kokopelli Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Actually went to Jomtien the other day and had very good food at a newer Italian restaurant and then a good time at 2 Donna Bar which is now gay. Quote
Guest ryanasia Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Certainly I understand going to be with your BF and I am quite sure you would continue to come if the Gay scene was muted. Also I took the question to be more about GoGo Bars rather then massage parlors or Beer Bars which in reality are already underground. I doubt very much if your BF was in Bangkok you would seldom if ever go to Soi Twilight to socialize (at least in GoGo Bars) and yes you would probably go to Silom Soi 4 which of course would continue to exist.. Naturally nobody here wants the Gay Scene to become muted but unless Thai officials closed all the non Go Go Bars and massage parlors that will never happen. And the question was if it was muted would you continue to come and I am guessing most will continue to visit as long as boys are available. Massages are part of Thailand fabric so I can't see them ever going away just like I can't see Bars, Discos etc ever to be banned. GoGo Bars on the other hand could easily be driven out of business by the Government. The scene would become more like Jomtien or Soi 4 . In the spirit of the question a place like Jomtien Complex would be gone because it is host bars. Soi 4 would remain as it isn't really a place for commercial sex. It doesn't really matter though as the question is hypothetical. So it seems after going through a good sampling of responses most people would still come. Although it seems like that many respondents would still come on the condition they could hook up via alternative methods than the bars. A few have mentioned they have boyfriends already so they are already good for sex. So the availability of sex still stands as a big reason to come even if it isn't from gogo and host bars. Somewhat interesting the lack comments mentioning tourism sites such as ruins, temple and beaches being brought up as reasons people would still come. Most of the conversation centers around how people would go about hooking up online and not what people come to Thailand for other than sex. Was expecting a bit more of a dialogue into other reasons people come here. It is clear the majority of posters would still come here and that Thailand has a good level of loyalty. Quote

Coming here to be with a boyfriend may not be all about sex.! Yes, want to be with the bf but, at same time, enjoy the club and beer bar scene. As for temples and ruins, couldn't care less although Pattaya is somewhat in ruins! Quote
Guest abang1961 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Let us be brutally honest with ourselves. I visit this beautiful country for her people and the cost. As much as I prefer a Western farang, where on earth where it is Safe to hire an escorts for such a low fee? I'mean there may be other interesting places to go but the availability of casual guys (at an inexpensive rate) is something that cannot be overlook... Quote

Not quite sure the Beer Bars or as you call them Host Bars would face extinction at least in any initial crack down.. I know a number of Beer Host Bar owners and anything they pay the police is minuscule compared to GoGo Bars where boys dance with little or no clothing etc and are easy to prove they are open for Sex only. Of course they could close everything massage parlors , host bars , GoGo Bars and then find tourism tank, I just doubt it! Quote

I could have put more effort into finding better wording for that post. I also didn't mean the tone to be negative about people coming to Thailand for sex. There is nothing wrong with that and it is actually refreshing to have an online place such as this where people need not be defensive about this aspect of it. Quote

Speaking as one individual, I must say that I really enjoyed visiting the beaches and temples of Thailand, and they are part of the reason I have come several times. When choosing a holiday destination I aim to have both gay fun and see the World's best sights - hence going to places like Berlin, Barcelona and Thailand where it is possible to have both. Another important aspect from a "conventional" tourist point of view is the handiness of Bangkok as a hub for for a western Europeans heading East - I have use Bangkok as a hub on trips to Laos, Cambodia, Bali, etc, as much because it was the cheapest and handiest as because it enabled me to have a few nights of fun in BKK on the way. vinapu and DivineMadman 2 Quote
firecat69 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Many of the responses are different because of trips and days spent in Thailand . I have been visiting Thailand for 15 years . Lived there for 2 1/2 years . Most of the other years I spent between 90- 180 days in Thailand. I have seen all the temples etc that I ever want to see. Thus when I visit now and for quite some time it is because of cute boys and cheap Sex. I also visited many other Asian countries and Australia and New Zealand on trips to Thailand. When I decided not to move there permanently it was because I like everything I have in the USA much better except for the cheap sex. I have a far nicer condo for a lot less money then something similar would have cost me in Thailand. Far better roads. Although I enjoy Asian food , I like western food better and it is much better and cheaper in the USA. I am now on Medicare so my heath costs are much less then they would be in Thailand. Thailand however sells many drugs at a lower price. I live inAtlanta and like the weather much better overall. It is an individual decision for everyone and my visits have now started to slow down as I enjoy seeing other parts of the world. I'm pretty sure there will be cheap `sex available for many years in some form and when I feel the need I'll endure the 26 hours in silver tubes and return. Quote
Guest ronnie4you Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Some may remember that I have posted about coming to Thailand since 1987. It is my opinion that it is not what it used to be. Now it is more western, more sophisticated, more about money, and quite simply, more crowded. But if your first experience was in 1997, or 2007, then you might think things have not changed so much. I have also, in the interim, discovered Brazil, and it is a strong competitor with Thailand as a destination. But I think things continue to change in Thailand. Politically people are much more adept and aware. The military government shows no signs of going away. The King is very ill. More changes are definitely in the works. Will I keep coming here? It gets less likely, but no one will notice but me. Quote
Travellerdave Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I have been visiting Thailand now for some 15 years and have very much enjoyed about 30 visits mainly to Pattaya. Before I spent my holidays in Playa des Ingles on Gran Canaria, Spain. There are few rent boys there but I had plenty of sex especially from encounters on the gay section of the huge beach. The weather is great there throughout the year, it's not expensive and is only 4 hours by air from my home. Why do I go to Pattaya then ?. In two words - Thai Boys. If they were not available and inexpensive I would cease my visits. In my opinion Pats has detiorated in the 15 years as regards gay sex tourists like me, and it's much more expensive for Brits in particular ( Now 43 baht = 1 pound Ugh !). Quote
vinapu Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 people coming to Thailand for sex. There is nothing wrong with that I'd say , not only nothing wrong but a lot of good when one considers how much money sex tourists are leaving in Thai economy and size of their smiles when they start planning next trip Quote
vinapu Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 ( Now 43 baht = 1 pound Ugh !). enjoy while it lasts Alexx 1 Quote
