paulsf Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 And it's only about a mile from Silom/Surawong. Great hotel. I've stayed there many times. TotallyOz 1 Quote
Guest whall Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I'm a tarntawan guy so if will probably be hard to switch unless there is a vast savings difference. Quote
firecat69 Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 ??? You know what the price is , so should be an easy decision either way! Quote
paulsf Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I stopped staying at the Tarntawan because the Courtyard can be cheaper. The Tarntawan has the best location , but it needs a renovation really bad. Quote
vinapu Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 . The Tarntawan has the best location , but it needs a renovation really bad. now I think Raya is a formidable competitor to Tartawan but what do I know about hotels? Quote
fedssocr Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 The city has such a glut of nice hotels. I stayed at Tarntawan only one time 10 years ago and felt it was not very comfortable. This Courtyard looks pretty nice though. TotallyOz 1 Quote
vinapu Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 What did you find uncomfortable at Tarntawan other that lack of pool ? I'm just honestly curious since I stay there few times and found it very comfy. Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 16, 2016 Author Posted July 16, 2016 I stayed there once MANY years back. The Internet sucked (but typical of most hotels in Thailand back then). The bed was not comfortable and it was a bit noisy for me. But, I did like the location. Quote
fedssocr Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 It was a long time ago. But I recall the bed being hard as a rock and the bathroom being very badly in need of updating. And there was no view of anything out the window. I also found breakfast to be kind of depressing...not very good food and lots of old guys and their boy from last night sitting in awkward silence. Guest ryanasia Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Tarntawan has seen better days. It is a dilemma for them as the less people stay there the more urgent restorations become with less revenue and inflation creeping in. I wish the owner the best he is a friendly enough guy and I always felt welcome there. I stopped staying there around five years ago. There would need to be a persuasive case to get me to go back again given similar options in this price range. Quote
bucknaway Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I like the Bandara service apartments. Cheaper, nice condo type apartments and a close location and no problem for guests. Quote
Guest whall Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I stayed at tarntawan and thought it was great. No complaints. Except, I agree, pool would of been nice. Quote
paulsf Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I don't think anybody is really saying the Tarntawan is bad. I have stayed there many times. I think their staff is 5 star. But...their prices keep trickling up, with nothing in return, other than location. The Courtyard has same and sometimes lower prices, but with pool, gym, full buffet breakfast, executive lounge. (Free booze) Bright and colorful modern rooms. Tarntawan just needs a little colorful paint. Raya is modern, better location, but no pool,or gym. I have a condo now, so not really an issue for me anymore. But Bangkok has been going thru a big modernization over the last several years, but the Tarntawan hasn't. Guest travelerjim Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Note...IF you booked a Senior Rate at this hotel.... Go back and look at new LOWER rates now on their website.... I was able to get rates in the 2,295 Thb range vs earlier bookings of 2,800+ Also suggest you use the flexible rate to find lowest rates for Seniors. My favorite hotel in Bangkok...when rates this low. Good luck Tj ps...The Courtyard in Pattaya now has rates as low as 1,421 Thb ...NOT a senior rate. The senior rate is higher. Just use NO special rate. Quote
paulsf Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Marriott has some of the best Senior rates out there. On average 10-15% savings. In Asia I've seen discounts closed to 50% . Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 From experience... I do not assume the Senior rate is lower than others offered online... Up til now...the Bangkok Courtyard Marriott Sr Rate was much higher. tj Quote
vinapu Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 paul and jim start worrying about senior rates when they will be applicable to you Quote
Popular Post paulsf Posted August 8, 2016 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2016 Unfortunately senior rates have been part of my life for a few years now. But there are advantages. Boys ask how old I am. I tell them and they say you look so much younger . I say no, I am old. Then they take over. I'll carry that, watch your step, hold my hand. Aww, they are so caring. Then when we get home for the fun stuff, they want to make sure my last days on earth are filled with lots of fun bed time. Manly69, billyhouston, TotallyOz and 3 others 6 Quote
