spoon Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 In the hey days where no internet existed, even when internet were slow, people have no other choices other than to go to the bars for fun, both boys and their clientele. Demands are high, so supply usually follows. Nowadays, free porn are practically everywhere, all easy access and now its also easy for people to broadcast live and many ways to fulfill one fantasy. Even if u rather want physical fun, all can be arranged within few clicks of buttons. So people who stll goes to the bars are now expecting to see somethings beyond what they can get for free in the virtual world. Im quite new to the bar scene but im realy annoyed when boys are fixated on the phone screen rather than entertaining customers. I dont go to bars to see people playing with their phones. I rarely see this in dreamboys bkk, but its so prominent in places like tawan. Cost is definitely a factor too. Once i have some contacts with my regular, i would rather arrange things without going to the bar. fedssocr, PeterRS, DivineMadman and 1 other 4 Quote
PeterRS Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 An excellent summary by spoon. If the bars are not providing entertainment and instead giving such a negative impression to a relative newcomer, the business model is shot to pieces. It either changes radically or eventually goes the way of the dinosaur. hanan 1 Quote
vinapu Posted June 12, 2018 Author Posted June 12, 2018 Yes, prices are high but are the boys available TOP-NOTCH? As drool-worthy as these ... don't forget that drool-worthy for one warrants running away screaming for another one, lesson I learn each time I do bar hopping with others And then there's a question what we are looking at in the first place, boy may have ugly face but beautiful body ( I noticed one at Moonlight recently ) , or may be not that attractive looking but is well endowed if that's important. Also look is one thing but what about performance ?. Last Saturday night I was at Jupiter with xiluzer, another member. And there was that great looking boy each of us had bad experience with few years apart. All we could do was to shake our heads in unison. fedssocr and DivineMadman 2 Quote
vinapu Posted June 12, 2018 Author Posted June 12, 2018 I honestly do not agree with the rosy tinted spectacle analogy. Entering a gogo bar 15, 25 or even 35 years ago there was a sort of gob smacked disbelief “Wow! Am I really seeing all this?” are we now the same people we were 15.25 or 35 years ago? is person looking at Wat Arun form the boat for 17th time in the same awe he was at the first time.? When we mourn passing away glorious days of the past are we mourning passing away what was then or just our own long gone youth and vigor ? Just asking The gay world has become global. For those who enjoy Thailand, great. Keep on coming. Unfortunately many who would normally have Thailand top of their list have already voted with their feet. all you saying above is truth but what amazes me that good chunk of those still coming or living there seem to do so only to complain how current state of affairs makes them miserable and how good things were. it's like posters who complain that forums are boring but still they return and still complain , what the point? I just returned and what I had was just fun , fun , fun. Upon reading forum I see gloom, gloom , gloom. For me something is not adding up but that's my problem I guess and I'm glad to have it. Popular Post reader Posted June 12, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 12, 2018 Above made me reconsider what initially draws me to a guy. Sure, the face is usually the first thing I notice but after reading what author of soccer book said about male sensuality (see Beer Bar post "A Good Read"), realize there's something else a bit more difficult to define. But I know it when I see it and I know that I'm not going to see it on line no matter how popular the app may be. It's about how he carries himself, how he moves, what his expression says to me. And frequently, he isn't the most beautiful guy on offer. santosh108, newscene, ggobkk and 5 others 8 Quote

As we age and gain greater experience of life and what it offers its only natural our perceptions change. But I honestly do not believe it necessarily follows that our views on nighttime entertainment change, or at least change much. I reckon it is perfectly clear from comments on the various chat forums that my views are quite common. With rare exceptions, what is on offer in the gogo bars is a shadow of what used to be offered. I also reckon your analogy between the bars and a historical monument like Wat Arun is flawed. My appreciation of Wat Arun actually grows each and every time I am fortunate to see it again. Like a Botticelli painting it never fails to fill me with awe. What is offered in the bars has gone in the opposite direction. I know from the views of many recent visiting friends who never knew what they were like decades ago that they agree. I just returned and what I had was just fun , fun , fun. Popular Post aussie_ Posted June 12, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 12, 2018 American tourists can just as easily go to Sydney or Melbourne where they will instantly find many hundreds of cute Asians on the apps most of whom just want to meet up and have no interest in pay for play. Don't rush to Australia looking for sex unless you are under 35, at the most 40 yo and handsome or have the resources to pay big dollars for money boys. Most Asians living here, visiting or in Australia for study are looking for younger guys themselves. When i was younger myself it was no problem to find a "cute" Asian in Australia but now it is must easier to travel and find a date free or for pay in Asia, especially Thailand. I agree with you about the bars pricing themselves out of the market and even if they all close then we will still have the Hornet and Grindr go go bar which is open 24 hours each day on the apps in Thailand. Like vinapu i prefer to see the guys in the flesh especially in fun bars like Nice Boys or Winner Boys in Sunee where the drinks are still fairly priced. a447a, santosh108, newscene and 3 others 6 Quote

I tend to agree. Sometimes the cutest guy in the gogo bar will not even look at the client. I figure it's not going to get any better when he's in the bedroom, so then it's time to start looking at the second in line & if he's showing no interest, try the third. This approach is not foolproof, as there will be exceptions in both directions, but I think it it tilts the odds in your favour. Quote
Guest abang1961 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 If I'm a Western Joe seeking fun, would I not be an oxymoron? On one hand, I am skeptical when a boy is overzealous with his actions and words of affection. Conversely, I long for that boy who gives me the cold shoulder... Life is indeed complicated for the farang - to be or not to be, to off or not go off, that is the question. If I'm a Western Joe seeking fun, would I not be an oxymoron? To have an average looking boy who will likely deliver the goods or a good-looking boy who will turn into a statue in bed? Do I want to spend big bucks and be disappointed or would I be happy with a cheap chuck-wow? ** I don't have this problem at all. As a potato queen, I am the bait that waits for my man. I don't want him to see me as someone he could pay but rather someone he could shower his affection (in more than 1 way) So far, I am seldom rejected for my good intentions - much to their surprise that they don't have to pay me for a good time and sometimes, for a super-duper long time (a couple of days). The above statement doesn't make sense. If Americans wanted to meet Asian guys, why fly all the way to the antipodes when there are plenty of them studying or working in the larger American cities like LA, SF and New York? The Asian guys in Sydney and Melbourne already have a huge pool to cruise from - from among themselves as well as the local Aussies without needing American tourists. If these Americans wanted to incorporate a bit of travelling with their sex hunts, wouldn't it make more sense to go to the mother ship and visit the big Asian cities like Singapore, Taipeh, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai? And why not Bangkok for non-commercial sex? I mean if "many hundreds of cute Asians" are available for 'free sex' in Sydney and Melbourne, then surely there should be (at least) just as "many" 'non-working boys' in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai? Or is the above writer saying that all Thai guys want money? Quote
sglad Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Remember there are not so many posters in this forum. Since they have been making increasingly negative comments about the experience, is it strange that writ large this will also be felt by the much larger group of gay tourists? Nope. Your sampling is flawed and thus your anecdotal findings cannot be extrapolated onto "the larger group of gay tourists". First you need to identify who the current gay tourists spending the big bucks are. They are not complaining and lamenting the death of Patpong and the Thai sex industry, at least not based on what I've been hearing from my friends and reading gay-oriented sites written in Mandarin. The huge presence of the Chinese and other Asians in the Bangkok bars speaks for itself. They look for hot bods and quick sex, are happy to pay the going rates, and then they move on to other stuff on their itinerary. The ones who are complaining are those westerners on a limited budget who go to the bars for a social experience. They miss not having deferential boys serving and fussing over them - aah the good ol' days of Asian servitude are fast disappearing and they are running out of options for re-living their dusty colonial days for a few shillings. So they whinge and whine. You can't blame the Bangkok bar owners for gearing their business model towards their main/current market and ignoring the whiners who nature will take care of as the years go by anyway. It's just good business sense. vinapu, paulsf and newscene 3 Quote

The Asian guys in Sydney and Melbourne already have a huge pool to cruise from - from among themselves as well as the local Aussies without needing American tourists. That is not what i said. The point I was trying to make was really very simple. If you live on the west coast of the US and want a vacation that includes meeting up with other guys whether they are Asian, Latin American or of whatever nationality, it is now easier and faster to fly to South America or Australia than it is to Thailand. So the gay tourist holiday world has grown a lot larger than it was a few decades ago. sglad is absolutely correct in mentioning the arrival in Thailand of many more Chinese and Asians. When compared to the western tourists of yesteryear the problem for the bar owners though is that it seems they go to bars primarily for one drink and to see a show. More than one mamasan has told me that so far they are far less interested in offs. One reason for drinks prices having shot up. The majority find their sex in the saunas, gay massage spas and I assume the apps. But sglad is spot on in his final sentences. The gogo bar business model is outdated and needs to change to survive. williewillie Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Back to the topic. We went to Tokyo Boys last night. No one was outside, no doormen, no one. I thought it was closed, when a ladyman opened the door and greeted us. We were the only customers. Tokyo is a small bar and very badly set up. The seating area faces the bar and one has to turn their neck at least 90 degrees to see the tiny poorly lite platform/stage. 7 friendly boys in loose shorts all wearing shirts. Beers were 300b. on the menu. The checkbin was for 350b. When I told the waiter the menu read 300b., he said he would give a promotion and charge 300b. The mamasan said did we want to see 6 packs. I said sure and several boys removed their shirts and things improved a tad. vinapu 1 Quote

No, that's not what you said in post #25. You specifically said Sydney and Melbourne for Asian guys and South America for Latin guys. If flight cost and convenience is really the issue, than it would make more sense for Americans to visit their larger, more cosmopolitan cities where the odds of finding Asian guys are better given their larger populations than in Sydney or Melbourne and for essentially similar cultural experiences. And if they must travel but flight cost and convenience is still an issue, then Hawaii, Japan or Taiwan would possibly be closer and provide better odds and more interesting cultural experiences. This bringing coal to Newcastle thing by going to Sydney or Melbourne just doesn't make good sense. And, as aussie suggested in post #33, you need to look good in a pair of boardies coz you'll be competing with some pretty hot guys. More so if you go in the summer months where the hottest of the hottest from Europe and Brazil descend upon the Australian beaches. Friends from Sg who are into white guys hit those beaches as the pickings are so much better than what they find in SE Asia. Quote

This place is unlikely to survive unless they buck up their ideas. 1 How do they expect to attract customers if the bar looks like it's closed ? 2 Gogo boys wearing shorts & shirts. Think I would choose a bar where they are in the usual underwear, otherwise, what's the point ? 3 Overcharging for the drinks. Inexcusable. The price charged should match the price list. 4 Poor layout. You would think who ever invested their money in this business would be monitoring it closely during the first few days, to ensure standards are maintained. Thankfully, capitalism should correct this, as badly managed businesses tend to close & the good ones thrive. Quote

Guest Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 go figure !. Well if that business model brings in customers, I suppose it's the way to go. However, I really cannot figure it out. We can see cute fully clothed lads everywhere. The one serving in my local Costa is a fine example. I get in there for the price of a £2 coffee. He's fully clothed, although the jeans are a very tight fit. I wouldn't pay more to see someone like him fully clothed on a stage in Jupiter. Put him in Speedos & I might just buy one of the 400 baht drinks (or whatever it is). Quote

It is because the chinese who make up 99% of these bars visitors don't want to see too much skin. That would shock the chinese ladies too much. They are happy to just see the boys in jeans and shirts and to get a short glimpse of their bodies in the shows, so the bars adjust to this. Jasper and anddy 2 Quote
