Guest Pearl69er Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 A piece to be published in tomorrow's Australian Sun Herald newspaper tells of how that countries only openly gay High Court Judge (their highest court in the land) Justice Michael Kirby has become victim of a fraudulent MySpace article which claims to be an advert for him and "contains sordid and sexually charged material". Justice Kirby has been a constant target for attack by right wing conservatives after he quietly outed himself in his Who's Who entry a few years ago by naming his male partner of 40 years-a Dutch born newsagent. He was once named in Parliament as a frequent user of government supplied chauffered cars and accused of trawling Sydney's infamous Wall for rent boys in a sordid attempt to remove the mainly leftish judge who is regarded as one of the world's most respected jurists. This attempt failed despite silence from the Prime Minister John Howard whose homophobic sidekick Senator Bill Heffernan had launched the attack and demanded Justice Kirby step down from the bench. A sharp eyed politician spotted that documents used in the atempt to discredit the judge were forgeries and Heffernan was forced to give an unqualfied apology. The MySpace theft of Justice Kirby's identity will again ignite the subject of internet defamamation. Quote
