gerefan Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 What's you're favourite app for finding boys in Thailand? Quote
colmx Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 since gayromeo changed their name to planetromeo to avoid the Chinese censors and then removed the free Plus membership for Thailand.... I estimate that their membership has dropped 50% or more.in Thailand.. From what I can see Blued is the up and coming new kid on the block... If there are 1 billion Chinese, and at least 60% of them male, and a further (conservative) 8% gay = 48 Million potential Chinese guys on Blued! if even 1% of those people In turn visit Thailand ==> that's nearly 500 million Chinese tourists.... Hope then have enough tour buses! Quote
DivineMadman Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I've settled on Hornet. As has been mentioned before, in Bangkok most of the profiles are Not money boys just regular Thais looking for same. Quote
gerefan Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Colmx....maths not your strong point?! Or is it me? colmx, ggobkk and vinapu 3 Quote
ggobkk Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Blued certainly has a lot of listings in Bangkok when I check the explore option a few minutes ago. Quote
anddy Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I like hornet most because of the functionality and multiple pictures. Grindr totally sucks fir functionality, limit to ONE SINGLE picture and limit to 100 guys (free version). Handling of Jack'd is a bit bothersome. Romeo I still use mostly on a laptop, coz that's where it came from and what I'm used to, hard to break old habits haha. Never heard of Blued.... Quote
Alexx Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 My vote still goes to GayRomeo, but nowadays I see Grindr and Hornet as very good alternatives. In Bangkok, specifically. Quote
colmx Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Colmx....maths not your strong point?! Or is it me? LOL, that's what happens when you post on a message board after 1.5 bottles of wine! of course the message should have read 500 Thousand vinapu 1 Quote
Guest Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 LOL, that's what happens when you post on a message board after 1.5 bottles of wine! Impressed that you can post at all after 1.5 bottles. As for the apps, well I think Planet Romeo is losing market share big time in the migration from PCs to Android/Apple devices. They are at risk of disappearing. Quote
Alexx Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 They might not disappear, but that they totally botched the first version of their app certainly didn't help. People, including myself, seem reluctant to try newer versions of it. I think their touch.planetromeo.com website is quite okay for mobile phones. Quote

Can't figure out what you are talking about? I just looked and 18-24 in Pattaya there were 240 boys who visited the site in the last 24 hours . If anything there are more boys then ever. Now I rarely use my phone, mostly my laptop so can't comment on Android etc. Few times I use it on my iPhone it works fine. I use Hornet a lot and find it far superior to Jack'd or Grinder which is a joke IMHO. Surprisingly there are still boys who do not use multiple sites so I can find some on Hornet that are not on Romeo and vice versa. Quote
Guest Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Can't figure out what you are talking about? I just looked and 18-24 in Pattaya there were 240 boys who visited the site in the last 24 hours . I am referring to market share. So you need to compare the number of people on the other apps to determine that. As I'm also talking in the context of survival of the app, then a broader sample size is valid. Where I am in the UK, JackD flags up a lot more people within a given radius than Planet Romeo. IF that were repeated in many other countries, then Planet Romeo have a problem. Even if it takes time for the momentum to work through to turnover. Of course, I suspect they will be doing fine in some countries, but in a competitive marketplace, their survival is not guaranteed. There are many examples in the last few decades of technologies & software that have come and gone. Gay dating apps also need to keep up. Quote
1moRussian Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Grindr has only 1 photo - not my option when choosing. Used Jack'D (paid for December trip), Hornet and PlanetRomeo. For me looks like hot boys moved from PlanetRomeo to the other apps, don't know why. Paid Jack'D has some "insights" that helps to guess if the boy replying to older men's messages or not. And unpaid Jack'D still shows you, who visited your profile - some boys check this info and can come back. Firstly was stuck with mb-question in Jack'D and Hornet - at PlanetRomeo there is a preferred age indication. If it's 18-90 years, it means the boy is available. Not so in other apps After a while read Firecat's advice - just compliment how the sexy photos are, boys who are in search, will reply. Funny story - once saw a really hot boy near Chatuchack in JD, saved his profile. Right before my next trip he appeared at ThaiMassageBoy - I was quite happy and went to this massage shop from Don Mueang with my bags. Nice lad (Of course, before heading there I wrote a Line message to the manager, if the boy is working) ChristianPFC 1 Quote
firecat69 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 In reply to Z909 That's fine but neither you or I have any idea what their market share is and since this is a Thailand Forum, I mistakenly assumed we were talking about apps in Thailand. First of all none of the Apps like Hornet etc have an escort section so pretty hard for Romeo to lose market share to any of those apps. In fact most of them do a decent job of restricting the mention of money for sex in the Ad. I know they fail in some cases but. When I use Romeo in parts of the world other then Asia , I go to the Escort section. Because I know what i am getting and I don't have to waste a lot of time discovering whether the individual is interested in making money for Sex. At least as far as I can see Romeo has no viable competition in this particular field. They compete with Rent Boy before they were put in jail and other pretty much useless sites. Quote
1moRussian Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Have a Thai specific question - has anybody used http://www.gboysiam.in/ ? Quote
Guest whall Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Grindr worked well for me in bkk and pattaya Quote
Guest Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 In reply to Firecat69. On the contrary, I have an idea that PlanetRomeo are losing market share based on the simple observation that apps like JackD, Hornet and Grinder clearly have market share that they simply didn't have before smartphones caught on. Plus the trend in the number of people on the apps in my area. Whether this observation extrapolates into a global trend is of course unknown. And since I'm an app customer rather than an investor, it thankfully doesn't matter if I'm right or wrong. The Escorts section of Planet Romeo is of course a USP outside Thailand. Even if it isn't accessible via the app. Quote
firecat69 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Have no idea what you mean by USP. 90 % of the time I use my laptop and the escort section is always available in Thailand and anywhere else in the world. If you mean you can't get the escort section on your phone, I have never tried so didn't know. Quote
Travellerdave Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Planet Romeo is an important asset for me during my visits to Pattaya. In fact I never bother with the other options, but maybe I should. What is important for me is the quality of the photos and the information about the boy, such as age and sexual orientation. One improvement I would like is the response time for messages between me and the boy. Quote
firecat69 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 The big advantage of Romeo is that you can see when the boy last visited the site and more importantly you can see if your message to him was actually read. Something I don't think the other apps provide. Quote

If you mean you can't get the escort section on your phone, I have never tried so didn't know. Andy kindly explained the term USP. Of course the Escort section is available in Thailand. However as Thailand bans prostitution & it's citizens are all law abiding, most of the guys do not advertise in the Escort section in Thailand. They are in the main section. As an example, I just did a check for Asians under 26 in Pattaya. There was 1 on line in the Escorts section and 164 in the main section. The PlanetRomeo app does not support the escorts section. It is possible to access it on a phone via a browser & the full website, but of course that is rather fiddly. Once you have found the escorts, the app supports messaging with them, but if you want to go back to check their profile, a browser is needed again. Quote
firecat69 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I figured it must be something like that but I rarely use my phone for Romeo. My laptop is in the room and i send messages out on that . If I am not in the room then I get an alert on my phone that I have a message and that is easily read and replied to. The only boys who advertise in the Escort section of Romeo in Thailand are those hoping to get an uniformed foreigner who does not know how many boys there really are and the correct price. However in Europe the escort section is great and I am sure used far more then any other escort site. Again I am not aware of problems using Romeo on a Phone platform. I just signed into Romeo and they had 105,000 people online. I have no idea how that compares with Hornet etc but sounds like a thriving business to me. Quote
colmx Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Anyone remember Manhunt? or remember when Gaydar was the go to gay dating site in most of Europe At the same time adam4adam was the go to site in the US They were both preceded by gay.com and manjam What do all above sites have in common? The have absolutely no market share in the new app-ified world of gay dating I doubt any Thaiboy under 25 has heard of any of the above sites... and I fear gayromeo will soon be following suit.... ChristianPFC 1 Quote
firecat69 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I guess if you are talking about true gay dating sites or escort site. Adam was always useless for escorts IMHO. Only escort site that was actually decent was Rent Boy and they are in jail. The rest of the sites are a joke. Romeo on the other hand you don't have to waste your time trying to contact escorts that have not been on the site for 30 days or escorts that have been on the site for 10 years even though they stopped escorting 7 years ago like men4retnnow. I have a feeling Romeo will be around for a long time! I just checked world wide 18-22 and there are 521 escorts online at this moment . 1/2 the world it is middle of the night . I can't look at a bigger age range because it would be thousands and they only display 600 at a time. I did not even bother checking the non escort portion because I know it would be in the Thousands. Quote
