Popular Post eurasian Posted June 2, 2017 Popular Post Posted June 2, 2017 I love to read but do not like to write , particularly in English as that is not my native ... but decided to give a try sorry for the mistakes ... First day ... After having a wonderful trip in last July to Siem Reap , I was thinking of visiting Cambodia again and finally last week my plane ( Jetstar flight from Bangkok after a lovely week in Pattaya ) landed to Phnom Penh . A touristic visa valid for one month with a 30 USD fee was granted in 5 minutes and 10 minutes later I was in a taxi heading towards Rambutan Hotel . Due to the rush hour traffic ( 16.30 ) it took more than a hour to reach the hotel . Young taxi driver was very talkative and gave me a lot of information about corruption in Cambodia . I booked a penthouse at Rambutan for 3 nights through AirBnb thus through an agent named RoomFilla Cambodia Stays and received their confirmation . When I arrived to Rambutan there was a very nice welcome by very cute guys at front desk . For me Cambodia deserves Land of Smiles definition as much as Thailand . While drinking my welcome cocktail a guy from the front desk told me that a standard room has been reserved by RoomFilla for me not a penthouse . After showing them the reservation confirmation from AirBnb they tried to contact RoomFilla without success . Then the cute front desk guy called the Hotel Manager and after a short brief the manager wanted to see the confirmation e-mails from AirBnb . After reading and getting a copy of the e-mails this brilliant young manager ordered his staff to prepare a penthouse for me and told me that he will have some words to the agency RoomFilla Penthouse at top floor has a big room with a king size bed and a single bed and a very big balcony with a big big big jacuzzi ... Since 3 months I was chatting with a guy ( lets call him Nak ) from Planet Pomeo . He seemed to be a serious nice guy and I asked him if he can show me the city and gay nightlife , without hesitation Nak kindly accepted my proposal and at 18.30 he was ready to meet me at Rambutan . Dinner in a Cambodian restaurant and a long conversation about Cambodian history , him , me , his family , my family ... Nak is 28 years old ( I am 55 by the way ) but as a 7th child of a 8 children poor farmer family he is much more mature than his age . I liked this guy . Time for gay nightlife .. First stop was Toolbox , 6-7 barang ( means farang in Khmer ) 5 waiters and 5 dancers , nice and friendly atmosphere . Nak was known very well by most of the barangs and the staff . Second stop was Blue Chili ... wow .. Saturday night fever stocked with gay and some straight customers ... no seats available inside so we stayed outside with lots of other people ... Not surprised this time as many people coming to say hello to Nak ... but I am surprised when somebody said hi to me .. aha brilliant young manager of Rambutan , said cheers to each other and a small chat then he left to be with his friends . Nak was introducing me to many people and I do not remember how many drinks I had ... I was having great fun and suddenly I recognized a familiar face ... woow T.. from Jomtien and than another face , D.. , all cheered up and we started to chat . T.. permanently is back and D.. only for a short family visit . I introduced them to Nak . T.. wanted to spend the night with me and was a little bit jealous of Nak . Maybe as he was too pushy I did not say yes to T.. . Around midnight with a group of Nak's friends we left this nice bar . Third stop ... Heart of Darkness ... a gay friendly disco ... fully packed with people and lots of eye candy and maybe more ... dance drink dance drink and finally as expected I was drunk but I was very happy and keep smiling all the time . Around 2 AM Nak and his friends took me to Rambutan and after saying bye to all I welcomed sleep in seconds ... alone Tomorrow ... second day llz, Moses, vinapu and 8 others 11 Quote
farangyai Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 You do a great job writing so no apologies are necessary. I understood it better than some folks who are native English speakers haha! Thank you for posting. vinapu and eurasian 2 Quote
bobsaigon Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks for the report. Well done. Rambutan is my favorite, stayed many times, love the boys who work there. I wish I could be 55 again. Now I content myself with very pleasing memories of Rambutan and of the massage venues in Phnom Penh. Looking forward to the next portion of your report. kokopelli and eurasian 2 Quote
bobsaigon Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 And I agree with Farangyai. Some native speakers of English can be quite confusing, especially the ones who eat the northern version of boxty too often. eurasian 1 Quote
colmx Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 a timely trip report as BF and I just decided that we are going back to PP in late august... We were there in January and can't wait to go back... Popular Post eurasian Posted June 3, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted June 3, 2017 Second Day ... Sorrow and Joy ... I woke up at 9:30 and after a quick shower and shave went to the lobby . As I had a very good sleep on very comfortable king bed and pillows I was feeling fresh and full of energy . After ordering my breakfast we started to chat with always smiling cute waiters , they were so lovely . Breakfast was simple but satisfactory , cheese omelette with toast , fruit juice , tropical fruits and tea ... At 10.30 I saw Nak entering the lobby , just on time . He arranged a tuk tuk for our whole day tour ( 20 USD ) . First stop of our tour was the Killing Fields . On our way to Killing Fields I had the chance to see Phnom Penh better . Side streets with lots of garbage , bad smell , poor people living on the streets , very old and desolated houses but just next to them very nice condo buildings , luxury colonial houses and Range Rovers ... Condition of the roads is generally very poor , dusty . After 30 minutes we reached the Killing Fields . Nak was telling me that he is organizing some events through social media two three times in a month such as distributing food for poor people , cleaning certain areas of the city ... I really liked this guy , he is kind and noble . SORROW ... Humanbeing is the most cruel creature in the world ... From 1975 to 1979 Khmer Rouge led by Pol Pot ruled Cambodia . During this period Khmer Rouge killed one fourth of the population . The victims were doctors , lawyers , teachers engineers , artists and all other educated people and some people with slightly lighter skin color . Most of the victims have been tortured , killed and buried in these Killing Fields . So sad stories and I was so sorry to see this place . Second stop was Genocide Museum and again SORROW took place . A school used as a prison . Lots of photographs and illustrations showing the torture which poor victims faced . So sad ... In 1979 with the support of the UN , Vietnamese forces took control and Khmer Rouge leaders were sentenced to life long prison arrest . After that sad moments I was not feeling hungry , but as the weather was very hot and humid I was tired and thirsty .Nak took me to a cafe on the riverside which is near to our next stops , the Royal Palace and National Museum . A few snacks and a lot of drinks in an air conditioned place helped me to recover . Royal Palace and National Museum was not that interesting for me maybe as I have been to similar places in Siem Reap and other Asian countries . In National Museum I saw a booth selling Traditional Dance tickets , I purchased two tickets for next day . At 5 PM we went to the riverside to take a boat tour on Mekong River . One hour tour in a private boat for 15 USD , I think that was very cheap . When we finished the tour very dark clouds were approaching towards the city so hurried to meet our tuk tuk which was supposed to be waiting us on the riverfront , but no ... Tuk tuk was not there so Nak called him and unfortunately we understood that the driver found another customer and could not turn back on time to meet us . Rain started and we were not lucky , no tuk tuk no taxi ... in 5 minutes we were wet finally Nak found a tuk tuk , after taking me to Rambutan he went home to change his cloths . At 8 PM we went to an Italian restaurant just next to FCC . I like Mediterranean food so with some quite good red wine ( Shiraz ) we had a very delicious dinner . It was time for nightlife ... First stop was Pride of Phnom Penh ( POPP ) ... we were welcomed by a very cute young guy who greeted Nak very warmly , Nak introduced him to me , he is the manager and a very good friend of Nak . A few farangs were there one of them sitting next to us also know Nak so they started to chat . I learned that the guy was the owner of a gay friendly hotel and recentlly sold his business and will be moving to Central America to set up a new business there . The guy was talking about the problems he faced in Cambodia and maybe he complained too much maybe he said something improper which I missed , Nak became very upset . I asked for the bill and we left . We went to JOY ... JOY ... in other words Space Hair ... such a lovely bar ... actually a hair and beauty shop during the day a gay bar at night . I first heard about this place in Numazu's trip report to Cambodia . The owner is a Khmer guy and his partner and boyfriend at the same time a Spanish guy Xavier are lovely guys . The staff ( 6 ) , all were very good looking ... Numazu described them as Military guy , Cook , Muscle guy ( I could not understand who is Muscle guy as all of them are muscle guys and others ) ... Military guy was on demand that night , there were 3 other customers and 2 of them showed great interest on Military guy . Cook was a very funny guy ... I do not how may drinks I had that night , probably that was my record . As expected I was drunk but happy , full of JOY . Around 2 AM I was sleeping ... alone Tomorrow ... third day Alexx, paulsf, vinapu and 6 others 9 Quote

a447a Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Great report. Ah, the Space Bar! I've been there many times and have also written about it extensively in trip reports. Along with Hatha Khmer massage and Arthur and Paul Hotel it is a perfect reason to visit Phnom Penh. I checked out their website and recognised a number of guys, but I wonder how old the photos are. I saw Virak's photo and I would go back just for him if he's still there. Enjoy! eurasian 1 Quote
vinapu Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 All this sleeping alone, what's wrong with you? Lol eurasian 1 Quote
bobsaigon Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 As a447a says, there can be a “perfect reason” to visit Phnom Penh, depending on one’s expectations. It may require a bit more of an effort to find fun. In PP, there is nothing like a Soi Twilight, Boyztown or Jomtien Complex. But a visit to the bars and discos will present opportunities to invite someone back to your hotel. And of course there are the massage venues: Hatha Khmer (very well documented by a447a elsewhere) has the largest selection of “therapists”, but there’s Ganesh and Hero as well. The Other Boards also have several good, detailed reports about gay night life in Phnom Penh. eurasian 1 Quote

eurasian Posted June 5, 2017 Author Posted June 5, 2017 All this sleeping alone, what's wrong with you? Lol LOL ... Before visiting Phnom Penh I was in Pattaya for one week and had lots of companions , I needed that break . vinapu 1 Quote
Popular Post eurasian Posted June 5, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted June 5, 2017 Day 3 ... After having that much drink in Space Hair I was not expecting such an easy fresh wake up , no headache , thanks to my liver enzymes . I learned how important health is ... after suffering bladder cancer ( 23 years ago ) and heart attack ( 9 years ago ) . I usually do not drink too much , just a glass of wine few times in a week . If I drink too much then I prefer not to have sex that day . Nak arrived Rambutan just on time as usual and waited me to finish my breakfast . Today he arranged a car for our tour . First stop was Oudong City which is one hour away from PP . On our way we had a very nice chat with Nak , he is really a very nice guy , He just recently quit his job and immediately he got many job proposals . I was so lucky as he was free during my trip and kindly accepted to accompany me . Yesterday he told me that he accepted a proposal from a big company to work as a manager . Finally we arrived Oudong City ... Old buildings , temples on a hill .. you have to climb some stairs ...and as we climb I started to sweat , no breeze no air , very hot and humid ... after a while even Nak started to complain about the weather also ... soon we are all wet because of sweating ... We visited a temple which is named Thousand Buddha Temple , thousands of Buddha statues inside the Temple . As we started to go down the hill I saw a lot of garbage all around , Nak was so sorry about that . I told him maybe with his friends from social media they come to talk to the Chief of that region in order to get permission to train the local people how and why to keep the temples clean and maybe clean some parts of the area . He was a little bit desperate but told me at least he will try ... When we reached the base again there was a weak breeze which is surprising , it should be vice versa , breeze should be on the hill ... there was a food market with many shops located at the entrance , Nak purchased some fruits and snacks which were quite delicious . Next stops were Central Market and Russian Market . Central Market is for jewellery and Russian Market is for souvenirs . Russian Market is more interesting , no need to go to Central Market . Afterwards our taxi took me to Rambutan and Nak to his home in order to change our cloths . After a few hours rest we went to National Museum for the Traditional Dance Show ( one of the dances was famous Apsara Dance ) . Nice show lasted one hour . Nak proposed to have the dinner in FCC which is walking distance . Nice dinner , nice chat and we decided to have a drink at Blue Chilli . Probably as it was Monday night there was only one customer . Nak told me all other bars would be like that , no customers on Mondays . So I decided to turn back to Rambutan around 10.30 PM . We said bye to each other and Nak left . I will keep in touch with him , such a nice person . Another famous gay resort is located just next door to Rambutan ... Arthur and Paul ... and many Massage Boys ... After two days rest I needed a massage . A cute MB named Sowan caught my eye , some chat and I liked the guy . We went to my room in Rambutan and I had a really nice massage and extra service . Not that cheap , 70 USD . Next day around noon time I was flying to Singapore to catch the connecting flight to my hometown . During the flight I was planning my next trip to lovely Indochina and soon started to sleep ... on my dream I saw always smiling handsome Asian boys . worldatlarge, vinapu, traveller123 and 4 others 7 Quote
