Guest thrillbill8 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 With the "finer" "classier" restaurants in Pattaya, there is usually a 10% service charge and a VAT 7% charge added on to the meal; yet, I can go to other restaurants (I am not talking about the bars with food) and there are NO extra charges...it almost seems that if the restaurant is expensive, then they will also have a tax and a service charge. --I don't get it. Any sense to this set up? Quote
Guest wowpow Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I suppose that many good restaurants levy a Service Charge which may go to the staff all or in part. Levying the tax from prices is odd to Europeans though most shops in the USA levy it seperately. Why? Here in Thailand they seem to do what they like. Excluding these charges from menu prices strikes me as devious unless the fact that they do is made very obvious - it's often in small print. Quote
