Popular Post forky123 Posted September 25, 2017 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2017 I would like to ask that people stop derailing and wrecking threads with personal attacks. I don't understand why a few people can't disagree without it becoming personal, but it happens over and over again often with the same culprits. Scooby, while I appreciate the effort you put into the board, locking threads punishes everyone for the transgressions of a minority. I would ask that you punish culprits earlier with suspensions and later with bans for serial offenders. ChristianPFC, traveller123, bobsaigon and 5 others 8

What I do not understand is that some of the culprits often post articulate, useful posts and then it is as if they can't resist throwing in nasty comments - are they drunk when they do this. Please offenders just stop doing it. kokopelli 1
Guest DThump Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I thought "Pattaya in low season" was a really good thread that got a çrazy personnal reaction from samebb and thus killed it for all.
Boy69 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I like this website becuse it is informative, helpul and respected. I stopped using Sawatdee website excatly because it became abusive with personal attacks between forum members. I hope this website will stay respectful ,we are here to help each other and not for making a fuss. ggobkk 1
Guest samebb Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I thought "Pattaya in low season" was a really good thread that got a çrazy personnal reaction from samebb and thus killed it for all. There was nothing personal or crazy. In my opinion, which I am entitled to, my post was accurate. The threat of a "ban" is not something I am too concerned with. I can contribute somewhere else if my shared knowledge here is not welcomed. No problem. I think it's worth mentioning that I had no intention of even posting in this thread till you took it upon yourself to call me out. Guess you just can't help yourself huh?

ct2005 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Same BB got his wish! He is banned!! Is he allowed to create another ID & continue as per normal?
forrestreid Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 A problem with any discussion board is that you will always have contentious topics. Sometimes it seems that the more particular and limited the list of interests the board covers, the more bitter the disputes - the integrity of small differences. There just has to be an acceptance amongst posters that there will be differences and an ability to accept them with good grace. For a board such as this, relating to topics of interest mainly to gay tourists in Thailand, to be useful and attractive to posters, it should have vigorous and informed discussions. That is why I think was a suggestion that was made in the recently locked thread that people refrain from discussing what type is staff was in bars, such as whether the guys were fem or masculine or muscular, and so on, is misguided. This opinion is mistaken in my view because the bars with offable boys in Thailand often do specialise in a "type" of guy and what type of guy is available in what bar is an absolutely legitimate topic for discussion in a board such as this, in fact it could almost be described as a principle raisin d'etre of the board. It can be a contentious topic I will admit, but it can be discussed politely if posters have a bit of cop on. As a previous poster said, the best way to deal with rude and obnoxious posters is to tackle them head on, with a suspension or banning, rather than attempting the Sisyphean task of trying to curtail a natural discussion point on the board. TotallyOz Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Is he allowed to create another ID & continue as per normal? I do not know the reason he was banned or the thread in discussion. However, the answer to your question is that if the mods find he creates another ID, that will be banned as well. That has been in the rules for years. I think. ct2005 1
Guest Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Pattaya in Low Season has been unlocked and worst offender banned. Hopefully no more personal attacks! forky123 1
Popular Post vinapu Posted September 26, 2017 Popular Post Posted September 26, 2017 I can contribute somewhere else if my shared knowledge here is not welcomed. your knowledge is (was ) welcomed but inclination to name calling , personal attacks and promised to smoke in the face of everybody who will complain about smoking in the bar which allows it, is (was ) not. stijntje Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Thank you Scooby. Let's hope for a better world and start here !
rollingstone Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 It is a pity samebb has been banned. I obviously do not agree with him all the time but he does provide info I am very much looking forward to ... the type of boys, hotels to stay and smoking habit etc lol. I perhaps need to scout for his whereabouts and follow his posts ... I am sure he will be/ is around here or other Gay boards. LOL:) I am trying to be civil on anonymous boards like this (disagreeing without being disrespectful) and funnily enough in real life I am anything but ... :) ChristianPFC 1
vinapu Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 ......disagreeing without being disrespectful..... that's the key statement and we all would be well served if this approach was applied by everybody. TotallyOz 1
TotallyOz Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I don't agree with one damn thing any of you people say on this site. However, I try to be polite when I know my opinion is the right one (which is always). steveboy 1
Boy69 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Sammeb maybe crossed the line at one thread but to ban him permanently seems very harsh punishment to me it was better to suspend him for short period.he was very informative and helpful for many members here including me ,some advices he gave me were very helpful . Just my humble opinion...
steveboy Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Sammeb maybe crossed the line at one thread but to ban him permanently seems very harsh punishment to me it was better to suspend him for short period.he was very informative and helpful for many members here including me ,some advices he gave me were very helpful . Just my humble opinion... I second your opinion. A person who consistently posts here for years also makes an INVESTMENT of his time and interests. It is disturbing to see this taken away so drastically. All because some people are sensitive to others arguing, as if they are models of civility, and they complain. We all have our shortcomings and to tolerate them, this is a model of civility. I personally don't like samebb, but I recognize his valuable contributions and I like even less the way he was thrown out, his personality changed to "Banned" like he is a criminal. So I want to petition Scooby to reinstate samebb's membership and give him another chance or a suspension.
bobsaigon Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I disagree. He made a couple of entirely unacceptable comments, almost vicious, in regard to some other members' posts. Many other members can easily fill any information gaps that are the result of his banning. Vessey, vinapu, bucknaway and 1 other 4
Popular Post Alexx Posted September 27, 2017 Popular Post Posted September 27, 2017 I think Scooby made it clear that repeat offenders will be banned, not suspended. samebb did get suspended after his run-in with jfarmer over posting photos. Suspending him yet again for his conduct on this thread doesn't make any sense, as he wasn't willing to change. I agree that many of samebb's posts were very good and helpful. I, too, will miss them. It's just sad that he had these ugly episodes. Ban well deserved but unfortunate, I think. traveller123, kokopelli, Vessey and 3 others 6
forky123 Posted September 27, 2017 Author Posted September 27, 2017 He had much good information, he simply couldn't accept anyone disagreeing with his views without descending into name calling.

It's just sad that he had these ugly episodes. Ban well deserved but unfortunate, I think. I remember his run-in with jfarmer, and there is where my dislike for him started. You say "he wasn't willing to change". This sounds awfully close to what one hears about us gays: "we aren't willing to change". I hope no one disagrees that this is a gay site and we members are a community of gays. A community that has been unjustly banned, bullied, victimized for being gay and "not willing to change" in more or less degree depending on our personal experiences. This should teach us to not give up on people because they are apparently unwilling to change. Can anyone assess that samebb was "unwilling" or that an aspect of his character happened to come through? I don't see how we benefit by having him permanently banned instead of temporarily suspended. Suspended each time he crosses the line, once and "seventy times seven" times. Of course I'm not the one who has to do this and I don't know how much work this is for Scooby, if it is more than a few clicks on his system. At least if it is done consistently, there is hope that samebb will learn one day and change, and then and only then will something positive be accomplished.
Guest Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Samebb has been screwing up the forum & derailing threads fore some time, so ban is well & truly justified. Also some of the people suggesting his behaviour is OK also like to derail threads & create arguments. I don't think that's a great way to behave. However, the big question is do you want a free for all, completely deregulated, but where threads are derailed & rudeness is almost standard ? Or a level of moderation ? We have already seen some of the high quality contributers move to another forum. Gaining a few trolls in return will not replace the quality input lost.
steveboy Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Same has been screwing up the forum & derailing threads fore some time, so ban is well & truly justified. Also some of the people suggesting his behaviour is OK also like to derail threads & create arguments. I don't think that's a great way to behave. However, the big question is do you want a free for all, completely deregulated, but where threads are derailed & rudeness is almost standard ? Or a level of moderation ? What I propose is to use suspension when a member crosses the line and screws up the forum, derails threads, etc. "according to the judgment of the administrator, the moderator". This is a perfect solution for the time of the suspension, like one month in the first case with samebb. This should give time to calm the situation. I find that "derail threads" is a lame excuse, since there are so many threads that can be started, and the ones I know that were "derailed" returned to their course without problems. I find it ugly when members snitch on other members and start threads to blow up an incident of verbal fighting. The job of the moderator is to be current with all the posting here, and Scooby seems quite capable to identify the incident and take action without people complaining. We should be a COMMUNITY, not a gang of righteous people who converse as they please and then take it out against individuals who they don't like because they are of stronger character. Note that in this case it is also a gang against an individual, who tried to get samebb banned like he is an outsider. I read exactly the same posts you did, and I would not like to complain to the moderator. In a community, the good and the bad need to have a chance to live, and here we are fortunate to have a moderator who keeps the peace so that we don't have to do it ourselves.
bucknaway Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I vote that every time someone is warned and suspended and then banned, we remember the good times and cry for them and ask for them to have another chance.... NOT! I vote no to personal attacks and hope personal attackers are removed from the forum. bobsaigon and vinapu 2
