Popular Post ggobkk Posted November 30, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 30, 2018 The Sky Walk at MahaNakhom is open to the public. MahaNakhom, aka “KingPower Tower” is that building that looks like its had bits of itself bitten off. At the very top, some 78 stories above Bangkok is an open air sky deck. The views are amazing! I had the pleasure of spending two hours last night at sunset with Forum members Reader and DivineMadman. One enters at ground level though security, walks down a corridor filled with electronic images and the corridor ceiling is a three dimensional replica of central Bangkok. Up a speedy elevator that has a sound and light show to the 74th (75th?) floor. Exit to a glassed in skywalk with stupendous views. Around a corridor to another elevator (there is also a staircase) taking passengers up to the 78th floor. Exit to an open air rooftop that is just all view. There is another rise which needs to be climbed by stairs to the highest point, this area also has seating for those who’d like to just take in the vista. As day turned into night the city’s lights came on as did the lights of the traffic jams. There is also a glassed floor area that one can stand, sit,or roll around in with just the city below. I enjoyed it so much, that I brought my Vietnam friend, Van, to see it this afternoon. He was more impressed than I was... Pricing steep (pun intended). 745 baht which provided one free soft drink and100 baht off a bar drink. Waiters move around and through the crowd replenishing libations and taking money. On the way out, there are three floors of King Power Duty Free shopping to maneuver though to the exit. I’m told by a reliable source that there is a steep discount for anyone over a certain age. Not that any of us are of that age. I believe I am not easily impressed...I was impressed here and recommend it highly (pun intended, again). Tintinx, JimmyJoe, fedssocr and 6 others 9 Quote

ggobkk Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 The person who got the discount was over 70 and had to show a passport Quote

jason1975 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 I did a Google search on location. It's so near Silom! I shall visit when I am in Bangkok in two weeks time. After that, can go to Baan Tewa for massage! Quote
anddy Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 the building also does a sort of light show every night with lights in the bitten-off parts ascending or descending or flickering, and whatever else. I see it every night from my balcony lol. Not particularly impressive, but draws attention to the building, which is the purpose I suppose Quote
BiggusDikkus Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Did a hotel ever open in that buliding? Is that the skydeck with a plexiglass floor so you can look straight down — if you have the courage? Quote
vinapu Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Is that the skydeck with a plexiglass floor so you can look straight down — if you have the courage? and if you do , rest assured guy you will be with will be very impressed with you Quote
jason1975 Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 I went to MahaNakhon today on the spur of the moment after lunch at 1pm. Price is 850 baht inclusive complimentary drink. Nice view I must say. I actually looked at Google Maps and thought it was behind W Hotel. Must be the compass orientation. I didn't realise it was so near Silom Road. In fact, it's nearer to Arena than to BaanTewa. I agree I should have planned better and gone at 5pm then I would have been able to take in the sunset. After MahaNakhon, I went for massage at BaanTewa. Same high quality service from them. So a happy last day spent in Bangkok. Now go for foot massage before embarking last night of my last trip this year. ChristianPFC, paulsf, paborn and 1 other 4 Quote
vinapu Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 MahaNakhon is tallest building in Thailand. Do one really needs Google Maps to find it? It visible for as far as Bearing BTS station and Muang Boran park. Jason , did you step on that glass? fedssocr 1 Quote

Problem is that there are other tall buildings surroundinb Mahanakhon and I was at ground level and looking up. The other buildings blockdd Mahanakhon. Nope. I didn't step on glass. I'm actually terried of heights! vinapu 1 Quote
fedssocr Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Did a hotel ever open in that buliding? Is that the skydeck with a plexiglass floor so you can look straight down — if you have the courage? the hotel is still in limbo. Was going to be an Edition hotel (I think part of the Marriott umbrella) but when King Power bought the building that plan came to an end. I recently read that it will be an Orient Express hotel which is apparently a brand associated with Accor. Set to open Q4 next year http://www.ttnworldwide.com/Article/288882/Worlds-first-Orient-Express-Hotel-to-open-in-Bangkok Quote
