Prostate surgery and recovery

I've been a bit quiet on here of late and have been relegated to just reading the fine posts put up by the members.

Well in a way I am glad my next trip won't be for another 10 to 12 months, just recently underwent TURP surgery on the old prostate and after having a minor setback after surgery it's taking time to fully recover. They say no sex for 6 weeks and I thought more like 3 months and I reckon at least 3 months would be about right, especially for anal sex, at least everything should be alright by the next trip but I am really feeling disappointed that I won't be able to get to Thailand sooner.

One thing is for certain, I now have plenty of time to plan (read dream, I only plan the main bits and take everything else as it comes) of my next trip and to check up on some of the places I would like to go and see.

I. too, had prostate surgery last year.  I was fortunate enough to have access to the CyberKnife process which uses an extremely accurate laser beam  to target only the diseased cells.  It is much less invasive and, while the recovery period was more like 6 monthis,I experienced only a general lack of energy rather than any really serious limitations.  There was no pain and no serious side effects from the surgery.  I just had a check-in with my doctor and he pronounced that my previous condition had been reduced by 95%!  And, because of my extremely low PSA I don't have to check-in with him until this time next year.

While the plumbing does not work the same as when I was 40 (or 50,60, or 70 for that matter) it still works.  I cannot say what the "bottoming" situation would be since the occasion has not arisen for me.

Hope your recovery continues and that the prospect of a visit to LOS helps.

Like you, I don't see making the trip until next year, but I am compiling a list of new things to do and, hopefully, having many spontaneous "adventures" as well.

Thanks fellas.

Jason, so far so good with me as I have not experienced any of the side effects (just that one blockage that set me back a little in hospital), my next appointment with the specialist is in 5 weeks time and I will be surprised if he doesn't give me the all clear. Looking forward to next years trip no matter what.

Prostate problems are very common and almost all of us will have problems if we live long enough.

I recall reading that 60% of 60 y.o, 70% of 70 y.o and 80% of 80 y.o. men will have prostate cancer.

I'm encouraged to see fellow posters discuss this sensitive topic openly.

Next year may technically begin in 5 months but my vacation time won't start until at least October.  Oh well, you guys keep posting interesting reports and the eternally interesting "Model Photo Shoots" and I believe I will survive. (Anyone else start hearing Glorai Gaynor?)

My brother-in-law is a physician and he says that what is uncommon is for a man my age to NOT have an issue with the prostate.  He says it is not only common but that the medical advances and the technology have made incredible advances so that dealing with it is much more effective and much less debilitating than ever.

Sometimes I have to "read and run" without having enough time to post a reply but I do enjoy the reports and observations as well as the ever-present debates about how much to pay and what to do when you get the "my buffalo die" story.

Hopefully, since I won't make it this year, I may be able to stay a bit longer next year and have a bit more "discretionary" funds for fun.

Hope everyone is healthy, happy and doing the things that bring them joy.
