steveboy Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 It's sad because some of his posts provide useful information and insights. Others, however, about his life as a Singaporean "uni" student or stressed out young man, detract from his original persona and leave readers unsure where he draws the line between reality and fiction . Reader, I don't see why you should feel sad. The world is full of uncertainty over reality vs. fiction. Why should it be different here? How can I know who and what you are, if I were interested? Unless there is reason to believe otherwise, I trust what Members of GT write about themselves. I also believe the information they give about the gay scene, and this trust will not cause me any harm because I don't take data at face value but usually I'm able to double check it. No one is posting here Under Oath, so no crime is committed if Members want to embellish their story or their persona. If a Member who is a senior wants to post as a young Thai twink in heat or any other figure, and enjoys the thrill, I have nothing against it and I wish him good luck. He is not victimizing anyone. If it becomes obvious that he is a fluke, I will laugh instead of getting angry. In all these years I have never ever received a spiteful, insulting post from Sglad. This is much more than what I can say about some critics here, and this is what is important in my modest opinion. If a Member lets his fantasy run wild while being well behaved, not aggressive, not resentful, what in heaven is gained by throwing dirt on him instead of letting him live and occasionally chuckle over some of his oddities? vinapu 1
reader Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 We differ on my counts, Stevie, and this is just one more. When I go to a bookstore, books are arranged into categories like fiction and non fiction. About two-thirds of my selections are fiction and often authors I've read before. But if there was no distinction between the categories, I'd have no way of knowing whether I'm reading history, biography or fantasy. I don't think it's asking too much to expect the same here. As I said above, Sglad has talent but he seems to thrive more on deception than story-telling The deception obviously doesn't bother you so all I can say is happy reading! P.S. And yes, the thread has drifted off topic. Hopefully someone will some along and pull it back on track. bobsaigon 1
steveboy Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Things are different here Reader, and I'm sure as a reader you will realize it. Books in a bookstore have identifiable authors, publishers who can be held accountable for what they write. This is one reason they call a book about fantasies a fiction. And, as you say, you have the freedom to select fiction or non fiction. Here we are anonymous and we recognize and (at least implicitly) accept the lack of proper verification. I have no problem with this, and any Member has an associated uncertainty until I hopefully have the pleasure to meet the Member in person. Possible "deception"? Not even remotely as relevant as what is the standard in the political life of our countries. Are we able to separate fiction from non fiction in the statements by Donald Trump ?? But let's get back on topic.
Creditisdue Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 The thread has gone off topic long before the sglad diversion. And I'm another one of those differing with Stevie here. Nothing wrong with some embellishments here and there, but making up a whole fiction about oneself tends to make everything they write about them, not the topic. reader, a447a and bobsaigon 3
reader Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Books in a bookstore have identifiable authors....Here we are anonymous I hate to shatter your genteel sense of reality but we have user names (aka authors) here. This way we can distinguish between what posters write. Why don't you now take the opportunity to get us back on topic as you suggested.

Why don't you now take the opportunity to get us back on topic as you suggested. We don't have real author names. We have aliases. Or is "reader" what says in your passport and birth certificate? Your arguing each of my posts is holding up return to the topic. I don't mind but if you are so eager to return to the topic you will surely break the chain here and don't continue the discussion.
reader Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 We have a system of user names that has worked very well. It ceases, however, to work well when a poster uses more than one user name. BTW Stevie, I don't believe you helped Sglad's case when you brought Trump in as a comparison. But then again, it may not have been your intent to help him at all; you just seek the last word. But by all means please carry on...do you have sufficient rope? bobsaigon 1
vinapu Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 ...... too much coffee this morning it seems, already posting in the board twice in an hour. and we are glad you do, you are visibly on the roll in this thread
Guest samebb Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 BTW Stevie, I don't believe you helped Sglad's case when you brought Trump in as a comparison.Turning this towards politics is a very bad idea. I am not sure what the President of the USA has to go with anything on this board. If anyone does have a Make America Great Again cap though I would love to buy it from you!

The reference to Trump was for your thoughts, not Sglad's. You are the one who worries about fiction and non fiction... and I suspect this worry... is fictitious!
vinapu Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 But I think Christian finds it difficult to socialize and I'm guessing he really isn't interested in just chatting to someone, enjoying their company and then saying goodbye. If he expects every encounter to end in a fuck, he may not have a lot of success. I met Christian quite a few times , in bars , over the meals and even on a trip to sticks and canals and rest assured we did not have a problem to socialize , to chat and definitely only fuck we discussed was "Madrid Tavern pizza is fucking best in the world" so give him some slack. Sure , age difference helped, LOL Reading his honest accounts of BF hunts I think he is spreading himself to thin and in the process paying attention to irrelevancies like skin temperature etc instead of looking at internal beauty of prospective long term materials but at end of day , what do i know? Is it me....or has this thread 'drifted' a bit off topic... enjoy while it lasts , that's the beauty of gay forums, we just don't know when to stop
reader Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 The Madrid Patpong is great pizza. Read (on Stickman, I believe) it was a hangout for CIA and similar types during Vietnam era. paulsf and vinapu 2
Guest samebb Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Their burgers ain't bad either. It's one of those secret surprises in bangkok.

If I book a room in Nantra Silom, have breakfast at Foodland Patpong and off boy # 47 from Jupiter based on somebody's recommendation , what counts is if I met my expectancy , and whether recommending person was right based on personal experience , friend's account or just what he read on the some forum is secondary. Pretending to be different persona or even more than one person leaves very little to applaud but concern of some members about troll hunting and extermination sometimes sounds as just too much trouble to go through. steveboy 1
steveboy Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 But I think Christian finds it difficult to socialise and I'm guessing he really isn't interested in just chatting to someone, enjoying their company and then saying goodbye. Or joining in a game to get to know new people. If he expects every encounter to end in a fuck, he may not have a lot of success. It is to be expected that an experienced adult like Christian knows perfectly well why he is interested in engaging someone, and he acts accordingly. Here we don't deal much with the very wide variety of people we have friendship with, but mostly a narrow focused subset we want to have sex with. The encounters we discuss in this forum are the ones we want to end in a fuck (or at least in some passionate sex)

Is skin temperature so irrelevant? I agree with you about internal beauty. This is especially relevant to surgeons.
a447a Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 "While I cherish accuracy and honesty , more important is what people say than who and how is saying it." If the person giving out the advice or information is found to be "embellishing" his persona, not only here but on other boards, how reliable is he? How can his posts be taken at face value and believed? This is especially true of someone who purports to be young, Asian and a university student - something the majority here are not. Such a person's experiences would, in many instances, not be relevant to us. But unless members recognised him a fake, chances are they would believe him. Newbies, in particular, may face problems. In case you haven't noticed elsewhere, fraudulent members can create havoc on a board and severely reduce its reliability as a source of information. You have a few regulars, but then you get an entire group of posters who take over and run rampant, using the privilege of membership to have "fun" at the expense of others. Can't we just keep it real and get on with it? Is that too much to ask? bobsaigon and reader 2
Guest Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 This thread is so off Topic, locking it was long past due In the future if members want to have a back and forth in a thread , do it by PM instead. I have been lenient in the past but will be looking closer in the future to members who just want to have private arguments among themselves and take a thread way off course. Those members in the future will risk suspension! alex303, baobao, santosh108 and 1 other 4
