Popular Post paulfort Posted March 21, 2016 Popular Post Posted March 21, 2016 I am bad for sometimes just asking questions or replying to the odd question posted by other members so thought I should again post my own little trip report as it has been a while since I did so...... Well the first part of this holiday started with an Eva air flight from LHR to BKK and whilst the first meal on the flight wasn't so great I cant otherwise fault EVA, my frequency of trips with them to Thailand has now elevated me to their "Silver" FF status and the benefits of using their Air Canada Lounge at Heathrow are well worth the loyalty in my opinion (and saved me a fortune against a few pints in the Young's bar in terminal two!). This time I stayed at the Ambiance - Pattaya for my first 8 nights in a "Balcony Penthouse Suite", whilst effectively the "Balcony" is also the access corridor route and the definition of "Suite" for the room is questionable - more a fairly spacious room it was comfortable, clean and I would consider returning, the staff were very friendly and the one night I had dinner in their Lounge restaurant on the terrace was much better than I would have expected. Obviously for the night life the location is perfect and saves to hassel of travling in and back again from the less central gay hotels, al, be it I missed the pool of some other options but explained below wasn't that relevant for me any way this time! So far as the Pattaya bars were concerned, bearing in mind my preference is for the more muscular ripped boys ... A Bomb - appeared to have a fair number of boys, mainly more masculine but whilst I like this bar, the guys are often more my type and they are friendly the really slow turn around of boys on the stage is infuriating, one guy leaves and is replaced every music track change, and their tracks appear to last longer than the typical CD so at best it will take ages to understand the full selection potently available ! X Boys - met with a previous friend from their who joined me as soon as I entered, but otherwise probably about 20 boys a mix of slimmer and some more well built, friendly and welcoming, so far as their show goes reasonably planned and entertaining. Dream Boys - probably about 20 boys but mainly think types and nothing for me A Cupied - about 20 boys but very slim/twinkly so defiantly not my type Funny Boys - a fair mix of about 20 boys but none really to my taste, however very friendly and welcoming Toy Boys - very good, probably 30 boys and a good mix, very friendly helpful mamas an, was only spoilt (but was entertaining) by an extremely drunk foreign guest! Boyz Boyz boyz - well I still think the best in Pattaya, probably 40 - 50 boys a lot with very good physiques! their external BBB show at 9pm sharp is still fun to watch, but be aware many of their boys don't turn up in time or even if they do they don't participate, the selection in the bar is much better and for me their first of two shows on an evening at about 10.30 with some lovely sometimes not over muscled boys flexing is worth seeing! The mamassan /service team at BBB are also the most friendly, but also for me it is a pleasure to leave the actual internal show and enjoy a few drinks on their terrace where often several other boys will, if invited join you and a more "real" environment than in the go-go bar setup - all be it we should always remember where we are and the commercial side! My trip coincided with part of the preliminary heats for Mr Thailand at the Royal Garden shopping mall, a couple of boys from BBB were competing so was great fun to join them to support at the competition, all be it unfortunately neither got through (judges error in my humble opinion!) One afternoon I (with hindsight stupidly) took walk beyond walking street through the boat yard area to the little light house on the headland, on my return a less than friendly dog decided to attack and bite me, initially a visit to a pharmacy who just provided some plasters and cream but on reading up on line further I realised a dog bite from a possibly wild dog in Thailand needs little more attention! I visited Pattaya City Hospital and was immediately advised to commence a series of Rabies vaccinations, the initial shot being the worst as from a very big needle and direct into the wound area! This may be common sense to many on the forum and perhaps in the UK we are now a bit protected but please be aware of the potential severity of ignoring such an incident, when I suggested to the doctor that I perhaps wait to see if I develop any Rabies symptoms before starting a course of five vaccinations his response to me was extremely simple "you develop symptoms - then you will very soon after die!" - Needless to say I started the vaccination process & subsequently continued in Bangkok and will get my last two now I am back home in the UK. Also worth mentioning if your unfortunate enough to experience this the Speeda vaccination which is apparently new and made from horse serum I received in Pattaya is not so readily available in Bangkok and they recommend at least for the first 3 of 5 injections you stay with the same product. Perhaps Just to avoid unfriendly dogs is probably our best bet! Well after 8 days in Pattaya - and a great time - all be it a lot less speed boat hire for my envisaged trips to Kho Larn and snorkelling ( so at least a little financial saving I guess !) it was time to head up to Bangkok for a further 6 days -so if of interest I will update on my views on the bars, massage venues and other aspects in the next few days! vinapu Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Waiting impatiently for next installment. Glad you took those vaccines right away - doctor was right, if you show rabies symptoms it's too late and it's much less pleasant death than say, to be shot on the spot Quote
Londoner Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 The LHR-BKK deal on EVA is a good one. I've done the journey more than sixty times over the past twenty years and only on a couple of occasions has the plane been late. And the Silver Card is worth having too. I was previously a Gold (which meant a personal welcome from a flight attendant on board!) but EVA changed the mileage demands and so I'm a Silver now. Avoid the evening meal on the plane- too late and not very appetising and instead eat in the lounge. A hot dinner, salads , soup and much else is available. Wine and a cognac too. I can eat at a reasonable time in my view- 1800- rather than at 2300 which isn't good for sleep. Another plus is that you can queue at the Business check-in at BKK which is always much shorter than the other ones, even if, like me you are a mere Elite passenger. Then eat in the EVA Lounge, thereby avoiding the uncomfortable experience of eating in-flight. Every three round trips I get an up-grade to Business Class on one leg. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Thanks for your report, especially Pattaya bars, will help me next time I go. One afternoon I (with hindsight stupidly) took walk beyond walking street through the boat yard area to the little light house on the headland, on my return a less than friendly dog decided to attack and bite me, initially a visit to a pharmacy who just provided some plasters and cream... At the same spot, two years ago, at night, I almost got attacked by a dog. It was preparing to jump at me, only imaginary stone throwing kept it at a distance. I wonder if it's the same dog, and if it attacks Thai as well. Details here: http://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2014/03/pattaya-10-12032014.html I apply the “imaginary stone throw” technique. Dogs cannot grab and throw objects, so the ability of humans to grab and throw objects must be magic to them. Even without anything to throw at the dog, just making a fist and raising my arm is sufficient and the dog retreats. Is this innate or does it only work if the dog has been hurt by an object thrown by a human before? A friend recently got bitten, and for me it's only a question of time, hence I'm interested in details. Did the dog jump at you or bite your leg, and did it let go after one bite or did you defend yourself? Quote
Popular Post paulfort Posted March 28, 2016 Author Popular Post Posted March 28, 2016 Well so far as the dog in Pattaya was concerned, not certain if it was a guard dog or stray, it just lunged towards me and bit/dug its lovely teeth in - but shit happens! So just over half way through this holiday I was off to Bangkok, I went up with a friend that used to work at BBB he (did the fronting with the flag on the outside line up) and arrived at Tarntawan Place which whilst a bit dated and no pool I feel the friendliness still makes up for. I initially popped out to the Bangkok Christian Hospital for my next Rabies vaccination, only to find they didn't stock the same variety (mine was apparently new and made from Horse serum!) so eventually they advised me that Samitivej hospital did stock the same vaccine so a long motorbike taxi ride over there - where after lots of checks I eventually got my next injection - with subsequent daily visits over there for checks, dressing the wound and eventually injection. Hopefully no one reading this will need to use a hospital in Bangkok but I couldn't really fault the friendliness or apparent efficiency of Samitivej, just a shit location if your staying at Tarntawan Place! So after all that messing about first night in Bangkok was a few beers at Hotmale terrace with my friend from Pattaya, then the Balcony, game of pool nearby and dinner at Maxis - they currently have an offer of buy two bottles of wine for only a little more than the price of one bringing it nearer to UK prices which I agreed to, great meal and service - but just wondered with no receipt if my second bottle of wine would be available when I returned! My friend headed back to Pattaya on Monday morning, was sad to say goodbye but also felt a little bit free! An easy day so a trip to Samitivej hospital then some bars in the evening meeting a friend who used to work in Hotmale beer bar, a few drinks there and at the balcony and then dinner at an excellent German Restaurant on Soi 4, the owner has only just opened the place used to have a smaller restaurant on Phat pong 2 - it is the only German Restaurant on Soi 4on the RHS as you walk down and well worth a visit if you fancy and alternative to the Thai food, all be it they also do that which my friend appeared to enjoy! Tuesday I chose to avoid a return trio to Samitivej hospital and just had a wander down to Prince massage - this place is great in terms of a very good selection of boys and really comfortable more high end individual rooms, well worth a visit. In the evening I checked some bars for the first time on this trip in Bangkok, normally my first night so was eager.... Tawan Bar - well a great Jupiter - OK but the front row was monopolised by a tour group of Japanese women which was a bit off putting X Boys - a fair selection including a couple with fairly ripped bodies but the mamasan lady boy who has worked there for years and thinks we are best of friends was a little bit in my face! So I eventually returned to Tawan Bar and offed a great guy and enjoyed a very please evening. Wednesday - quick trip to Samitivej hospital for them to check and treat me and gain a few more Thai Bht's from me (or hopefully ultimately my insurance company!) then back on the Sky train to V Club 7 - at about 3pm only about 8 - 10 guys available but still a good selection and I was happy! headed back to hotel and then the bars. I had an early dinner at Dicks - then checked out Boys Bangkok, nothing exciting but probably about 30 boys, then fresh boys which had a limited selection and hotmale upstairs had a decent selection but nothing that appealed to me in hotmale but that was my choice - to be fair I always find the mamasan lady boy by there very helpful, friendly and not pushy. So back to Tawan and had a very pleasant eventing for the second night with a boy from there including a bit of dinner at Maxis and despite any fears I may have had as soon as I sat down the bottle of wine previously purchased was served and couldn't fault it. Thursday - well my next injection at Samitivej then on too Hero which is not that far away, as par my earlier post probably about 30 + boys at say 4pm in the afternoon, most are on the more muscular side and whilst the rooms are a bit more basic still a great value option and well worth a visit if you like the more muscular type! In the evening I checked out Screw Boys which whilst a good selection including a few more ripped/muscular boys had nothing for me, X Boys again but to be honest I am probably getting a little cantankerous in my old age but between the mature Thai "Captain" who was clearly pissed and kept pushing me to select a boy whilst obstructing my view of their selection and my lady boy mamasan "friend" the place is starting to do my head in so one drink in there and of again - shame because they have a decent selection of boys! Friday morning was time to head home - I probably focus on air line loyalty a little because it can bring great Perks, following recent trips with Eva I have now elevated to their silver tear so in addition to the benefits of flying in their "Elite" Premium economy cabin with its various benefits I could now also enjoy their excellent lounge at the airport, a good way to conclude my little break!
