The places mentioned above sometimes have one or two boys, sometimes have nobody at all. There is no place I would recommend for the tourist to go for street-trade. Whenever I pass those places, it's because I have other business nearby, and I don't expect to meet anyone interesting. I know a few boys who have no phone at all, or some weeks have a phone, some weeks don't have a phone, and change phone number ever time.

I wouldn't. And that's the reason why I don't frequent expensive bars at all, and other bars in Bangkok Soi Twilight only a few times per year. I don't want to start negotiations with "In Pattaya, I pay 1000 for short time, would you go with me for 1000?". The answer would probably be "Then go to Pattaya!" and that's what I do! I can see no justification to pay someone more for the same service, just because he works in an expensive bar. Fortunately, my non-scene regulars in Bangkok whom I pay 500 don't know that I occasionally take boys from Pattaya gogo bars and pay them 1000, I wouldn't know how to justify.

I once observed a new boy (my estimation), fully clothed, entering a gogo bar, eyes wide as saucers when he the working boys on stage. And that was just the beginning of his new job! From experience, I would say there is no training at all for the boys. Take off your clothes, get on stage, that's it. Then it's just a matter of luck of the boy being willing and able to do this job, and having some first customers who teach him.

Absolutely! I take all my business to Pattaya nowadays, even including hotel and travel (by bus), it comes cheaper than going to Soi Twilight (from where I could take a boy back to my room in Bangkok).

That lady should have had a look at the prices, they are displayed outside but you have to know where to look, or better should have asked. But she is right, prices are outrageous. Some years ago, when Saranrom street trade was busy, I used to get boy from there for 500 Baht instead of paying 300 Baht (at that time) to look at boys.

There is a very affordable public bus from airport to town as well (don't remember details, but I took it in either direction in December).

Wherever you decide to retire, my advice is to learn the language. That will give you independence and save a lot of money.

My general impressions from Malaysia (KL in 2010 and Penang in 2015) were ok, but all gay discos and saunas I visited in KL allowed smoking inside, which totally put me off. There is some truth in this. Unfortunately, the only common ground I have with most boys is that I want to get my hands into their pants, and they want to get their hands into my wallet. What you call "an absolutely great night out" probably involved disco, alcohol, loud music, singing, dancing, all of which is anathema to me. Every now and then I take a boy to daytime activities (temples, museums, parks, and the like), but those who are interested and can walk a few kilometer are rare. And then you have the problem of either keeping them over night or meeting them in the morning. I am grooming some boys (all over 18 years old) in Bangkok, you could call that "cultivate a relationship", and it comes at a lower price tag (500 Baht for sex and between 100 and 300 when we meet and don't have sex, although I had had soft moments where I gave 1000 for mocy repair or sick mother), vs. average 400 off fee and 1000 tip for boys from bars in Pattaya.

It will be difficult to have tour guide and sex partner in one person. For sex partner, I would meet in real life first to see if there is a connection. What is your budget? A night in Soi Twilight can quickly get very expensive, and if they realize you are new they might milk you even more. Meet regulars for a chat and drink and to get information would be a good idea. You did not mention if you want to pay for sex. With a bit of luck, you can find someone for free online or in the saunas.

In dark rooms in saunas, a lot of group action goes on. In light, I had only few threesomes, let's say one out of 50 sexual encounters, always initiated by the boys. Only SM I know is in the the few fetish bars (I mean I know such bars exist, but I have never been).
