Day 6

 

Since today I’m not travelling far I had chance to eat proper breakfast, not baguette with beer variety.

 

Sophea, the driver and his tuk-tuk appeared at 8 on the dot as agreed, unfortunately he was wearing new jeans , no longer sexy knees in sight. First step  was to go to the Angkor ticket office, despite of crowds process was very efficient and in no time I was proud holder of 40 $ ticket bearing my photo taken on the spot and valid for 3 days of the next 7 including today.

 

Today I wanted to see some temples I missed last time. First Western Menon on the small island in the middle of Angkorian artificial lake called Western Baray. Those who visited National Museum may recall enormous bronze statue of Vishnu coming exactly from that temple.

 

 

Lake is slightly north  of the airport so some distance from the city and I couldn’t believe Sophea when he told me that in dry season he can cross it on his motorcycle but soon I got a proof of it on the photo. Now, fresh after rains lake is filled and only way to get to the temple was to rent  a boat for 25$ , price I found quite a steep but forked money regardless. After few minutes we landed in the island where I was disappointed to discover that temple is being in process of reconstruction and only thing we could do was just to walk around the fence. Nevertheless it was pleasant walk with nice breeze coming out of  water expanse.

 

 

Walked around the market at landing but all goods were more or less the same offered in Siem Reap proper.  

Then we set off to the south of the city where on the hill looming over Tonle Sap lake there’s another temple I missed last time- Phnom Krom. I could hire a moto to  get to the top but decided to walk up instead, pretty steep walk with zillion of stairs but Mt Everest it is  not and in about ½ hr. I was there.

 

Good idea I secured ticket as I was asked for it right away. View from the temple is great and at this time of year full of water and greenery. Temple itself if located somewhere else will be magnet for tour buses and thousands of visitors but with such proximity to the Angkor Wat  , downgraded  to second tier status it was eerily quiet.

We returned to the city several km to the north just in time for lunch. It turned out that Sophea has some other clients to drive to the airport      but will be free after so I suggested I will hire him for afternoon trip to some less visited  temples in proximity of Bayon.

We lunched close to those people’s hotel and then it turned out they don’t mind at all if I go with them to the airport which saved us some time and environment some burned fuel.

 

On a way we exchanged with his passengers our  Angkor impressions and it turned out we visited each other’s cities in the past.

Straight from airport  we went to Ta Keo temple. I was there last time but it is in vicinity of Ta Nei I missed and wanted to walk from one to another but Sophea found such an idea so strange and insisted to drive me there that I gave up. To his credit I must say he sensed that I was not what I wanted   and let me walk whenever I wanted on other days.

To complete set of temples with ‘Ta’ in name , last one I visited was famous Ta Prohm, most photogenic of all Angkokr temples , one consumed and taken over by enormous trees.

It was already darkening when we arrived at the hotel, another great day this trip but little I knew. We agreed for another trip in two days  and I lost sight of his bread shoulders till tomorrow.  

 

I decided to try another massage place today BARCODE.

 

Located at river end of  Party Alley , extension  of Pub Street, opposite to a wat . There’s bar on a ground floor and few well appointed  massage rooms upstairs. It looks that they also have a rotation system but boy who was supposed to be first in line was missing ,  guy on duty  tried to find him for a moment but said if “you like me , you can take me”. I did as he was tall and fairly well built so why not ?.

 

Price structure the same like Blue Hatha. Massage on a table, again 1.5 hr. course taken for 20$, showered alone which seems to be Siem Reap standard. Massage boy in briefs but after a while I found  he is not far from my wandering hands. Noticing my interest asked ‘ you like my cock? You can have it whole night tonight if you like’. Certainly proposal worth careful consideration and after whole 5 seconds of deliberations my  answer  was  firm : ‘sure’.

 

No need to say massage session at this moment was terminated and since narrow massage bed was not conductive to getting to know each other better we decided to continue in my room. Off fee was 5 $ only , I guess so cheap because I already paid for massage.

 

Off we went picking up some street food on our way to a hotel where we were greeted by knowing smiles of owner and few tourists  congregated   in the lobby but days where I would be embarrassed by such attention are mercifully long gone.

 

After few night alone finally great company and ton of sleepless fun tonight. Upon learning that in the morning I’m taking trip to very remote Prasat Bakan he asked if I think he can go with me done very tactfully I’d say “can I go with you tomorrow if you want /” to which I agreed happily. On top if his tip for massage and visitation I gave him reasonable 10 $ for off fee for tomorrow and let him go a bit earlier at his request so he could pick up fresh clothes. Day 6 was over with both of us smiling.

Day 7

 

Today’s destination was , even for Angkor standards very exotic. Preah Khan in Preah Vihear province, not to be mistaken with the same named temple in  Angkor Wat vicinity. Called also Prasat Bakan or Preah Khan Kompong Svay is least accessible of Angkorian temples located more or less in the middle of nowhere although by mileage / 150 km/ not really that far from Some Reap.

 

I’m grateful and forever will be that Sareth from Siamroads  found  the driver, Malla who was in the place already and knew how to get there, otherwise logistics of organizing such trip  will be a bit complex.

 

Malla did not even blink an eye when I announced that we will have an additional passenger whom I seated at the front seat to avoid potentially embarrassing caressing although later on we provided him with an opportunity for a discreet smile with stolen hugs or embraces .

 

Since we did not have a breakfast , we stopped at the same place for baguette sandwiches and in the next village for a beer which in tropics goes with breakfast for me.

 

After hour on National Highway 6 we turned into dirt track but surprisingly leveled so ride was quite smooth. Reason for that was huge rubber tree plantation we crossed after few dozen kilometers. After that road become rougher but still not bad as for supposed nowhere with small villages here and there.

 

It took good 3 hrs. to get to the temple and it was immediately obvious that we are only arrivals so whole area was just for two of us as Malla decided to stay at the car. I paid an admission of 5 $ to  a guard and ticket , while not fancy will be still perhaps most  cherished souvenir for me of the whole trip.  

 

After crowds of other places it was soothing to be able to wander through such vast and eerily quiet greenery dotted with ruins all over the place. It was tempted to explore everything but is such a quite place in the middle of the jungle possible  appointment with the snake was never far from my mind.

 

 

Mercifully we did not have such a case. My boy was as happy as me to get there  and mentioned that several times ,  no wonder as width of trails certified that visit here is a  rare treat.

 

 

Only trouble was that in such an environment it was tempting to get a bit intimate with my companion but I decided to behave as a temple , even ruined is still a temple so I decided not to abuse situation as a compensation asked him to return to my room in the evening with wide smile certifying it was rather expected.

 

From there Malla took us through another stretch of dirt tracks in the countryside back to civilization to explore another , now former, remote and unique temple –Koh Ker.

 

Main structure there is a pyramid which looks like taken straight from Mayan sites in Central America. Before we climb there I treated us with dinner and while very tasty I was a bit surprised how costly for Cambodian standard it was  ( 6 $ /person ) but I guess remoteness of place and yet it’s growing popularity made desire to cash in.

Originally  we have another place to visit today but it was getting late and I have no desire to speed out just to make sure a plan was executed so I told Malla just to drive by and I get a way of getting to Bang Melea, temple in question on another day.

 

It was our  longest day and we arrived in Siem Reap well after the dark.

 

Thanked Malla for helping me to obliterate childhood dream destinations, boy went home to freshen up and eat something with promise to return soon and in 2 hours we were together again.

 

Tired after sleepless last night and long day of travelling we retired to the bed in happy embraces, but no,  we did not sent whole night just sleeping, just a little bit. And this is how day 7 was over.

Day 8

 

I kind of realize that for many this trip report , full of old stones and short of young men is boring but for a sake of accuracy of relation I just soldier on.

 

In the morning my boy left with my promise to call him over tomorrow as I had some other  hopes for tonight. There was some problem with breakfast supplies in the hotel so I had one on the street and shortly after my handsome tuk-tuk driver showed up , again in the untattered jeans,  for another tour. Originally Sareth was supposed to guide me for today’s tour but he fell sick and e-mailed me he will not be available so I went alone. Today’s goal –walk around the wall of Angkor Thom , city of the center of which temple of Bayon is  located.

 

So for Sophea, the driver is was easy, he dropped me at South Gate , got few dollars for drinks , was instructed to wait there in 4 hrs and I set off for very pleasant , almost whole way in shade , stroll on the top of the wall. Very few tourists there , some locals clearing bushes, very quiet and peaceful  walk literally minutes from hordes crowding ancient sites. If I ever be back and I’m sure I will this will be my first thing to do , perhaps in reverse order.

 

Recommended for those who are tired of crowds as it easy to do and easy to break at any time by asking driver to wait at the next gate where one can make a decision to continue or abandon.

Today I walked clockwise and it took leisurely 3 hrs. and 35 minutes. Wall for most part is in excellent repair with moat underneath with only few crumbled stretches  .

There are 5 gates with South,  North and Victory ones through a lot of traffic passes and West and East  ones very quiet with only dirt road going through. In every corner there are ruins of small temples, almost unheard of and not visited . If they were somewhere far from  Angkor each of them will attract tour buses and local authorities would by trying to get UNESCO interested in them.

After I returned waking Sophea up we went to Banteai Samre, another temple not as popular and in quite of distance from Angkor proper. Well now , not quite, 15 years ago  when there I saw only other couple , my driver then was there for  the first time and I don’t recall  much an infrastructure .

Now it was quite full of visitors , way to the temple crowded  with souvenir stands and few , again expensive for Cambodia , restaurants  across the road where we had a lunch after  exploration. From there to Ta Som , my favourite of all Angkor temples ,

then to Prasat Krol Ko , rarely visited, even if it’s almost across the road from popular Neak Pean,  and then to one of big 5  of Angkor temples – Preah Khan / the same name as one visited yesterday /. She is famous for library , structure which almost looks like Roman building.

 

 

As you noticed perhaps, I’m trying to see places which are less crowded and perhaps less known but this is what I came here for this time. I did big stuff already 15 years ago and considering 4-5 fold increase in number of visitors , I’m glad I did.

 

Booked Sopeha for tomorrow’s trip to Bang Melea , temple I skipped yesterday for lack of time and as evening set off I went to MEN for a massage with a bit of hope for more hence I gave my Barcode boy night off tonight.

 

MAN,  is man only resort hidden in small alley close to Wat Polanka, kind of hard to find but if one follows maps from their website is not really that difficult to get there. From main street National Highway 6 there small alley with sign “Man” and it’s really short walk from there. Tuk-tuk drivers apparently all know the place and it may be the truth because first one I hailed close to my hotel knew it.

 

I went there with very high expectations as very name ‘Men’   says it all. Very classy place with prices to match, price structure the same like in LINGA 20/26 $  for 1/1.5 hr session. I was assigned boy, very , very good looking , not tall but God-like muscular so I was hoping for plenty. On the way to a massage room glimpsed amenities, pool, gym , few patrons, one with boy beside.

 

 Showered alone , massage on the table with well, boy in singlet and briefs and he stay that way for the whole 1.5 hr. course. Not even once  hint was given that fun other than just a massage may  be available so I had just that- very good professional massage by extreme eye candy but that’s it. Left 30 $ tip which considering circumstances was probably too generous but truth is I liked massage.

 

Can’t even say I was disappointed, not at all. I guess last few very intensive days and few night as well did me in. Wandering  leisurely through  Siem Reap center, I went to the hotel, collapsed on the bed and my day 8 was over.

This is particularly valid question at Prasat Bakan which is on the plan , far from any mountains - where the hell stone was coming from?

 

As for visiting with locals - this time it was perfect  but often there's danger that we will be looking at places through their eyes.

 

As for me , I'm always very well prepared before I visit any place or country but locals are always  best in handling  logistics.

 

I know that without Sareth's help it would take extra day or two to organize Prasat Bakan or Preah Vihear tours.

In my younger years I climbed few hills , mountains and high Himalayan passes , some overnight,  to see sunrises so I consider I did my share of admiring that section of nature's beauty and bother no longer.

Exploring ruins is my other favorite pastime    and really I don't blend those two.

 

I thought tittle will be catchy enough and accurate considering that I returned to Thailand after Cambodia part.

 

Saunas, discos, beaches and Silom soi 4 are not my hunting grounds.

Day 9

Today another ruins infested day. Two day ago I had Bang Melea temple about 60 Km from Siem Reap  scheduled but as you recall I skipped it due to running late. Since that is probably most accessible out of remote Angkorian temples , with tours easily booked through Siem Reap agencies it made sense but after talk to Sophea the Driver he suggested we go there by his tuk-tuk.

 

I was sold on idea immediately , more fun and he quoted me a reasonable 30 $ for such a trip , more or less what tour would cost.

 

We left at 7, again stopping at the same baguette place I did few days ago for our breakfast fill.

I was calculating that if we arrive at 9 it will  be empty and quiet there  but it was not a case due to 2 busloads of Chinese already in screaming  to the high heaven.  Mercifully temple area is vast but clearly to put it mildly their behavior did not indicate any veneration to the ancient structure they were exploring. On another hand I credit them with rising early and they seem at least to be interested in the structure,  poking  and climbing everywhere , just like me.

 

 

It looked too that souvenir sellers did well with them. Having no shame I must admit that after 6 days of exploring I felt a bit of templed out and I have an impression so are readers of this thread ! .

 

Early afternoon we were back in Siem Reap , agreed for a last tour tomorrow morning as I wanted to visit Angkor Wat itself on my way to the airport.

 

Yesterday morning  I told my boy from Barcode that probably I will need his company tonight, we even exchanged e-mail addresses so I could confirm but I left it at that perhaps acting a  bit assholish  yet knowing fully I will invite him back.

 

Rest of day spent wandering through the markets, I went also to the new Angkor Museum , quite interesting but steeply priced at 12 $.

 

On my way back I just step by Barcode , went up , asked for my boy and told him to be in my room at 9 p.m. It was perhaps best thing I did this trip as  going down the stairs I heard his loud scream of joy and when he appeared on the balcony to wave at  me  he was all smiles. It must be my internal beauty  which caused that,  I’m sure.

 

Lazy wandering again till time to return to the hotel and shortly after knock to the door led to reunion with familiar , handsome, smiling, smooth  and sweet embraces. Cambodia kissed me good night in style and day 9 was over.

Regarding sunrise/sunset, i really enjoy taking pictures of sunset, more than sunrise as it requires much less effort and is often as stunning. My best and most expensive sunrise would be the one i took in borobudur temple in yogya with a view of Merapi volcano on the background. Whenver i travel, i usually try to at least get 1 sunset viewing area, usually up in a hill that gives a good panaromic view of the city. Needless to say, some day the sunset are just amazing while other days it is just like a view in my house lol

Its not expensive per se, but compared to entry fee to other places in indonesia, borobudur temple @monohara is the highest (around usd30) and u can only enter during sunrise through the hotel. The normal entrance during other times is lower.

Day 10 - still in Cambodia

 

We parted our way early as both of us were leaving Siem Reap today, each own way though. I packed my suitcase and at 7 was ready for Sophea. Since we both were hungry I treated him with a breakfast in one of restaurants near Angkor Wat and left him there taking my stroll to the structure.

 

Despite morning there were tons of visitors already everywhere , what a contrast with all places I visited so far this trip . Last time I was only one to climb to highest level of temple , now there’s huge lineup and number of visitors limited to 100 at the time so I gave up since I allowed myself only 2 hrs. sightseeing there and posted wait was 1 hr. 

 

 

Angkor Wat is so huge that there is plenty to explore anyways and even those hordes present dispersed somehow but I could only imagine scene few hours later when tour busses  will arrive.  Hordes or not , this is immensely impressive building  , one of those ‘must to visit’ places even for very casual tourists.

 

 

Cambodia’s part of my trip is over and  I’m leaving with sense of accomplishment with list of my places to visit worldwide drawn many , many years ago waiting at home to be run through shredder  upon my return. I’m glad to see my second most favorite country making great step forward over last 15 years and I don’t mind that outcome of that is  rise in prices here and there.

 

Time to  say good bye and thank you to my handsome driver, aesthetics were just a bonus as he was reliable and fun to be with . Checking in and flight were non-events and at 1.pm. I landed in Thailand for 15th time.

I always had aspirations to travel and see some of the sights, particularly as my early career was in (UK) archaeology, but I always seemed to get so easily distracted by the bars, agogos and massage shops of Pattaya (although I have seen plenty of 'sights' in those).

 

I love your engaging, descriptive writing style that draws the reader in making it an easy and pleasurable read.

Day 10 -back in Thailand 

 

There were complains about immigration in Don Muang but everything went without glitch , in fact I was still waiting for my luggage at carousel.

 

Not knowing train timetable I still decided to cross the highway to the railway station / use the same walkway leading to the Amari Airport hotel /. Sun shone on me as in few minutes train from Surin rolled into platform and 5 baht, 50 minutes later I was at Hualampong, not much later back in Nantra Silom where I decided to check my e-mails on computers in the lobby.

 

By sheer chance few  minutes later Xiluzer , our member appeared with his 2 friends.  I knew they arrived few day ago and will be staying in the same hotel  but we did not make any arrangements other than promise to contact each other when I arrive in BKK.

 

As it’s kind of routine for us that when we are in Bangkok at the same time we go to HERO that was a goal for today we immediately set in. I’d say very fittingly as all 4 of us were there on the  day of their closing back in June. By coincidence it turned out we can be there just a day after they re-opened.

So I settled in my room and hour or so later world saw us stopping taxi and setting off to the place.

 

Week ago I was there and had my doubts if they manage to open as rumored in few days by workers  speed up and managed. So we have now My Hero, all new and smelling fresh paint , with similar formula with boys behind the glass trying to draw out attention. Since it just opened , not much traffic but there were other clients  as well.

 

Number of boys lower than in days of old but certainly enough to pick somebody suitable, muscular and fit. Mamasan recognized us right away , welcome hugs and then a bit of sticker shock. Cost of oil massage shown as 1400 /hr. but immediately promotion of 20% off announced but it still is 1120. Minimum tip the same like before at 1000 hr.

 

I did not see any familiar faces  but saw quite a few ones I like so soon Was marching to the room escorted by muscular hunk, exactly type I like there and everywhere.

 

Room spiffy and elegant only thing missing were hooks or something to hang clothes on but this is fixable.

Shower together, massage firm and strong although as usual at Hero a bit rushed, nevertheless enjoyable and for good reason – boy seemed actually to like my carcass. So we had good fun, tip 1300. Hey,  in my age it’s nice to hear profession that I have nice body and see hard proof this is  a case, LOL so I forked 300 extra.

 

 

We spent a little bit of time  there as my friends weren’t as fast like me with their choices so while waiting for them to finish , it was interesting to see comings and goings.

We returned to the hotel the same way , parted our ways with promise to meet later on at Jupiter.  

 

In meantime I treated myself with chicken with cashew nuts in Oasis  and straight from there I went to soi Twilight where I found Paulsf and DivineMadman  chatting as expected in Hot Male beer bar. I joined in for a round of news sprinkled  with my favorite drink  Vinapu Classic containing 50% of gin and 50% of gin.  From there  across the street to Jupiter where Xiluzer and his crowd were warming seat for me.

 

We watched  the show and their assembly of boys is truly eye candy. Apart from #20  and Mekhin there’s new star  # 47 and xiluzer had an eye on him but if turned out that he was already booked  tonight. At least I could shake his hand since for a moment he was sitting between Xiluzer and me so he made good impression not only on my friend but on me as well.

 

I liked face and body of  #42 as well and made promise to myself that I need to finish boycott of offing boys from Jupiter but it looked that not yet. I was in bar till emptied but left alone with firm resolve that it will not be a case next time.

 

Upon return to soi Twilight I saw Paulsf and Madman still there chatting so joined in for  a moment and then went to Fresh Boys  as I had designs on # 28 previously , another twink to be added to my collection this trip – firecat, take note please, LOL.

He was there , I ignored mamasans as usual claiming I like the girls better and promptly called boy over.

 

Why I liked him ? Certainly not for body mass but I guess facial expression was what drew me to him before and today as well. Not available long time , at least not tonight , my only night in Bangkok so I gnashed my teeth and agreed for short time,  in meantime we had chat over drink and he suggested I will take also his bar friend smiling at me from the scene. Older , taller boy with supposedly biggest cock in the bar in words of my boy, later confirmed as it turned out.

 

I was not in the mood for crowded bed but what I liked was that boy stood for his friend in  a contrast with my first night at Tawan weeks ago if you recall. Hell , it’s only 1500 more so let’s go and see what happens.

 

On our way from soi last and farewell hughs with Paul who will be leaving before I return from Pattaya and through Patpong boys and me marched to the hotel where I asked for an additional towel on reception for 100 baht extra. They are easing up on charges because last time it was 200.

 

In the room boys proved that it was great idea to take both of them. Not only I had fun with them but what even more important they had fun with themselves and to put it mildly they put together nice show for me. We even managed to scheme substantial role changing  than originally  prescribed.

 

Sometimes we are chasing stars forgetting that ordinary looking boys can be more personable and much more fun than their shining but jaded co-workers. It was pure fun to be with them that night and surely tips were upped a bit.

 

They left me alone but it was my fault as other boy would be available to long time had I told him in the bar. From what I understood he had somebody waiting for him to  go home together. There’s always next time  and with those two I hope it will. So my day 10 was over with me sleeping alone but going to bed with laugh. Still smiling typing that.
