Gay Cambodia advice for first timer please

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi all, I will travel from Thailand to Cambodia for my first time during November.

Can anyone advise me on the best area to head to in Cambodia for me to visit for gay scene and Go Go bars. I'm not particularly interested in temples.

Are there any gay cruising areas, saunas, bars etc?

I understand that I can use apps also just unsure of the best area to head to as I may only visit one this trip.

Also how safe is it to walk around especially at night? Some say it's fine other have had bad experiences.

My preference for boys is the twink type.

Thanks

I understand you are not interested in temples but then , why go if common wisdom is that best Cambodian boys are already in Pattaya , Jomtien in particular although I saw Cambodian semi-angel in BBB as well last month ?

You will be safe there, one may have bad experience everywhere including Rome's  basilicas but nowadays Cambodia is safe country, just watch your step at night as streets are not universally asphalted and potholes abound

Going to Cambodia without visiting Angkor Wat would be a shame, like visiting Bangkk and not going to Babylon. A friend of mine spent three days in Siem Rep and saw Angkor by day and twinks by night. It sounded pretty good to me.

I must hang myself out of shame, 16 trips to BKK and never been in Babylon

10 trips to Thailand & 2 or 3 visits to Babylon. I don't expect to go there on the 11th visit.

As for Cambodia, it's a great country to visit. Siem Reap is nice for temples, Phnom Penh is slightly better for getting laid. The OP has not declared where in Cambodia he is going.

As for safety, I have always treated Cambodia like I can walk anywhere at any time of day. So far so good, no hint of problems.

Siem Reap is nice for temples,

I think that's big understatement, like saying  France or England are nice for Gothic cathedrals, even fabulous is not word good enough for all three cases mentioned

I am not aware of any gogo bars in Cambodia. Going to Cambodia for gay sex venues is likely to leave you disappointed.

There are a couple of bars in Phnom Penh. And I think there's at least one sauna.

Travelgayasia is a decent source of info

I was in Siem Reap  and really liked Angkor temples, which were the main reason for my visit.

I visited also other things, such as a landmine museum.

I had a massage in a shop just outside the city center of Siem Reap. OK, but limited choice.

My advice would be: go to Cambodia for its history and sightseeing, but visit Pattaya for having sex with cute Cambodian boys.

not that one can't have adventures there , far from it . Last December my trip was graced by 3 long times with Barcode massage boy.

Cute and available boys are there . it's just boy industry which is still in diapers compare to Thailand

If you are not very interested by temples, or memory of red khmers, I don't understand why you should go Cambodia...

Stay Pattaya and enjoy !!!

...and you ADMIT it? In a gay public forum?? I feel faint...

You would probably be shocked how many of us have never been to Babylon.

Not really. I'm just having a bit of fun here. Although I will say it's a ritual for me and I have been there at least once in each of the past 27 years. I might have missed a year or two, but that only means I missed going to Thailand altogether. Even at my advanced age, I still get lucky, usually. In recent years it has been with wiry Issan farm boys age 40 up. Even with a few facial wrinkles, their tight little bodies are hot, and it's likely their once a year trip to the big smoke, so they are shy but really passionate.

yes, I'm not sure I should be called "Vinapu the shy" for not going there or "Vinapu the brave" for admitting it in public

I have more on that list of shame: never been to DJ Station as well.

Babylon I skipped because saunas aren't  my scene and for accommodation I found it too far from everywhere.

DJ Station I boycott because when I tried to go there several years ago , well past 40 already they asked me for ID, so i decided I will not be participation in lunacy, particularly that I know other sources of boys.

and it can be said about many other famous gay and tourist places.

One poster just recently admitted about never hearing about Screwboys, I can name at least two who never went to Tawan and  one,   who despite annual haj to Thailand was last time in soi Twilight during Reagan presidency.

I know guy who spent 10 months working in BKK and never visited Grand Palace and  I escorted once a couple to ARL station at Swampy they did not know existence of despite being frequent visitors to BKK by their own admission.

So advice to OP is : don't make those mistakes and when in Cambodia see st least some temples , you may discover you are falling in love with ancient ruins , not boys

Im guilty of both. Never been to babylon and dj station or any other dance club or sauna for that matter. I have been to sauna a few times before, once in my home country and the experience have been mixed. I did enjoy my time in sauna in tokyo famous 24kaikan and osaka houkuken though, its full of guys with lots of action, great facilities and one of the cheaper option for sleeping too. But my experience in alexander in HK is a bit boring, and being denied entry to hutong was also a bad experience.

But, reading christianpc blog on all the sauna in thai which some of them have special shows intrigue me actually. Maybe ill visit those sauna some day, just for the show. Just the fact the show time is random annoys me a bit lol. I do agree that babylon is a bit far from most gogobars and public transport, which also my one reason for not going there yet

Guys

I'm more guilty than everybody else combined but this  is  Cambodia thread and I started derailing it today , my apologies to jones, OP

The derailing is more my fault than yours. Sorry.

There are gay scenes in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and maybe Sihanoukville (I haven't been).

Siem Reap more commercial, in saunas in Phnom Penh for free.

No gogo bars, but various saunas, host bars, massage places to choose from.

My experiences in various posts on my blog, e.g. here:

You will probably be shocked how many have never been to Vinapu (the "real" place on the other side of the planet, not the hotel room of our forum member).

I've been there, and Vinapu too. But who else?

I guess once should visit at least Angkor Wat, the most important temple in the park, when in Cambodia. This is what our country is known for. Also Siem Reap, where the temple is located also have a really good gay scene/vibe. You can visit the temple and yet you still manage to fulfil your plan to explore Cambodia's gay environment.

BTW, If I understand the definition of go go bar right, I don't think Cambodia has one.

I knew about the Isla de Pascua, but never heard of Ahu Vinapu until I saw the alias of our illustrious member here. (I hope he does not hang himself over the failure to visit Babylon, but instead visits it. )

Be assured Vinapu that the first experience of Babylon is much more relevant that the first visit to Tawan. (this is from an elaborate analysis since I've never been in Tawan... but I can imagine)

I can live with illustrious , thank you Steve

No plans to hang myself any time soon for any reason , I think I will stick to Tawan for time being though although after last trip it looks BBB in Pattaya is getting  quite a chunk of my heart.

The more I read about Pattaya the more inclined I am to make it my primary destination (with Babylon second) in any future trip to LOS.  This comes with a more liberal view of moneyboys.  I'm in little need of temples, fine restaurants, impressive buildings, spectacular events, or cultural experiences that don't involve the culture, cultivation of pleasure.
