Gaybutton
Last night some friends, my boyfriend, and I tried the News Cafe. We were absolutely delighted with it. It is a marvelous restaurant, fairly new, and the food was wonderful at very reasonable prices. It's a very pleasant, cordial, casual atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating available. They also accept reservations and, if this restaurant becomes as popular as I think it will, you'll need them. You'll find News Cafe in the same complex, just beyond Bruno's toward the beach, where you'll also find Gian's and Cuv
Guest wowpow
Gosh Gaybutton you were down below when I was up above in Cuvee. I looked at News Cafe at 7.15 and again shortly after 8. I didn't spot you - maybe too early there were over a dozen diners there.. Friends have mixed reviews on this place. Did you try the Elephant's Ear steak? I thought it might be rhyming slang for queer :-)
Gaybutton
I looked at News Cafe at 7.15 and again shortly after 8. I didn't spot you We were there from about 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. If you were facing the restaurant from outside, we were to the left at a table in the section that is slightly elevated. As a matter of fact the "Elephant Ear" is exactly what I had and I liked it very much. I'll be going agan soon with someone who is a mutual friend of ours. Perhaps you will join us. I hope so. Then you will be able to judge the reviews for yourself rather than relying on mine or the ones from your friends. What can I say? Different people have different tastes and are pleased or displeased by different things. I've been to restaurants that people have said are terrible and loved them. I've also been to restaurants that people have raved over and I wouldn't go back again if the meal was free.
Guest wowpow
I suppose it's worth mentioning that they don't accept credit cards and this is written clearly on the menu. Sorry I was unavailable last evening. I shall certainly make it to News Cafe soon. Is there anything in the name?
Gaybutton
Is there anything in the name? You know, I never even thought to pay attention or ask. I didn't see anything particularly noticeable to account for the name. Next time I go I'll take a closer look.

2lz2p
GB. Thanks for posting the menu. A friend recently tried the place and recommended it highly -- although he can be a bit finiky, we have similar taste in food. Also, from your recommendations of other restaurants I am familiar with, it seems we also share similar tastes -- so, now I have two reliable (for me) recommendations. I will certainly have to give this place a try sometime soon -- Since I dine out only once or twice a week, it will probably be after Christmas as I have already made plans for later this week (the American Rib place). Guest wowpow
Oh I always forget that when writing a message on this board I cannot pop off to another site to pick up information without the message being deleted. I was trying to check my memory. Was it the News Cafe South Beach Miami where Versace went for morning coffee and was shot on the way home?? Anyway I went there last evening at about 09.15 for a light supper. Friends had pasta and a glass of wine and I had a fillet steak sandwich and the total bill was under 800 baht. A very nice place and very comeptent cooking. I think a worthwhile addition to the local scene. I wonder how long these bargain prices will last? Gaybutton
You missed me again, Wowpow. Last night I was there again with a few friends, one of whom you know quite well. We enjoyed it very much again. We left about twenty minutes before you arrived. But I'm glad you enjoyed it too. By the way, News Cafe is also open for lunch. They open at 1:00 PM. Guest wowpow
Got it! News Cafe 800 Ocean Drive Miami Beach (305) 538-6397 $$ The News Cafe is more than just a cafe, it's a destination. For starters, it's smack in the middle of the hottest part of South Beach. Everyone walks by here at some point, to chat, eat or simply gawk. Tight-bodied rollerbladers whiz by. Models are strutting, their skinny legs up to here. People are taking pictures. Oh yeah, the News Cafe. News as in newsstand, with magazines and papers from around the globe. You can also buy film, postcards, maps and even t-shirts emblazoned with "News Cafe" on the front. News isn't just a destination, it's a cottage industry. As for the Cafe part, a darned good one it is, too. There's indoor and outdoor seating, but wait for a table outside -- there are plenty of 'em, and you usually won't wait more than ten or fifteen minutes for your very own. Once seated among the beautiful people, you can order some pasta, a juicy cheeseburger, a Caesar salad or an omelette. It's strictly a light cafe menu here, yet the kitchen turns out these standards remarkably well. And you can come to News Caf
Gaybutton
Oh I always forget that when writing a message on this board I cannot pop off to another site to pick up information without the message being deleted. Actually, yes you can. Give this a try next time: when you are on one web site, go to the top left of your screen and click on FILE. Depending on the browser you're using, the pop-up menu that will come on screen will have a selection that allows you to open a new window. If you select the option to open a new window, that's exactly what will appear on your screen . . . a new window. You can use that new window to access other web sites. The window you had been working with will still be there when you're done.
Gaybutton
We went to the News Cafe again a couple of nights ago, this time five of us, and again we all greatly enjoyed it. While we were there two more friends entered and said they came because they read the review I posted here. Today I was at the beach and ran into them. They both said they like it very much and went a second time, this time with their Thai boyfriends. The boyfriends also enjoyed it. One of them highly recommended the "toast skagen," item number 2 on the menu as an appetizer. I'll be sure to give it a try next time I'm there, which will be soon, for sure. This restaurant is quickly becoming a "must" on your list of places to eat when visiting Pattaya.
