile and will festivities still be ongoing at night in the bars? Quote

Londoner Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 Many will tell you that Songkran is a time to avoid in tourist areas. My boyfriend's experience in the northern countryside is very different....washing Buddha images, visiting grandparents and parents to pay respect with a sprinkling of water. My experience, a week before Songkran when I was in Pattaya, was receiving a bucket- full of icy water in the face while travelling at 30+ mph on the Jomtien road. Accordingly, Songkran joins New Year as the only times of the year when I'm happy not to be in Thailand! Will7272, hank75 and kokopelli 2 1 Quote
ChristianPFC Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Have you experienced Songkran before? I have, and now leave Thailand every year for Songkran. There might all kinds of inconveniences, like traffic jams and fully booked hotels. Quote
DivineMadman Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I enjoy Songkran in Bangkok. Lot's of fun. It's ok that it's not for everyone. Quote
