Gaybutton
The following appears in the PATTAYA CITY NEWS: _____ Provincial Police Arrest Burmese Construction Workers in Jomtien In the early hours of Friday Morning, Police Colonel Sutat from Chonburi Provincial Police Headquarters conducted an operation in Soi 7 off the Tepprasit Road in Jomtien at a construction site campsite after he received information of illegal Burmese workers residing at the location. He assembled a team of officers and went to the location where he arrested 33 Burmese Nationals, none of which possessed a passport or work permit. They were taken to the nearby Dongtan Police Sub-Station on Jomtien Beach where they were processed. They will soon be deported back to Myanmar. __________ While that might not seem like much of a story, it raised my eyebrows because it is quite common to see stories about Burmese or Cambodian construction workers who enter Thailand illegally to work these jobs. While I feel sorry for these people, many of whom are only trying to survive through work rather than resorting to violent crime, and have wives and babies with them (see photos with the article at http://www.pattayacitynews.net/news_15_12_49_4.htm ), the problem, as I see it, is buildings are being constructed by people who have no skills whatsoever, other than common laborer skills. What that says about the quality of construction is frightening. Also, whenever I see these articles, it's always the workers being arrested. I never see anything about those who hire them being arrested. Why is that?
