Michael's Trip Report 2004 - First Visit To Thailand

Recommended Posts

What a great read.  An insight for many to the first time visitor and a look at how things have changed in relation to money and the advance of social media!

Did not  know my name was Fireboat??  HeHe

I think I had a damn Sony back then and they sucked at spell check. :)

Thanks.

Of course you could spice it up a little  by going back to your treasure trove of photos from that time and posting them.  I can dream. HeHe

How do you know I keep photos?  LOL  I only have about 200,000 on my computer and they are often tough to find. :)

Here is the boy that traveled with me on the first trip.  He told me he was 19 at Future Boys.  Then, he said he was 23.  When we checked into the Marriott, I was told 29. :)  I always teased him about being 19 for years later.

This is also a photo of the luxury (not) Welcome Plaza suite that we lasted one day in. :)

My date for the trip was an escort from NYC who stayed with me the whole time.  Most of my photos from this trip were of him as he was the best bottom the earth has ever seen. :)

With that type of proclamation, you are now required to post some pictures of that bottom...house rules!  LOL

Thank you for posting that great trip report.  Love the sense of discovery throughout.  I wish I had posted like that during my first trip, but not sure I would have had the energy.

Note the picture of the boy was taken from the Balcony of the Presidential Suite. And lets not forget you stole my boy sitting in front of my room and subsequently he become a favorite of yours .

Never would have happened except for the checking into the best suite in Welcome Plaza.  HeHe.

I have to admit my taste improved in regards to Hotels after that but never could stomach the high rates at Marriott in Pattaya for tiny rooms and even tinier bathrooms.

Great Pool and fabulous breakfast if it was included not if you had to pay for it.

Great trip report!  I wish I was so adventurous on my first trip.

And your report is now your "journal" that we can all look back on and enjoy. I just some imagine some historian in the future investigating the gay scene in Thailand in the early 21st century. Your report will be invaluable  :)

Does anyone ever wonder what happens to these "associates" we meet on our trips?  Of course a few, in my case, have gone on to become great friends, usually those out of the commercial scene.  However other guys, I'd like to re-visit, change their phone and email so regularly they seem to disappear. Perhaps they're back with their family or have a BF?

Anyway, a really great read!   What happened on your second visit?  :p

On my second visit, I was walking down Sunee Plaza and heard my name being called.  It was the boy that Firecat took to Bangkok and I met him on the very last few days of my trip.  I talked to him and asked him to be my tour guide that night.  :)  Well, he stayed a few months or years and Firecat and I remained friends even though he really liked the lad. LOL

4 motorcycles, 10 cell phones and multiple family issues, this lad turned out to be my best teacher on Thailand.  I learned exactly what not to ever do with a Thai boy. ;)  And, Firecat and I remained friends ever though the lad cost me a fortune! LOL

I started out at Future Boys which was a very good place to go. It was interesting to learn the way the bars work. I had one of the managers sit with me until I picked a boy from the stage. The drinks were 200 baht and if I choose a boy from there I had to pay the manager 300 baht for the boy to leave the establishment.

Thank you for sharing your report and praise you for mentioning prices.

Assuming 200 Baht drinks and 300 Baht off fees were the average in 2004, and 350 and 600 in 2015,

I calculate an inflation rate of 5.2% per year for drinks and 6.5% per year for off fee.

The service sector tends to have an above average inflation rate as all the productivity improvements lie elsewhere.

And thanks for the reports Michael.
