kokopelli Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 On professional or high-traffic boards, I'm sympathetic to the complaint that derailing threads causes a waste of time and energy to those readers specifically interested in certain topics. But here? Please! It is basically the virtual equivalent to a coffee house, where we meet like-minded people to have conversations with them. One thing leads to another, our experiences and views are all over the place, and I think it's a blessing that this board isn't over moderated. Long may it last, I say! I do agree with you Alexx and would not want to see this board go the way of another where anything off topic fun becomes verboten. But cannot have serious replies to what was meant to be a serious post turn into a free for all. Well, at not least until the seriousness finally turns to silliness. Humbug to Einstein and his puzzle; probably he never made that thing up! Phet 1 Quote

Guest 2guys Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Bit bad that so many topics end up being the OP getting scolded at for no reason. Not only this topic, but happens a bit to often. I think cdnmatt is trying to teach the boy something and does it on a very nice and friendly way. That the boy does help with some household task seems more than normal to me as he is living in. And the boy seems to enjoy his stay, so what's the problem guys? Glad the boy does show interest in you teaching him, keep in mind it will go slow but keep up trying and teaching even if it means you sometimes need to push him a bit to go on. It's not always easy but when things went well it will be very rewarding to see the end result. Quote
Guest ryanasia Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Just do the best you can for him and ignore these people. There was no reason to fight about it. Quote

I doubt that most electricians here even know the difference between volts, amps , watts and ohms. As for needing a clay lot turned into a beautiful yard well, my bf could use your expertise one of these days. He lives near Roi-Et so not so far from KK. Quote

ChristianPFC Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 German owes a fish? I thought ChristianPFC has a cat , not fish I don't have cat, but my parents have. I can barely take care of myself, and am away for traveling often. I once tried keeping a plant in my room and failed miserably. Albert Einstein was German so natural this the answer to his puzzle was another German. It was another Austrian physicist, Schrodiger, that had a cat. Christian owns a chicken, a cock and cdnmatt owns a dog. Chicken? Cock? I don't get it. Back to the op. Most of the Thai boys I know are stupid and/or lazy, no amount of schooling or money can help. To intercept accusations of racism, I take all blame and say this is the company I keep / the kind of people I attract, and not representative of the rest of the population. But every now and them I come across someone who is intelligent and determined and just had a poor start in life, and if I were in a position to help him (with either money or contacts) I would do so without expecting anything in return. I once invited a boy for sightseeing and gave him 1000 Baht (no sex involved) at the end of the day. We were far away from his place and he was new to Bangkok. So I took out my Bangkok bus map, put him at the bus stop, told him which line to take and what to tell the fare collector where he will want to get out. We say goodbye and 30 seconds later I look back and see him hailing a taxi. The story does not end here: two days later he called me and said he had run out of money, can he have another 1000? The story has a prelude: he had to flee from Pattaya to Bangkok because he owed money to people in Pattaya. I bet my left testicle he didn't pay a single Baht back out of the 1000 I gave him. He is now in Chiang Mai. I learned a lot from this little experiment that only cost me 1000 Baht. I praised the public bus system many times to Thai friends, usual answers are: too slow, too hot, too much walking, too lo-so, I have never used a bus before and I don't know how to use them, often accompanied by a look "are you crazy?". vinapu Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 In boys defense , -where there's no money parents will not have a chance to teach kids proper money management skills. Whatever cash comes their way is immediately used to patch some hole. It's why those boys living on their own from very young and stupid age have no idea how to go about expenses smartly. To this day I take taxis very rarely , even in Bkk where they are extremely good value because from childhood I heard from my parents that taking taxi is wasting money / where I grew up taxis were expensive but public transport was extremely cheap / faranglaw 1 Quote
Guest Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 It's astonishing how people cannot figure out some basic finance matters themselves. For a boy on a low income & with plenty of free time, spending perhaps 1~200 baht on a taxi ride when there is a perfectly good bus service makes no sense. I manage to get around Bangkok using bus, metro, river boat & skytrain, despite not being able to read or speak Thai. The only notable exception in recent years, was in the company of Christian & Vinapu, who favoured the option of a taxi back from the edge of the city. Quote

The only notable exception in recent years, was in the company of Christian & Vinapu, who favoured the option of a taxi back from the edge of the city. While you are correct, this is not just Thailand phenomena. In the west we have plenty of minimum wage people buying their lunches in coffee trucks instead of preparing them themselves and welfare recipients arriving from shopping by the taxi are common view from my balcony / I live across the street from social housing / It may be that people of meager means from time to time need to treat themselves to boost self esteem, just like their better off brothers drowned in oversized mortgages and driving expensive cars and then wondering why they can't afford to retire early. As for that taxi idea it was entirely mine and had nothing to do with the above . It was motivated by the lust, I wanted to squeeze an appointed massage at Senso before appointed dinner at Madrid Pizza which was supposed to be finish in time because I was expecting boy named Boy in my BBB Inn room at 22.00 sharp to finish fruitful day of sightseeing rural outskirts of Bangkok all reported in my December 2015 trip report including presentation of once famous yellow "Bike for Dad' shirt. That day was memorable for me for another reason as well - I was late 10-15 minutes for that dinner but Boy arrived with Swiss precision at 10 p.m. , feast many would not expect Thai Boy being capable of Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 To answer the OP's original question, I recruit all my staff based on perceived ability and pay NO attention to Thai academic qualifications and train them up, with excellent results. And end up with very highly loyal staff! Of course they haven't come from a sex industry background in the first place. Wouldn't even go there. Quote
