NIrishGuy Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 If not used to their mobile site I can see why you'd say that as it is quite a shift from the old site ( which is still available should you prefer it I think) but like all things once you do get used to it it's actually not to bad and in fact if using both the mobile and the desktop site together it is quite handy just to think of everything in the one way and using the same icons etc. Quote
GWMinUS Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 HAHAHA, I am too old to learn New Tricks! OH did I say that?? Anyway, I like the Classic Layout on my PC and will stick with that. Cheers!! Now if I could just figure out how to use Facebook... Quote

Gaybutton Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Is it just me, or is anyone else totally confused by this new site ? You don't have to use their new site. You have the option of using the new site or sticking with their "classic" site. I too dislike their "new and improved site." What were we using before, old and crummy? In any case, if you prefer to remain with their "classic" site, the URL is: https://classic.planetromeo.com/ Quote
Alexx Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I'm okay with the new design on mobile devices, where they've been using it since quite a while. But I have to agree with what others wrote, for a PC the classic design looks much more suitable to me as well. Quote
JimmyJoe Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Not to mention, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to access escort profiles on the new and improved site. Inside Thailand escort profiles aren't used, but outside of Thailand, that's the important part of the site for me. Hoping they don't ever decide to unplug the classic version. Quote

Londoner Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one who finds the new format confusing. It seems modelled on hornet...and one of hornet's disadvantages is the lack of info on the guys. However, my impression is that the change has increased the numbers using it: there were times when I thought that its Pattaya "group" was becoming too small. I'll be sticking to the old Romeo; I find that having it on lap-top and hornet on my tablet works well in combination. Quote
Popular Post Gaybutton Posted May 31, 2017 Popular Post Posted May 31, 2017 I get annoyed at "new and improved" when I can't figure out what needed improving to begin with. Was there something wrong with their "classic" format that virtually cried out for improvement? I'm not particularly confused by their new site, but I too intend to stick with the "classic" site. That's what I'm used to and that's what I like. I can't find any aspect at all on their "improved" site that strikes me as any better than it was in the first place. I have a similar peeve in certain grocery stores. I finally get to know just where certain items that interest me are located, and then some schmuck who apparently has nothing better to do decides that all kinds of things need to be moved around. Now I can't find what I'm looking for when during my last visit I knew exactly where to look. Same for Planet Romeo. While I greatly appreciate the site and have met many wonderful boys because of it, when it comes to major changes and moving things around - you know - to improve the site, my first question would be "Who asked you to improve the site?" While we're at it, I would also want to know, "Who asked you to change the name from Gay Romeo to Planet Romeo? You did that for what?" Oh well - maybe we'll get lucky and the improved format will confuse the Pattaya boys so much that they'll all return to doing their farang hunting on the beach. As far as I'm concerned, that would be an improvement . . . fedssocr, ChristianPFC, vinapu and 2 others 5 Quote
Serendeputy Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Oh well - maybe we'll get lucky and the improved format will confuse the Pattaya boys so much that they'll all return to doing their farang hunting on the beach. As far as I'm concerned, that would be an improvement . . . I completely agree! Miss the days of meeting at the beach or in the disco. Guess those days are behind us. Gay Romeo must be feeling some competition from the other dating apps and have tried to change to have some of the similar location based services like Grindr. If it draws more Thai guys that would be a good thing since it's felt like it's been declining in popularity in Bangkok. I only use the Classic version too but they seem to have some aggressive software/cookies on my mobile that tries to move to the new version. Quote
pong Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 First thanks to khunlung GBT for pointing me the old-style site-I too was fairly confused as I hit the new one just after release. The prob with the old GR(its officially planetromeo) was indeed they lost a great deal of custom to the new smartfone-app styled hornet/grindr/jacked etc. In Its homebase Germany it was always strong-also for advertsing and gay places, but out of that country so maligned today by a mr. POTUS=tr (they are able export too much cars apparently to his country) , it was always 2nd rate. And yes, I too was indeed looking at 100s of possible working in Germany escort-style guys for soon to come visits. On to that: does anyone know about those other sites that do provide easy access to recognisable MBs-not in Thailand? Quote
Alexx Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Gaybutton, when they introduced the name PlanetRomeo as an alternative to GayRomeo, they did in fact explain why they did that. In certain countries, the term "gay" in the domain name attracted undue attention and led to it being blocked or users monitored. By renaming the site, they hoped to reduce the likelihood of such issues. ChristianPFC, kokopelli and vinapu 3 Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 By renaming the site, they hoped to reduce the likelihood of such issues. Thank you. That explanation makes sense out of it, although it does bother me that here we are in 2017 and there is still such a stigma attached not only to being gay, but the word gay itself. I'd like to live long enough to see the day when there is no longer any kind of stigma attached to gay at all. I believe that day will come. I also believe the day will come when indisputable proof of life on other planets is finally discovered. My only question is which day will come first. I hope I live long enough to see both, but somehow I doubt I'll live long enough to see either. Oh well, at least I now, thanks to Alexx, have an explanation about the name change. Quote
Guest Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I also dislike unnecessarily messing around with websites. There is a lot of it going on, whether it be banks, stockbrokers or gay dating websites. Planet Romeo does seem to suffer from all the mobile phone apps eating it's lunch. In many European countries, it seems to be losing out hand over fist to applications like Grindr. I don't like that much, but it is the reality. So maybe they consider it is necessary to fiddle around with their website. Quote
fedssocr Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Not a fan. Seems like change for the sake of change with no clearly articulated reason why. It's too much like a mobile app. What's the point of putting a mobile app on a desktop website? They have their own mobile app already - although you have to jump through some hoops to download because it's not on the official Google Play store Are they eliminating the escort listings and trying to reposition purely as a "dating" site? Quote
Alexx Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I guess from their point of view, they want to avoid having to maintain separate mobile and desktop versions of the site in the future. That's why the new desktop site resembles the look of their mobile site. I do understand that from a maintenance and cost cutting perspective, but as a user, I just don't think the mobile layout is very suitable for the desktop. One example: Swiping through photos works very well on my mobile phone, thanks to its touch screen. On my PC that's a pain with the new layout and using a mouse, you've got to click on a "next" arrow far out right. That just goes to show that you use a PC in a much different way than a mobile phone, and a user interface what works great on one platform might be a disaster on the other one. Quote
Londoner Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 The advantage of hornet (which I've only used this year after many years on GR/PR) is that communication is more or less instantaneous. Planet Romeo's message system I've found to be slow and unreliable. Is the new format better in this respect? Quote
Guest Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Are they eliminating the escort listings and trying to reposition purely as a "dating" site? The Escort section is one of the better features. That might not matter much in Pattaya, but elsewhere in the world, having the escorts separate from the regular dating crowd allows everyone to understand what the expectations of the other party are. Of course, as far as I know, it was never actually possible to view the escorts section via the phone app. So that section was already being marginalised. Quote
fedssocr Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 I sent them a note and they responded that the new site will eventually have all of the same functionality as the old one. So I take that to mean the escort section will still be around. It's only really all that useful in Europe in my experience, but that's still worthwhile. Quote
denny59 Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 The new site is goofy don't understand it at all..I always now click to the OLD site Quote
pennyboy Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 I also reverted to Classic as I could not work out how to scroll down the page. Quote
