brall3 Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I received the regular 30 day Visa stamp at the airport, and obtained an additional 30 days from the consulate in Bangkok. Any idea how long one can stay in Thailand on a tourist visa? Some countries allow a maximum of 180 days stay per year (total days and not necessarily continues). I am curious if it is the same for Thailand. Quote
biguyby Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I suggest you look at the visa information on the Thai Embassy website that is based in your home country as there are different rules for different passport holders. Quote
anddy Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 in November they will introduce a new tourist visa, valid for 6 months with multiple entry.and allowing to stay 60 days each time. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/702720/new-6-month-visas-begin-nov-13-but-limit-stays Quote
kokopelli Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 From USA a tourist visa is good for 60 days and can be extended by another 30 days. Quote
Travellerdave Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Same from the Uk - 60 days with an extension available. I believe there are other visas multiple entry with which you can stay for a year without leaving Thailand. Also a retirement visa available if you can prove financial criteria, health and age. Quote
Moses Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Stamp in airport isn't visa. It is visa exemption. For real visa you should visit Thai consulate in your country or any country abroad of Thailand. You can obtain 60 days visa and prolong it for additional 30 days (90 days in total) in immigration office in Thailand. Yes, as other countries Thailand offers 180 days per year, and as in other countries rule is "90 days stay per each 180 days". Quote
Guest Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 In addition to the official sites, there is a thaivisa forum which may also offer independent advice. Quote
mahjongguy Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 >> "rule is "90 days stay per each 180 days". There is no such rule. Nothing even close to that. As z209 recommends, information on how to stay in Thailand for extended periods can be found on ThaiVisa. Quote

As z209 recommends, information on how to stay in Thailand for extended periods can be found on ThaiVisa. There is rule. This rule has been imposed right after coup 2006 and still is in power. Some years they pay attention to it, some years don't. But rule "90 per 180" is in law. If you doubt - just write question to immigration office. mahjongguy Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 "Proof: case 2013 http://www.tripadvis...e-Thailand.html" If you read the comments posted on that TripAdvisor page you will see that the 90 per 180 rule was voided in Nov 2008. That person's request for a Tourist Visa was denied at the Singapore Embassy because the staff there have powers of discretion which they are well known to enjoy to the max. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 I received the regular 30 day Visa stamp at the airport, and obtained an additional 30 days from the consulate in Bangkok. Any idea how long one can stay in Thailand on a tourist visa? Some countries allow a maximum of 180 days stay per year (total days and not necessarily continues). I am curious if it is the same for Thailand. First paragraph: staying in Thailand on visa exemptions is now limited (recent crackdowns). You probably got additional 30 days from immigration (and not from consulate). Second paragraph: There seems to be no limit on time* you can stay in Thailand on tourist visas. So far, tourist visas work fine for me, with the occasional one week trip to neighboring countries and once or twice per year 2-4 weeks in Germany. *Maximum 90 days in a row, then you have to leave Thailand but can come back immediately**. This way, you can spend most of your time in Thailand. **Not recommended. Problems at some border crossings when you return the same day. Better spend some days in another country. Which visas are available for you depend on your nationality, age (maybe retirement visa - don't know the official name - is better for you than tourist visa) and you should consult Thai embassy's website or ask on thaivisa (and provide your nationality, age, and maybe even visa history). Jasper Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 *Maximum 90 days in a row, then you have to leave Thailand but can come back immediately**. . I assume that you get tourist visa in Germany. I have read somewhere in Thaivisa dot com that a consulate in France is very strict in issuing tourist visa that require the one need to stay in France for 3 months in order to get a back to back tourist visa. I think you are lucky in Germany. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 I get most of my tourist visas in Germany (triple entry), and some in Vientiane or Penang. I get triple entry in Berlin, the need to provide proof of leaving Thailand for each entry is annoying. Different embassies handle tourist visas differently (number of entries issued, additional documents required), having a look at Thaivisa is a good idea. Quote
