Jack Was Here is one of my latest finds in the area of Novels set in Thailand. It is not a gay-themed story, but if you are like me after a few visits to Thailand, a good novel set in the Land of Smiles appeals. There are few quality novels that do have a gay theme. If you can live without that and just relish reading about things, places, and events in Thailand, then Jack Was Here might be for you. I sure liked it. A summary of the story can be found at this link: http://www.andrewlownie.co.uk/authors/christopher-bardsley/books/jack-was-here In short, though, a 19-year old backpacker goes missing in Thailand, and his parents have not had good luck in trying to find him. Enter Hugh Fitzgerald, a soldier who returns to his Australian home with PTSD. Hugh needs something to do, and the family hires him to find Jack. Hugh follows his own rules. The adventure he encounters brings us to various parts of Thai life, and to Thai people. Soon Hugh finds that drug lords may know where Jack is. I had a great time going with Jack into Thailand and Malaysia. When he saw bar girls, I saw bar boys. It worked for me! It's a great story that kept my attention start to finish.

It is so heart warming to read the condemnations of these stupid farangs who exposed their butts in a temple, and how they deserve lashes and other punishment for their crime... Crime? It just came to my attention an episode in the news that confirms that not all is smiles in this land: "Thai cadet’s death, organ removal spark debate on military’s hazing culture" "When the parents could receive the corpse of their 18-year-old son, he lacked brain, heart, stomach and bladder. Now they demand clarification. The death of the cadet sheds light on brutal practices in the Thai military" One can google articles about this incident everywhere. With the smiles of the money boys and other nice Thais we cross everywhere it is easy to forget that there is a repressive regime in place. To give lashes to some immature tourists who exposed their butts in a temple? Is this so different from the case of the American tourist in N. Korea who was caught removing a political pamphlet and thrown in jail which caused his death? I rather choose to live in a country with good individual rights.

Hi guys! Just new here I've been backreading on your posts, and a lot of them are very helpful. Planning to visit Bangkok very soon. I'm just wondering how the mamasans treat fellow Asians (like me). I'm young-ish and presentable and well-prepared to pay for any tips. I'm willing to give more than the usual if the experience is good. (Thanks for your posts, I know how much to give now). I'm just wondering if any of you have experienced discrimination of any sort. Like if the mamasans or the boys look at fellow Asians like at a lower standing? I kind of see that caucasians are like the ones looking really rich and powerful, and maybe they prefer those kinds of customers? Any fellow SE asians here? Thanks! Panther (rawr)

Hey everyone! Hope y'all doing good. Been a long time since i posted here (even though i'm lurking almost daily.) For the first time in almost 2 years, i will have around a 10 days of vacation next month and i'm planning on going to Pattaya/Bangkok (living in Chiang Mai right now but the gay scene here is at the moment 70% dead.... really boring.) The last month have been a very difficult one for me (my friend died at full moon party because she got stung by jellyfish, uncle died, boyfriend left, etc) so i'm basically looking to meet new people, change place and try to have some fun. The last time i been in Pattaya was in 2013 so i guess alot of things changed since then. I have a budget of around 25-35k baht (hotel/transportation paid.) Basically, what i would like to do is: - Meet with other people and make new friends around a good beer or a good meal (preferably foreigners since it's more easy to talk about a variety of things and our love for thai guys). - Organize a party somewhere - Meet twinks fem thai type boys (not too feminine though...) Ya that's basically that. I mainly would love to meet new friends and socialize and meet twinks thai boys. So if anyone of you in either Bangkok - Pattaya - Phuket have any suggestions (go-go, bars, spa, whatever) please let me know. Thanks!
