Guest asdsrfr
Hi All- During my upcoming trip to Thailand in March I will travel to Ho Chi Minh City for several days. I prefer to keep my options open on dates if I can. My question is this. Am I going to pay a premium for waiting to buy that portion of my ticket until I get to Thailand? As many of you may know in the US if you wait until the last minute to buy airline tickets the fare can be ridiculously expensive--though this isn't always true in Thailand. I would prefer to wait until I get to Thailand to buy that portion of my ticket unless you guys advise otherwise.
Gaybutton
If it were me, I would check the discount airfare web sites to see what kind of a deal you can get. If you don't find anything that seems to be a particularly good discount, then I would advise you to buy the ticket in Thailand. It was invariably my experience that buying tickets on the Thailand end was significantly less expensive than buying them on the USA end. Since you live in the USA, I also suggest contacting the same travel agent I have been recommending for many years: Rhonda, at Norcross Travel. She specializes in travel to Thailand and was always able to get airfares for me at hundreds of dollars less than any other source. I have no idea whether she can get you a good discount for travel between Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, but it's worth a try. Her toll free number is 1-888-888-7157. Ask to speak specifically to Rhonda.
Guest GaySacGuy
I recently traveled to Saigon. My ticket was with Thai Air, and purchased in the US. Now, however, it I was to do it all over, I would get my ticket in Thailand. There are some low cost air lines (Asia Air, 1 2 go, Bangkok Air, and others) that offer very reasonable fares flying in SE Asia, and there doesn't seem to be any difference in price buying well ahead, or very close to the flight date. Good luck on your trip to Vietnam. I especially enjoyed visiting the tunnels, and touring the Mekong Delta.
Guest MonkeySee
I am by no means an expert, but I think GaySacGuy advice to wait until you are in Thailand, is good advice. I would not think that March is a very busy time to travel and so you should not have trouble booking. I know Air Asia flies to Hanoi and you can book an online ticket at www.AirAsia.com for under $140 US taxes and fuel surcharges included. Guest hajuthai
Vietnam airline, Thai air, Lufthansa and Air France go BKK - Ho Chi minh City. Tickets are not especially cheap, about 11.000 - 12.000 bath. I took Air France, paid 8.700 bath return. When you come, look in Bangkok post and see travelagents in Bangkok, they are cheapst.
