TotallyOz Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I have been curious reading about the success that many have with the apps on their mobile phones. I have been testing them on this trip and found a few ones that I like and others that seem useless to me.Hornet - I like Hornet as I am getting the most responses from it. Naturally, that makes it my favorite. But, the design is not my favorite. I like the way Hornet does photos and has the little bubbles at the top to show whether or not the user had more photos or private photos. Scruff - I think scruff has the most features of any of the apps. I like the possibilities that it offers. There are not too many younger twinks on the site, but I do like the way it works and the information you can see from others. Personally, I like the design of this one the best.Jackd - I do like the way they show photos on the main page and not just one photo like Grindr. Jackd seems to have many guys in Bangkok and in Thailand and thus, it is good to log on and find members.Grindr - This has been the mainstay but I find I get too many spam solicitations on here. I am not sure how people send messages that have not logged in for days and thousands of miles away, but it is annoying. I’d be curious as to which app brings you the best luck in Thailand? What about when at home? What features do you like the most? Alexx and ChristianPFC 2 Quote
hanan Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 My experience is from Pattaya. Planet Romeo is by far the best there IMHO. Best selection, largets numbers of available thai guys. Hornet is 2nd place, but on PR almost all the thai guys are looking for farangs but on Hornet there are also quite a few thais only looking for other thais. Jack´d worthless in Pattaya. Alexx Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 In Bangkok specifically, I'd say Hornet is currently the best app for finding local Thais while Scruff is mostly useful for finding other expats or tourists and Grindr has a decent mix of both. Activity-wise, Hornet seems to be the busiest one at the moment, less so in Central Bangkok but it's more pronounced in the outskirts. As a generalization that obviously isn't true for everyone, the Thais on Grindr seem more focused on meeting foreigners, while those on Hornet are more often looking for fellow Thais in the first place. Regarding their respective features, I like Hornet best because of the way they do photos. Also, now you can use it on your PC as well, a big plus in my opinion. Grindr looks too basic nowadays in comparison, Scruff has that silly "woof" feature that allows guys to contact others without actually writing anything, and Jack'd seemed more popular before Hornet started to gain real traction, so I don't bother anymore. I haven't included GayRomeo, because I'm still using it the "traditional" way, not their app. Still works well in Bangkok, too. Quote
Guest Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Planet Romeo is still the best for the "trade" in Pattaya. JackD seems quite popular with the Chinese tourists, but no success there so far. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 From experience with grindr and hornet: different program, same shit! I wrote about them here: http://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2014/12/what-fuck.html and can now extend: Why the hell does hornet have 150 MB data in cache? Hornet app on my phone remains total crap. I wrote about spamming my phone's memory; not just that, I have to pay for it was well! When I open hornet and look at a few profiles, I get SMS for my data connection "you have used 10 Baht today already...". Third and further pictures load very slowly, on a friend's tablet as well (so it's not my phone!). Starting at such a poor level, introduction of hornet for computer (works without problem here) deserves praise! However, now there seems to be a problem with requesting private photos. I had two more cases where a boy deleted his profile and all chat was gone as well. Quote
firecat69 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 What would you expect to happen He removes it is gone. Profile belongs to him not you! I buy unlimited data per month for less then 200 baht. so no problem in data use. Plus with free wifi everywhere , 4 G is sometimes 2nd choice. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I'm a paper person, if I receive a letter and the sender dies, I still have the letter. I would apply the same to digital messages. In addition, there is not even a note, if I hadn't found out by chance (exchanged messages and profile deleted and all messages gone on the same day), I would have searched for profile and message until I turn mad. On gayromeo and the forums, messages remain even if the sender deletes his profile or gets banned. Quote
