Any quick recommendations for hotel accommodations in Chiang Mai?

 

I checked on the Lotus and the price is 2000B a night for a standard room. I think the price is a bit high.

Location, location, location.

 

That's what you're paying for as the hotel itself is nothing special. But it's right opposite Adam's Apple and that's probably why they can charge so much.

I don't have recommendations for Chiang Mai, however, if you don't like the price of the gay places, just look for somewhere else that gets good trip advisor reviews.  

Then if you have any doubt about their policy on bringing guests back to your room, e-mail them & ask before booking.

 

I've never found it necessary to pay 2000 baht a night to get a good room in Thailand.

I just reserved a stay in Chiang Mai next October and did not even think of going elsewhere than Mercure Chang Phuak.

 

You have to walk a little to go to Adam's Apple but you will be almost next door to Free Guy, and a short walk to the Santitham area. Free shuttle will bring you to Night Bazar at night if you reserve it. Top's Supermarket is just round the corner. The standard of the place is good enough (pool, etc.) ... and I could go on and on. Why pay more on the pretext that you want a gay hotel.

 

And all this for much less than 2000 THB through Agoda (current price for October : 1410 THB, which is a steal).

 

NB. I do not have any Accor share in my portfolio (in fact I do not have any share at all ...)

PJ's Place is still the best gay B&B in Chiang Mai in MHO.  The place is very comfortable, great garden, spacious with breakfast "made to order", close to two malls (Central/Maya), delightful friendly hosts, near SOHO where you can ask and/ior follow the locals to the action, and only 20 baht away from the night market by red cab.

I was happy with Chang Puak hotel (in walking distance to gay bars and Chang Puak bus station - I do a lot of travel by public transport so this is important to me) for 700 Baht (?) per night last year.

 

This year I stayed in Green Palace (500 Bath (?), near Mall Had Suan Kaew and House of Male Sauna) for exploring area west of the moat.

I agree.  PJ's Place is amazing with friendly hosts and quiet.  I love the 1 bedroom bungalows.

As noted, a lot of people really like PJ's Place.  Peter and Jiap are amazing hosts.

 

Location-wise, it's near the old mall (Kad Suan Gaew) and a reasonably short walk to the new Maya Mall and the Nimmanhaemin area.  For transport to other areas of the city, it's rather easy to grab a baht bus on Huay Gaew or a tuk tuk near the mall (and/or Peter/Jiap can call for a tuk tuk or taxi for you).

 

Regarding the Lotus, the positives would be that Mohammed and the staff are good people and it is located right across the street from Adams Apple.  Negatively, though, the rooms are a bit small and tired and it's not easy to get transportation anywhere near there later in the evening (absent the staff at the hotel or Adams telephoning for a tuk tuk for you).  After about 10PM, it's near impossible to find a tuk tuk or baht bus even if you walk out to Chang Phuak Road.

You're right, Bob. Getting transport into town by tuk-tuk is near impossible, even during the day . Sometimes you can find one outside the Mercure Hotel. If not, be prepared was long wait on the main road.
