Guest ear wig Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I love gay Chiang Mai I had always taken my gay holidays in Thailand in Pattaya or Bangkok, or both-having limited time for simply site-seeing and wanting to take full and carnal advantage of the gorgeous gay youths available in both those places. However, I was persuaded by a friend to visit him at his home in the mountains north of Chiang Mai and, before spending a day or two with him, I decided to stay in gay town of Chiang Mai City and Quote
Guest buaseng Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Congratulations Earwig, that's the first interesting and sensible post I have seen you make. For once it was a pleasure to read one of your offerings. If you would write like that all the time, I'm sure you would not receive even a fraction of the attacks normally made on or about you. Quote

Guest buaseng Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I love gay Chiang Mai by Suzy Size http://www.stickyrice.ws/?view=ilovechm O I C ! I take it that Suzy Size is another handle for Earwig? If not, it appears he has once again been guilty of the dreaded "P" word - that should bump up the viewing totals and provide another heated debate. I must admit that the standard of composition and grammar was not what one usually expects of Earwig - hence my (misplaced?) congratulations. Quote

Guest buaseng Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 fools rush in. Perhaps if you read the second last line you can un-twist your knickers this time. Pathetic. If you consider that those three words constitute an attribution it is you who is wacko. To quote what you said in the ''Hedda NOW admitted plagiarism' thread "There is a general rule of thumb in this process-- the title of an article, the author, and 3 paragraphs followed by a link is the preferred method and is actually encouraged. This gives any reader a taster of the article and prompts them to go to the main link and read the rest of the feature-thus the original source receives those important hits for it's paid advertising." That has clearly not happened in this direct quote by Earwig of a complete article in Sticky Rice. If you are going to argue on Earwig's behalf you need at least to be consistant - you can't have it both ways! Was it you who was the fool that rushed in this time ? Quote
Smiles Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Is EarWig Suzie Size or is he/she not? Heeheeheeheehee. Another post (and now dilemna) to bump up the hits on yet another EarWig topic. Thank god the man is doing it here and not Sawatdee anymore. To be honest, if EarWig is actually Suzy, and the adventures above are actually true (EarWig always having problems with tough concepts such as "truth" etc etc), then may I admit to a confession: having EarWig/Suzy discuss "sex" in general and then elaborating on it is truly off-putting ... bordering on nauseating. Rather like Don Knotts wandering unknowingly into a full tilt S&M orgy. I can handle the plagiarism thing (I don't much give a flying f***, as it is a Hedda construct as bogus & phony as, well, "You-Know-What") . . . I can handle the constant & tedious self-promotion . . . I can guffaw at the childish & churlish shoulderblade-shivving of Niddy's Nook (amongst others) . . . I can be mildly bemused at the overwrought and breathless touting of the most mundane & hackneyed gay 'entertainments (i.e. drag shows and their ilk). But .... SEX!!? Thinking ~ and god forbid ~ reading about EarWig actually having SEX?! No no no no no no no . . . not for these eyes thank you. EarWig/Suzy honey ... stick to what you do best, i.e. bull****. We love the bull****. Cheers ... Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I don't know how long ago the writer took the trip to Chiang Mai, but I was there in November, and the Adams Apple club in closed and gone. Many of the boys and staff are working other clubs such as New Guy and the New My Way. It is still a great place for a visit. Quote
Guest Pearl69er Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 You need to take a chill pill buaseng and take more notice of what I am saying if you want to keep barking at me. I don't care which way it's done nor do I have control over how it is done. Now I don't what you think "...from sticky rice" means but to me it indicates that Earwig's piece is....from sticky rice. Only the most pedantic person would think otherwise. ******************************** Now mindful of the fearsome manner in which Rainwalker wil probably rail in at any moment and demand this thread be kept on track..far more important is that GaySacGuy has brought us the very sad news that Adam's Apple no longer exists ! Gaybutton Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Ear Wig did attribute this posting to Sticky Rice. It is, however, at the end of the article. There is nothing wrong with that, but I would prefer to see attributions at the beginning of a post. If it is from a magazine article, then it should include the title of the magazine, issue number, title of the article, and name of the author if it is given. However, this time I don't see how anyone can say that Ear Wig plagiarized. He cited his source, and that makes it ok. Personally, I would also rather read comments about the content of the article instead of even more arguing about plagiarism, Ear Wig, etc. Quote

Gaybutton Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 A link is the normally accpted way of acknowlefging the origin of the article. I too would prefer to discuss the contents, but let's get the basics right first!! That's true whenever such an article is online. I hadn't thought of that. Ok, now the basics, I believe, are covered. Are we at some point going to discuss the content of the article? Quote
Guest Pearl69er Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 There best way to solve this-as they do on many other boards- is to post clear rules about the re-production of articles from other web-sites. That way there can be no mistake. For instance on another Thai gay board a poster has used this very subject to rip into Earwig yet again ,but an examination of that member's numerous posts of articles from on-line newspapers shows he himself fails to link to one single article. Instead he says for example : "Daily Telegraph"..yet there are 3 Daily Telegraphs newspapers that I know of in 3 different countries. Unless one wanted to go on an exhaustive internet search there is no quick way of checking the accuracy of the article he has re-produced. However as this is the internet and people not normally asociated with publishing have now become "home" publishers all sorts of rules get broken. It doesn't mean people have malicious intent it just means they are not thinking of the huge costs invested in on-line newspapers to operate and the only way they can survive ( whilst sales of their print copies plummet) is by receiving advertising revenue. At the risk of again sounding pompous-when I was (briefly) involved in the Fairfax Group ( Australian publishers) and their internet plans in 1995- they spent $200M investing in their on-line newspaper. The executive who made that decision was removed ( meaning so was I along with a dozen others) as the board decided he had wasted the money. He has subsequently re-instated to the very top before being poached by UK rivals. That is why commercial on-line publications prefer a smaller amount of an article to appear with a link. But most importantly-they want that link to be there. As I (pompously) pointed out on another thread-there are moves being made as we speak to shore up the internet into a few powerful hands and the free-wheeling days of how we use the net could soon be at an end. Do not be surprised that when this happens you find you are unable to access any commercial news site without paying a subscription fee or a re-production fee. ************************************ A current controversy is also raging over this very amusing site operated by a California gay calling himself Perez Hilton : http://www.perezhilton.com/ It's an amusing site that both sends up and promotes the frothy world of mass celebrity. I love it. But the important factor is that Perez Hilton openly nicks features and photographs from websites world-wide and boasts about it. So far legal moves by some have failed to prevent him operating. There are more legal actions threatened and planned by other publishers. I belive they will eventually be successful but in the meantime, Perez Hilton ( as they do in the US) is becoming a celebrity himself and the stars love him. He is assured of success in some other way. Quote
Guest mauRICE Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 That article must be at least two years old (they did put it in the Classics section). Fan Club closed permanently a long time ago. Adam's Apple is rumoured to reopen in April under new ownership and management. The sale is still being worked out between the Lotus Group (the present owners) and the buyers. Although not mentioned in the article, Soho Bar has been sold. As I understand it, the new owner, a long-time Chiang Mai resident, will retain the current concept when he takes over on February 1. New My Way and Circle are still there. There's a 'gayish' karoeke place across the soi from Circle. Freeguy, off Chotana Road, is a newish gay showbar that has opened in the last year or so, perhaps longer. Drinks are priced at 200Bt, which makes it the most 'expensive' gay bar in Chiang Mai. I hear Coffee Boy is back in business but can't confirm - they have a long history of being on-again, off-again. Kudos is a new gay bar-cum-snooker parlour that's opened in the centre of town, opposite Somphet Market and behind Spicy Disco. Night Bazaar bars still running (both clusters; the sleazier cluster behind D2 Hotel becoming almost exclusively gay while the drama queens reign over The Peak.) The Peak is the place to meet commercial 'non-commercial boys', ie, slighly more sophisticated hangers-on on monthly retainers from overseas and local farang. It's usually the their last stop before they hit the discos to cruise other young Thai and farang guys. Quote
Guest Pearl69er Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 well at least you are on the ball mauRICE..well spotted ! I wonder if the new Adam's Apple wil be as much fun as the old one...we can only wish. Quote
Guest mauRICE Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 And for an opposing view of gay Chiang Mai from Suzy Size... http://www.stickyrice.ws/?view=ihatechm I hate gay Chiang Mai By Suzy Size (the arguably most infamous gay writer of Thailand, based in wonderful Pattaya, but knows everything about gay Chiang Mai as well) Why all this glowing praise for Chiang Mai? It is just a dull provincial town in the north of Thailand full of brash young, co-ed, hetero back-packers and too few places for a respectable gay cruiser to go. Not only is it dull it so far from the sea! Holidays, from my youth (a long time ago I Quote
