Somehow  I'm surprised at distortion photos are making to those guys and I think if I went just by photos I'd never off half of boys I see their pictures on websites and know them from more personal contact.

yeah totally agree, I also find that in probably at least 95% of the cases they look better, often MUCH better in the flesh than in pictures. No idea why, but the reason you suspect sounds very plausible

Day 2.25: Under Moonlight, Redux

 

I was lying in bed when Shan Boy opened my hotel room door with the key I gave him. He sees me and goes toward me and gives me a kiss on the lips. He then looks around the room and proceeds to tidy up. He puts all my shoes neatly by the narrow corridor to the door. He folds all my clothes just tossed around by me earlier, and places them neatly in a pile in the corner. He goes to the bathroom and arranges my toiletries and toothbrush to give a sense of order to the sink counter. He asks me if I wanted a water. I answer yes. He opens a bottle and puts it beside me on the side table.

 

I think I have stumbled on a winning formula for me in Bangkok. If the money is right, it is nice to have a steady boy with you, who isn’t fussy and high maintenance like some out there, who has an eye for your needs while staying in the city, and of course will be there for more sexy or carnal endeavors if the need arises, and is patient enough if you decide on meeting others while staying with you. Shan Boy continues to play the “butler” that I didn’t think I need this trip.

 

Shan Boy reminds me that we needed to go back to Excelsior tailors to get my first fitting for my suits. Such a good butler. We head over to Surawong to get to the tailors. They tell me everything will be ready tomorrow. I ask again if I should pay now. They tell me to pay tomorrow. Such a lax policy.

 

On the way back, I tell Shan Boy what I needed to happen tonight. I wanted to go to Moonlight early to off the Cambodian, leaving me with more options to go to other bars later tonight. Shan Boy asks me if I wanted a “3-boy night” again. I told him I was not planning to, but we can see where the night leads me. Since I’ve already seen the show in Moonlight (and even if I really want to see those sexy superstar boys again), I wanted to check out other bars this second night. Since it will be past 10 when I am done with Cambodian, I need to go to a bar that had shows late. Screw Boys comes to mind, as probably other bars that have second shows that happen after the initial main show.

 

I didn’t feel super hungry just yet but figured with the exertions I was going to do tonight  I should probably eat something. It was almost 7 PM so I decided to take Shan Boy to the Crowne Plaza lounge again for some small plate food. Since it came with the room free with the upgrade I might as well take advantage of it. The bad thing about Crowne Plaza is that it has slowly become more and more expensive to stay here every time I visit. I remember a time when a basic room cost around 2000 baht. Nowadays, you’d be hard pressed to find something less than 4000 baht in the weekends. But still, for short-timers like me, who only stay a max of one week, Crowne Plaza sure beats anything else in Silom for me.

 

We get to the lounge and see that it was more populated than usual. It is true that the hotel is fairly popular with the Japanese, and this afternoon was no exception. Most of them were just by themselves, and two had girls with them, presumably working girls, judging by their demeanor and such. Another point for the Crowne Plaza. Me and Shan Boy fit right in. We sat down and immediately got asked for our drink orders. I had a coffee and Shan Boy had a Heineken. We go to the buffet area and got ourselves some chicken skewers and sushi and pasta and bread. It was a pretty good spread for something included free in the room. Shan Boy had another beer. I had another coffee.

 

When we were finished I asked Shan Boy if we could fool around a bit before I head out to Moonlight. We get to the room and Shan Boy immediately takes off all his clothes and lays me down the bed to kiss me. He starts taking off my clothes as well and then sucks me off. I get pushed and pulled by the usual touts on the way to Freshboys but I am so used to that by now. I head in to Freshboys and hand my usual mamasan the 500 baht for the off fee, and another 50 baht, telling the mamasan to “Take care of Shan Boy tonight.” She nods and asks if I was staying for the show. I told her I was going to another bar. She frowned a little bit but recovered immediately and smiled and asked me what bar. “Moonlight,” I say. She bids me good luck as I exit the bar. Lots of cute boys in there. But my heart was elsewhere.

 

I get to Moonlight and paid my usual 300 baht drink-cover fee and head into the establishment. There were a total of 5 customers in the bar, but it was only 915 PM.  The stage had about 4 boys at a time, rotating to the beat of the music. After 5 minutes my usual captain greets me, and looks happy to see me (probably sees dollar signs).  I tell him my drink, and tell him to get a drink for him as well, since he has been so helpful earlier about the information on the superstars of the bar. He asks me about my day. I tell him the truth. He had some fairly useful information for me about my errands today.

 

All of a sudden I get accosted again. It was Mon Boy, in his Moonlight gear. He looked really happy to see me. He tells me about his zoo visit with his family today, and shows me some photos of his photogenic family. He tells me it was a shame that I could not come with them today. I was kind of regretful that I didn’t go. But I had shit to do. I ask him if he wanted a drink. He tells me to not bother and to save my money.

 

The captain then leaves his seat next to me and a handsome boy sits in his place. It was the Cambodian that was promised to me yesterday. I shake his hand. I think it is actually rare for a person to photograph well. Not that I am the most attractive person in the world, but when I see myself in photos I don't recognize me. When I look in the mirror I think "OK, that's not so bad" but in photos I look terrible.

 

It could also have something to do with the kind of lens used. Cellphone cameras aren't really made for portraiture
