Apologies for intruding with a non-Pattaya question

Last time I was in Paradise complex it was pretty much dead. Bars want incredibly high off fees and insist on the price for the boys. Off fees I understand but I don't like the amount of the 'tip' being dictated to me by some greedy mama-san. Before you could excuse the gay scene in Phuket because it was friendly and on a beautiful island. These days I wouldn't swim in Patong beach anymore than I would in Pattaya bay.

So the value for money is terrible and they have destroyed the natural draw of the place. They have really killed a nice place through very poor choices. For some it is still paradise and that does exist somewhere but the desperation in the gay scene is becoming very apparent. So what do they do to respond? Jack up the prices. I used to love Phuket but won't be back anytime soon.

I went to Phuket (Patnog Beach) once, for several nights around 8 years ago.

Accommodation:  I stayed in Paradise Complex & didn't sleep well, as there was a LOUD disco running until about 3~4:000 am every night.

Gogo bars:  A small number.   Inferior to Pattaya, although vastly superior to what is on offer outside Thailand.

Beach:   Undoubtedly a nicer beach than Pattaya, but there was only one gay concession & the service was rather abrupt. I actually preferred to be on Jomtien beach.

Around Phuket: Well there are some nice trips out to islands possible, which is one of the better points.  [At least 2 James Bond films have had scenes filmed around these islands, although they try to pass the location off as in China and Halong Bay respectively].

Anyway, apologies for not writing about Phuket. Whilst I shall go back some day, it's not very high on my agenda at present.

Ko Samui must be tried, sometime.

My experience of Koh Samui doesn't lead me to believe from what you have typed above that you are not bound to like it any better.

My liking for Patong, Phuket and Samui had more or less diminished over the years.

When I was walking past Paradise Complex last year, the buildings and the entire area looked derelict.

Both supply and demand of boys were almost non-existent.

The gay farangs are no longer present as Krabi offers better sea-worthy experience and dining options.

Yes no official gay bars/clubs to venture but the crowd is smaller and the overall experience is much more relaxing.

I suspect my first visit to Hua Hin, Koh Samui & Krabi would come before any second visit to Patong Beach. Just because of the novelty factor.

In contrast, I think it is 8 visits to Pattaya so far & I hope there will be many more. That is the appeal of the nightlife.
