sglad Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 I like the guy in the blue polo tee. I would love to lift his shirt up from behind as he's snapping that pic. Yikes, that would make me a shirt lifter! Thanks for sharing all the pics and info, GWMinUS. If you could generalise - and it would be a very broad generalisation - what differences in personality do you find between Thai and Filipino guys? And from your travels, how widely would you say English is spoken, especially away from the big cities? As in reasonably easy to understand, clear English. My experiences with Filipinos working in Sg is that standards vary widely. Quote

Sorry, that should have been "what differences in personality have you found between Thai and Filipino guys?" Quote
Dalewood Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 I do not remember what was being celebrated, but I have seen some parades in Manila where the guys were wearing a lot less than in these pictures :p Quote
GWMinUS Posted May 25, 2017 Author Posted May 25, 2017 I do not remember what was being celebrated, but I have seen some parades in Manila where the guys were wearing a lot less than in these pictures :p Well, I also love to see hard Filipino bodies!! Particularly the slim ones!! I think maybe it is simply because they do not get enough to eat. Or maybe because they have discovered the Gym?? (Another generalization) As to generalizations I find it easier to get to know a Filipino guy than a Thai guy. Most of my many friends in the Philippines speak good English. They learned it early in school. Their primary difficulty is with Prepositions. And I realize those are the bane of the English language. And they all have great admiration for the USA, more so than European Countries. I cannot say I have any close relationships there in Thailand. My one friendship was with a "Go Go Boy"; who is still working at BBB, but as a waiter. I helped him as much as I could get started in some other work. One endeavor was a Beauty Salon he and a friend opened up in Nonthaburi. Did not work out. As to his English, it was very limited. And that made it difficult for us to maintain a relationship. So I guess that is why I go to the Philippines rather than to Thailand. the relationships. Just hope the Phils Islands are not all under Martial Law by November!!! sglad and ChristianPFC 2 Quote

sglad Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Thanks for sharing your observations and experiences, GWMinUS. You sound like a generous and caring guy and I'm happy to hear that you've built great friendships in the Philippines. Is it really true that some of them do not get enough to eat? That's really sad if true in 2017. My mum went to a teachers' conference in Manila about 17 years ago and she said street urchins were waiting for her leftovers as she was eating at a restaurant?? Quote
GWMinUS Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 Well, my guys do not sit in the streets waiting for left overs. But what they have each day to eat is limited. Particularly for the guys you meet on PlanetRomeo. Most are looking for a Relationship and a person to love and support them... My long time friend there in Cebu City is part of a Family of 12 persons. And I do not think that includes all the nieces and nephews... It is a result I feel of the Catholic Church. The Govt does not make an effort at birth control. Instead the Dad's make the Sisters pregnant and then conveniently disappear!! Papa and Mom are left to support the daughters and their kids. And if you are the Son you are left to support Papa and Mama. It is also a result of the Contract System there in the Philippines. You can get a job but the contract is only for 5 months. And at the end of the Contract, the business will not renew it. If they do they are required to provide "benefits" So then you must go find a NEW job and pay all the Requirements again. Any endless cycle... there will never be a Middle Class in the Philippines. That is why many Filipino guys, and girls, try to find work overseas. I expect some in Singapore. In the Middle East there are also Contracts. But they are for 2 years. Maybe better... I realize this is getting far off topic. In general Filipinos are a happy people. They love their families. And enjoy their Festivals! Life is life... ChristianPFC 1 Quote
Alexx Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Very interesting, thanks for going into detail! Here in Bangkok, there's also quite a large community of Pinoys and Pinays working here - some officially, others less officially. Quote
sglad Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I realize this is getting far off topic. No, not at all. Thanks for giving us some background. Quote
reader Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 GWMinUS, thanks for telling us about your adventures in the Philippines. It's sad to see what is now happening in Mindanao that seems to echo what's been occurring in Thailand's south. If these movements succeed, we can expect more prosecution based on sexual orientation as we've witnessed in Indonesia and Chechnya. Quote
GWMinUS Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 YES, I am very worried about the ISIS fighters in Marawi. And as of today, 06/17, the fighting is going on. I think the Army will need to destroy much of the Business District to deal with the Maute. But my friends in Cebu City do not seem very worried. It is a conflict that does not directly touch their lives. I will say, I thought Pres Duterte would be more aggressive is dealing with the insurgence. But the word is he is very depressed and not able to make decisions. Leaving it to the Generals. HUM??? Anyway, my trip is still on for November. I fly to Manila, meet my guy from Cebu, and then we both fly to BKK for 6 days. He is SO EXCITED!!! I hope it all goes great!! Leaw pob gun mai... Quote
