Best apps currently out of Blued, Jackd or Grindr?

Recommended Posts

Just seeking some advice about the best apps at the moment.

I already have Gayromeo and Hornet. I was debating whether it's worth while downloading another one - I don't want them all but I think perhaps I will try a third.

So, for those of you that have them, which is best out of Blued, Jackd or Grindr?

I am thinking specifically for meeting Thai guys in Bangkok and Pattaya.

Is there one of them which is particularly good for meeting money boys?

Just about the apps in general, do people have a feeling that amongst those apps there are some currently on the up in terms of popularity, and maybe one which is on the slide? I get the impression that people think Gayromeo is past its peak, which is a pity as I quite like the layout of that app, ( well, more the layout of the classic version and on a PC).

But I'll be interested to hear what people think.

Blued definitely has a ton more local Thai guys. It's fully free and unlimited too. However, it seems as though money boys who use phone apps to find customers either charge alot more, are heavy drug users, use fake/old pics, or all the above. Personally I still think going out to the go go bars is the best way to meet money boys.

My picks are: Grindr and GayRomeo

Blued seems to me to be popular with Chinese users on holiday.  It's a definite "yes" if one is in China.  Not sure of it's usefulness in Thailand.  I have had moderate success with Planet / Gay Romeo which the OP already uses.

I have experience with romeo, hornet, jack'd and grindr. I fail to understand why grindr is (still) so popular in the face of the competition. As the hornet marketing spiel says, why limit to ONE picture? Why limit to 100 guys only? Hornet has no such limits, multiple pictures (though no unlimited, but fair enough), and no limit on the visible guys. Same for the others. Grindr is a big loser in my view in terms of functionality. In Asia, romeo used and still is actively used, being the pioneer. Hornet and jack'd are very popular, too, but I have discontinued to use jack'd (not as easy userfriendly as hornet, too many apps lol). Grindr is more a farang thing is my impression. Blued I haven't tried.

Grindr:    Very popular around some places in Europe, like UK, Portugal & for all I know, many other countries.    I do not like Grindr at all, but have to use it in these locations.

There is no need at all to use Grindr in places like Bangkok  or Pattaya.

Grindr has less functionality for free & has intrusive ads.    Recently it starts playing 15 second videos with sound on, even though my phone is on mute. So beware of using in quiet locations (don't fire it up whilst at someone's funeral).  The only way to stop that is to turn the volume down or shut the app.   I choose the latter option. The ads stay away for a while on restart.

I hate it, but it gets used where I have to.

JackD:   I used to like this, but most of the iterations in the last few years have been unreliable & prone to freezing or crashing.   The latest version seems to work OK.   Less popular than Grindr.    No longer possible to capture photos as a screenshot, due to security settings.

Nice facility to search anywhere in the world, however then you don't actually know how far the boys are from your remote destination.

Hornet:  More features than Grindr.    Have used it with success in Thailand.    Now introducing an upper limit on the number of profiles you can use for free.

Planet Romeo:  The old favourite, with web functionality & phone.    I still prefer to use this in Thailand.  Seems less greedy than some of the other apps.  The only one I know of with an escorts section, useful in some countries.   It's not possible to view escorts on the Android version, but if you start a conversation with one on a PC, this can be continued on Android.

Blued:   Have installed it, but simply don't get on with it's interface.

Errm, when was the last time you updated or were online on hornet?

In the last few weeks they have started restricting the number of visible profiles...

Depending on some random algorithm (Not sure exactly? Time of Day? Location) they are limiting users to around 9-15 lines of profiles (i.e. 26-44 profiles including your own)...

I notice that users have abandoned it in droves and gone back to GayRomeo in the last few weeks

Personally i hope that Hornet goes the same was as gay.com and fridae after their despicable attempt at monetizing their app (as if the ads were not intrusive enough already)

I installed blued since seeing it mentioned here. Seems to be a ton of Thai guys. And lots of Pinoys. And Indonesians. And pretty much everyone local to me seems to be Asian...including one guy who I think must be my neighbor based on the distance info (he's also on jack'd).

I find grindr's ads more annoying than hornet's. Grindr plays a lot of video ads which can be very loud if you're not expecting them

ooops, you're right I am NOT a frequent user and wasn't aware of that new restriction - which is indeed despicable! Thanks for the headsup!

Disappointed with hornet this trip, I tried registering for Jack'd and Blue'd on my my laptop and  then my tablet and was unsuccessful. Both devices were deemed "incompatible."

Romeo, which last time (June) yielded no riches, has now overtaken the truncated hornet as the  better option, at least for me.

JackD:...No longer possible to capture photos as a screenshot, due to security settings.

That's interesting. I can take screenshots without problems on facebook, gayromeo, horne on my mobile phone.

From using gayromeo and hornet, and having used grindr in 2014 (I accidentally logged out and couldn't log in again on my phone, so I used that glitch to test hornet, and stayed with hornet), I can say the problem is elsewhere: with all these apps you are fishing in the same pool, and you get the same fakers or stupid/lazy/greedy regardless of which app you use.

I can take screenshots with gay romeo, grindr etc.

Therefore JackD is the only app I have which specifically prevents screenshots.    I presume the older edition on one of my other devices will be OK, but haven't tested that theory.

Yes, an app can change a system security setting that blocks the screenshot feature while it has the screen. It's super annoying; one of my email apps comes with the same restriction.

isn't technology actually supposed to make our lives easier ?
