Beware when you go Banana for massage

Sad to say, I too have had money stolen at this place, despite having used the locker provided. Best advice still is to bring all your valuables along to the shower and the massage room regardless of the place or the availability of lockers. Actually, the locker and familiarity with the shop had given me a false sense of security. The massage service, I must say though, have been consistently very good.

great idea but common sense comes even cheaper.

Often in stores, bars,  markets and other places I observe tourists pulling out fat wallets or wads of money and wonder why they carry all that  on them instead of leaving it in some safety box or at least in the money belt inside undergarments.

I'm surprised to hear about this. I've used lockers at Banana Club in past with no problem.  I've always found the manager to be very concerned with his shop's reputation.  He frequently responds to customer comments left on Travel Gay Asia site.

The issue of how best to secure cash when in massage places has come up from time to time.  I think the easiest and most foolproof solution is to stuff a 7-Eleven bag in your pocket and after removing pants (assuming that's where your baht is), roll them up and put them in bag, tying a knot with the handles.  Take the bag with you into shower and hang it on hook.  While in the room, place bag on hook or other location where you can glance at it from time to time.  That way you can bypass the locker system altogether.

While I agree with DivineMadman about avoiding places with repeated reports of theft, I had'nt read this thread before I visited Banana in late June.  I had a fantastic massage, liked the new place, and had a good chat with Kelvin, the manager.  I used the locker for my valuables.

After reading this thread I note that the reported theft was around the time Banana had moved into it's new location.  Don't know what else to say...

It's never the victims fault and I'm not mad if a person has 10 baht or 10,000 baht in their pocket. If a place is opening lockers and stealing I'm just thankful for the warning.

Easy for me to suggest after the event but why not take a small padlock with you?

As I recall the "lockers" aren't gym lockers that would accept a padlock.  They are have a key on wrist band that you take with you.  I believe the thought was that some unscrupulous person working there had access to duplicate keys or the master keys.

There are so many great places to get massages in Bangkok, it's easy to give this place a pass.

i just avoid places where there have been repeated reports of theft...

If I had nothing to do, I would go there with money in my wallet counted to see if anything is stolen. Like I do when I leave my wallet in my room with boy when I take a shower.

I was there quite a few times in both locations , old and new and never had anything missing and would not be concerned if going there again. After all we can leave our golden bars in hotel's safe before we venture anywhere
