Los Angeles to BKK--Evergreen Deluxe--or Thai economy nosstop

Hi All-

I am planning my next trip and basically the flight choices come down ho this. Evergreen deluxe class with about an hour and a half layover each way--or the Thai Airways non stop from LAX--BKK.

Even though the Thai Airways flight is in economy--it's about $275 more than the Eva Air Evergreen Deluxe class.

What would you guys do?

I have taken EVA Evergreen Deluxe and it is better than flying economy with any airline... The stop in Taiwan enables you to stretch your legs a bit-not a big problem.

I know little about Thai economy. 16 hours is one looooong flight. If Thai offered a substantial savings I would consider them. I'm an EVA frequent flyer and am quite happy.

Heard that Thai has a direct flight with Premiun Economy. 40.000 Bahts instead of 32000 econymy seat. Heard from friends the seats are much comfortable. Not a business class either but at least i tis better than tight economy seats.

I just booked it for end of January. I will check it out.

It all depend on someone's taste, but personnally, I would prefer to get direct to BKK and be done with it. Stopping can be a pain in the butt.... Never know..

I used Thai Air Premium Economy LAX-BKK and return last month. It was $200 extra each way and I thought well worth it on the 17hr going and 14hr returning flights.

The seats were very comfortable with 42inch pitch and 18.5" width. There was a foot rest and reclining back to 45 degrees. The 3 meals served were good and the individual TV system was terrific: 20 choices of movies; 15 TV channels with comedies and documentaries; about 15 music channels.

I still am trying to decide whether a stop and leg stretch to split up the long flight is worth the extra time in travel with savings in price.

I would recommend the Thai Premium Economy if you can afford the extra money of Thai Air and the Premium seat and you want to get to BKK quickly.

Comfort on a long flight is important to me. I have used EVA deluxe on my last two round trips from BKK to LAX and return. The food and service are the same as regular economy - BUT, the seats are wider with a better pitch (747 and 777). They also have a foot rest. Considering that the price is less than Thai's economy fare, I don't think you will be disappointed - even with the short stop in Taiwan -- EVA uses the newest terminal - there is a food court of sorts on the upper floor if you want to have a drink and place to sit. Also, if you have a laptop with wireless capability, there is a shop (near gate 5 as I recall, but could be wrong on that) that offers free wireless connection (catch the news, email friends, check this forum, etc.) -- if you don't have a wireless notebook, this same shop has 3 or 4 desktop computers available for free internet connection -- however, often they are being used and there is a line.

Thanks for all the input.

I went ahead and booked the Eva flight. I've flown their Deluxe class before and it was quite nice. Even though Thai Airways flight is non-stop the thought of being in an economy seat for nearly 17 hours and paying nearly $300 extra for the privilege just didn't seem worth it. I re-checked the Eva intinerary and the layover to BKK is only 50 min in Taipei--it would swing me more toward the Thai Airways option if it were like some of the 8h+ layovers on other routings that I've seen.

In reality I think the low Eva fare is some kind of computer glitch on their part, as it's lower for Deluxe Class on those days than all the other airlines are charging for economy--but my confirmation shows the low fare--and Evergreen Deluxe so I'm going with it!
