caeron Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Hi, I'm not a complete newbie, but it's been a lot of years since I've been to Bangkok, so I'm hoping some more recently experienced folks will give me a hand. I've quit drinking, and would rather avoid the bar scene. I'm reading a bit about using social dating apps to pick up guys. How does that work? I'd be happier to just pay the guys and play at the hotel than to pay off-fees and massage fees. What's the going rate (I'm a bottom, and I like kissing) these days? I tend to prefer more athletic, built guys (not so into twinks), any place in particular I should go? I did Tawan last time, which was a bit hit or miss and pricier than the rest. I won't be in town long, so want to make sure I make good use of my time! Thanks in advance. Quote
forky123 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Apps work as they do everywhere. Only difference is that whereas elsewhere an old man with a beer belly won’t get much attention, in Thailand they will have 20 messages within 30 minutes of coming online. Not sure of the prices in Bangkok but in Pattaya the guys on apps will ask for somewhere around 1000 baht. I’m sure you can haggle if you are into that. Figure it being more expensive in Bangkok. Sorry, bars aren’t my thing so no help there. Quote
speedoo1 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Apps in BKK: Asking price for a Thai MB will be 2000 B and up. Western escort guys will ask much more. You should be able to negotiate down to 1,500 B - even 1,000 B if the MB is Cambodian, Vietnamese etc, needs cash or are short of customers (low season). Offer anything lower than 1,000 B and you will be considered a cheap Charlie. For the avoidance of doubt: I'm talking about ST (not LT); MB will fuck you in your room until you cum and quickly leave with a few bank notes in his hands/pocket. Easy! paborn and DivineMadman 2 Quote
eternityz Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Which apps should we use in Bangkok and Pattaya? Any to recommend? I tried Romeo and Blued but did not receive many messages. Should i have written my profile or description in a certain way to invite more messages? Any advice on how to tell the difference between those who are willing to meet up for some cash versus those who aren't? Sorry for the newbie questions... Quote

Guest Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 It's possible to visit the bars & drink non-alcoholic drinks. When in Thailand you have to try the bars at least once. As for the apps, 1000~1500 will suffice for most boys. If they ask for 3000, that's usually a negotiating ploy, just in case the customer is dumb enough to pay it. I've had cases where I counter a 3000 request with 1000, expecting to settle at 1500 & they immediately accepted the 1000. I prefer to meet outside the hotel, then if they don't look like the profile photos, it's easier to terminate proceedings. Thankfully not a common problem, but be prepared to deal with it & reject such deception. Quote
rand32 Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Try general hookup apps + Grindr, something will gonna "work" Quote

rand32 Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 z909, I forgot to ask, how often happens to you that they don't look like on pictures they sent to you ? Quote
ChristianPFC Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Some boys write in their profile that they are looking for money. Sometimes that information is in English, sometimes in Thai. In Silom area it's pretty save to assume that everyone is looking for money. I had various form hornet, some of them with good English, and 1000 THB was happily accepted (repeat visits, and traveling from as far as Rangsit or Minburi (!!!) included). However if pressed for time, bars or massage are the better way to go. You see what you get, and you get it now. fedssocr, paborn, reader and 1 other 4 Quote
Guest Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 z909, I forgot to ask, how often happens to you that they don't look like on pictures they sent to you ? Most of the time, they look the same. There are some who have aged by a year or 2 or have a modest change of hair style, which I accept. Assuming they speak enough English, I often ask if they look exactly like the picture before agreeing to meet. After all, that, the ones who arrive & have a sufficient deviation in appearance for me to send them away amount to less than 5%. It's probably been about 3 years since I had one. A more common problem is where their pictures are accurate, but have them lying face down or some other ruse to disguise a beer belly, or other imperfections. If I've made the error in not spotting that, then that's my responsibility, so I would normally go a head with the date & try not to make the same mistake again. Check ALL the photos. There clearly are people out there with old photos. One lad I know has had the same profile photo for over 5 years on the dating apps. Quote
Londoner Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 . If a guy's profile says that he's looking for partners between the ages of 18 and 70 you can be pretty sure he's an MB! In Pattaya, few of those using Romeo or hornet aren't looking for falang money. I prefer Classic Romeo on my lap-top but the new version is better on my tablet....I suspect that it is also better on mobiles. I agree that it offers less guidance when it comes to different physical types. Quote
Guest Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 .I agree that it offers less guidance when it comes to different physical types. Planet Romeo & Hornet also allow several pictures to be visible for each profile. With Grindr, it's one. If Grindr gets a monopoly on this market, it will offer a barely adequate free service and have fees for anything else. More pictures allow you to get a much better idea about what he's like. If he's posted 8 photos, check all 8. In one case, I remember only the last photo that showed him after the lady boy conversion. Beware of what's not shown. If there are 6 face pics and no body shot, what is he hiding. JackD used to be quite useful too. However, they went through a period where the app kept crashing and it lost customers. Also, all of these apps now allow you to set your location where you like, so you can have a look around. Of course, Grindr charges you for contacting anyone, but installing a FakeGPS app on your phone soon gets around that. Quote
nynakedtop Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 Adding a newbie question: do app boys speak english? Newbie or not, it's a good question.... and I would say generally not. Many of the boys/guys are Cambodian or Vietnamese and do not communicate well in Thai or English. Also I have learned that the "commercial"/working guys on the Apps are less likely to speak English than guys just looking for fun. That can cause some problems, as I have learned. Mis-communications of the strangest sorts can happen. Case in point: the guy who texted me multiple pics of his butt... each one more explicit than the one before... but when the critical moment came said that he is "only top"....(look at my screen name, hehe) Google translate only works up to a point, if you know what I mean. Guest Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 Most app boys speak enough English to get the job done. It's capitalism at it's best, since if they don't get to meet you, they earn no money. So either they need to learn enough English, or they need to move onto another job. Quickly, before the cash runs out. Contrast with Scorpion host bar, where Vietnamese boys just act as the very cute bait to get customers to buy drinks, but offer nothing else other than sitting there looking pretty. [Hope I have the name of the bar right] Quote

DivineMadman Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 Scorpion?? Scorpion is a beer bar further down Soi Twilight on the "right" side. I think it's an ok place. I don't recommend it highly but don't say to avoid it either. Some years ago there were a few young (but legal) Vietnamese guys who worked there. They did the job they were hired to do and would lure customers into the bar with their youth and cuteness and were happy to sit and chat and get the customers to buy drinks. They were, however, notoriously not-offable. Or if they would go with a customer it was for a very high price and the might be rather limited in what they would do sexually. (Sort of like the models at Moonlight now.) But this, apparently, was a sin that cried to heaven so loud that it still echoes in the hearts of same blue-balled patrons. Why I don't really know, but it is what it is. As others have pointed out, repeatedly, whenever this same shibboleth rears its bitter head, those particular guys are gone. So it's no longer true. Repeat. No longer true. (Dare we say, "Fake News"?) A point that I've made before is that their role as "drink bait" was done with the full understanding of the bar manager, so I don't think it should be used to justify the endless (and IMHO unmerited) anti-Vietnamese comments. Personally, I think we should always assume that the guys working at the bars have a choice on whether or not to go with me or any other customer. Because, you know, they're human and deserve that bit of respect. So if a cute guy is working at a bar but not off-able, it doesn't bother me. They're still eye candy and maybe a pleasant drinking companion. There's a favorite waiter at Maxi's who is marriage material, I put in the same category. But for some it's just the gift of bitterness that keeps on giving. and giving. ggobkk, reader and paulsf 3 Quote

Guest Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 No idea where you got the bitterness idea from. I'm just using it as the perfect contrast between boys on the apps who HAVE to learn enough English & the other type, who can sit there looking pretty, getting a cut from beer sales. Quote

paborn Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 I'm glad this topic came up. A lot of Viet boys get a bad rap. I enjoyed Scorpion. Actually had several lads thought to be non-offable, they did what we agreed to and no more. But, as that is what I agreed to as well it was proper. I'll go back next trip and check it out. I'm glad such recent reports are able to dispell the myth. Again, they did not do what I would have wanted but they did what we agreed on.
