brall3 Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 What appears to be the most frequently used app by Thai guys to meet other people? This will be my first attempt to use an app to meet someone. Quote
DivineMadman Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Different people will invariably have different answers on this one. Here's my two cents. In Bangkok it's Hornet, Blued and Grindr. Hornet is still number one. There's some activity on the Romeo/Planet Romeo app but not as much, and most of those guys are also on the other apps. I pretty much ignore it. There's also activity on the others (Jack'd, etc.,) but not as much. If you like spending time on the apps then of course download and try them all. If you want to focus your efforts, in Bangkok it's those big three and I find Hornet more than enough. FYI - Without having done a scientific survey, I think most of the activity in Bangkok is non-commercial. So a little tact is in order or just wait for them to contact you. My only issue with Blued is a lot of contact from guys very, very, very far way. Outside Bangkok -- with the exception Pattaya -- it's the same with I think less Blued activity. (So Hornet and Grindr). In Vietnam and Cambodia and Bali, Hornet works for me. I'm sure Grindr and Blued also, just haven't tried and I'm not really a fan of Grindr anyway I don't spend enough time in Pattaya to venture an opinion. fedssocr, ct2005, ChristianPFC and 1 other 4 Quote
Guest Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 I agree a lot of activity in BKK is non-commercial. However, IF your profile includes a clear photo of a mature farang, then the ones who contact you or reply are likely to be interested & probably for money. Think of it like selling a used car. If you don't put the mileage in your advert, you will get umpteen people phoning & being put off because the mileage is too high (hoping for a 10 year old car with 50,000 miles on the clock, or some other improbable value). Put the mileage in the ad and you waste less time answering the phone. It's the same with dating apps. Although never foolproof. Quote

I think the same rules as we would expect the local guys to follow apply to us as well: Accurate recent photo (with face), accurate age, weight and height. Quote
Guest Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Also, apps like Grindr are increasingly putting restrictions on free accounts, like restricting the number of profiles you can view & the only free filter is by age. I think Hornet is similar. The subscriptions are quite significant, particularly for those of us who don't manage to find many willing lads on it when back home. For these reasons, I would always use Planet Romeo first. Loads of facilities all for free. Of course I have several apps on the phone, but I use Planet Romeo first. Quote

Of course I have several apps on the phone, but I use Planet Romeo first. I find the the new version of planet Romeo is very user unfriendly. The search function is very limited and not working well to filter what u want by just using key word. If u look at the hunz section (the tab for escort), only a few choices available there. I am not sure is my version problem but I think the old classic one is much better, sadly cannot use the classic version anymore. Quote

I have an honest profile up on Romeo, Hornet, and Blued.... honest stats, honest pic, and available upon request... "revealing" pics - both in Bangkok and Pattaya the inquiries have been so frequent that I find myself going to stealth mode from time to time because.... sometimes, less really IS more. Breaks down into - crazy persistent (almost stalker-ish) guys looking for non-commercial encounters - who I have actually blocked on Romeo - but then much to my astonishment.... they show up on the other apps confronting me! Both in Bangkok and Pattaya many many commercial guys approach me as well... I have become cautious with them because I take my massage encounters seriously - one so-so Cambodian guy did a quick rub and tug.... one horny non -commercial guy in Pattaya met me for a quick encounter.... being approached by several guys in Bangkok as I write this... So, apologies if this is "too much information" - what is the take-away? Put up an honest profile and see what happens. They ar types out there for everyone... But really do not make the mistake of spending too much time staring at the screen. There will be others when you are ready! fedssocr and DivineMadman 2 Quote

Very useful in parts of Europe. Although not in Thailand, as there are, of course, no escorts Quote
BL8gPt Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Yes the classic.planetromeo.com is still working Quote
ematt Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 I don't use the apps a lot but my experience has been Planet Romeo has more Thai guys interested in farang, while Hornet and Blued tend toward Thai for Thai. I'm talking non-commercial contacts. Quote
ggobkk Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Being of a "certain mature" age, I've found having an up to date photo and an accurate age posted on Planet Romeo brings lots of money boy attention to my Thailand. In China same is true of Blued. Quote
ay709394 Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 3 Try classic.planetromeo.com for the proper version. Although not for escorts. Thanks for the classic version link and it works. I am not aware there are two different links. In the past there was a button I can click to use the classic version and it is gone now so I thought the classic version is not available anymore. Quote
reader Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 From BBC Gay dating app Grindr is to list its shares on international stock exchanges, under a plan submitted by its Chinese parent company Kunlun Group. Kunlun Group's board said that going public would "strengthen" Grindr's competitiveness and help the business continue to develop. The Chinese tech firm originally bought a 61.5% stake in 2016 from the company's US founders. It then took full control in January. In a public filing on the Shenzhen stock exchange, Kunlun Group said that after the initial public offering (IPO) was completed, financing arrangements would be made to support Grindr's expansion. Grindr, which is based in Los Angeles, is a hugely popular dating network for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, with over 27 million users globally as of 2017. It is free to use, with optional subscription plans for additional premium features. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-45353789 Quote
PeterRS Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 As suggested earlier,, apps like Hornet severely restrict the number of profiles you can view unless you pay for the premium service. Same with Grindr. Planet Romeo gives you many more profiles and more information on each (if the member has uploaded some). I agree with the other poster above about the new version being more complicated and user unfriendly. I dislike it a lot. I found Blued popular in Bangkok and gave me hundreds of profiles all very close by. Unfortunately whatever your age you will get inundated with hits from China. But its easy to just delete these or have one reply for all. When you reply in English the app will translate it in Chinese at the other end. It also has a built in English/Thai/English translation facility. vinapu 1 Quote
