I'm going to be working in Bangkok for 5 weeks next summer, and will have nights and weekends free, plus about 4 days at the end of my time there. I'm trying to decide if I should just plan on staying in Bangkok, checking out Pattaya, other places in Thailand, or maybe hitting somewhere like Hong Kong, Vietnam or Singapore. I've never been to Asia before, and plan on getting a LOT of massages - and more - but maybe should plan on trying some other boys while I'm checking out other places... Thank god I have a lot of time to research... I feel like a kid in a candy store - there are just too many choices of things to see and boys to do! There are inexpensive day trips to do: Kanchanaburi Train journey (10 hour return) to Death Railway - THB 125 This is definitely a very interesting but tiring trip as the train leaves at 0715 hours and stops at various locations. You get to walk on the railway track itself... and to visit the museum (a must). Ayutthaya Train journey (6 hour return) to this old (1600 century) capital at less than THB 50 The ruins and remains of the Cambodian temples is worth the visit.. you can rent a bicycle near the jetty. Yes take a train, transfer to a ferry (5 THB) and viola, step back a few centuries. Hua Hin This is another 4 hr train journey to this summer retreat of the Royals. The town and the seaside is less crowded than Phuket ., definitely less commercialized. Well-worth a weekend break. Pattaya - In my opinion, not worth the trouble unless you are a sex tourist. The selection in Bangkok is better... The only place that you may like there is Ko Larn (THB 30 by ferry from Bali Hai Pier). Remaining 4 days .... Try upnorth.. Buy cheap air tickets from AirAsia or NOK to Chiangmai. See the beauty of the countryside. Massage parlours - they are everywhere.... Enjoy yourself (safely).. firecat69 Posted September 19, 2015 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Since he did not advise his preference , not sure I would tell him to avoid Pattaya especially if twinks are his preference. Many many times the number of twinks in Pattaya then anywhere else and at a much reduced price compared to BKK. If more interested in tourist things then I agree could avoid Pattaya with the knowledge that some other places mentioned will be hard to find available boys. Chiang Mai is a beautiful tourist city but a very poor city for the unfamiliar in finding boys. IMHO But it is avery short flight and no aggravation with Customs etc. Weekend trips to other Asian countries will be taken up by too much travel time and Customs ,Immigration things although in the future to make weekend trips feasible unless you have long weekends. You really need to be more specific in what things interest you the most. If massages with extras (sex) then Bangkok is as good as you can get. As a first time tourist, Bangkok can give you so many things that you may find you want to stay close to that base. I would make sure to read the trip reports from Smiles, Trongpai, and especially Christianpfc. I would urge you to take time to read Christianpfc's blog. He has a great many detailed trip reports, and many of those include reports about places to go that most tourists are not familiar with. Christian has been here for years and tends to go to out of the way places rather then things a first time visitor wants to cover before he ventures out to the places Christian goes. Christian has an unlimited amount of time which is great but the first time visitor can easily fill a month of weekends just seeing the highlights in Bangkok. If he goes to Trip Advisor , he will find the way to make the best use of his limited time on weekends. For questions about Sex, he will find plenty of suggestions here once he says what his preferences are in types of Men/Boys . Handy for somebody who like to see things and keen on avoiding weekend crowds at the same time. Danger of reading his blog is that after a whole somebody may think 'fuck all this sightseeing, lets wait until Super A opens". It sounds like hitting other countries is a bit much for a weekend away, so I'll concentrate on Thailand... If I had a choice of guys, I'd end up with more muscular guys, although give me a twink with a large one, or a nice butt and I'm willing to bend my rules... Given that, Pattaya may not be my thing, but maybe I should at least check it out one weekend just to experience it... who knows, there may be some twinks there that i'm into... Just looking at the pics on here, I'm learning to appreciate twinks more and more... I definitely love the idea of massages with extras, and could easily do that daily, but I'm not a hire them overnight kind of guy - I tend to like sex clubs and baths. But after the fun is done, I'm looking for places to visit or experiences I can't get in North America/Europe. I probably should experience train travel in Thailand. I keep seeing Angkor Wat as one of the places on "Best of" lists to visit, so I think I'll seriously consider it. Take train tour and after it take a rest for 2-3 nights in any floating hotel which you will like more than other there are a lot of hotels with floating villas from 1 to 4 stars. also very close are Tiger temple and Erawan waterfall. Therefore there would be no point making any weekend trips to other countries, as a weekend is too little and you can visit those countries on future holidays. Katachanaburi would be a nice weekend trip. Take time out to see the Erawan falls as well as the railway line. Ayutthaya can quickly be reached by rail, so could make a longish day trip. Short list for newcomers: The Sanctuary of the Truth Nong Nooch tropical garden (not only amazing garden, but also: folk show, elephant show and riding, butterfly farm): Floating market (mostly touristic, but still nice): Million year stone park and crocodile farm and show Adventures in jungles on zip-line Gibbon Flight (over 40 segment zip-line via jungles, installed by Australian specialists, totaly safe, do you like adrenaline?): and also for sure cabaret shows like Alcazar, Colosseum, Tiffany oh, and Alangkarn Theater: if btw tours you will feel yourself tired don't forget to order Thai massage for relax and recovery from Nick at thaimasseur.biz (second row in my "signature"). Train station in Pattaya is far from tourist areas, and train can be slow (schedule 4 hours, where bus would take 2-3). I think I'll be done working on a Friday, and don't fly out til Wednesday afternoon... I figure if I go to Pattaya on the Saturday for a few days and then get back to Bangkok to stay on the Tuesday night, it'll make getting to the airport easy on my last day... and I'll definitely use a van it sounds like between the two places...
