  1. One Mardi Gras in New Orleans was enough to make me never want to return; and, no, I did not enjoy Mardi Gras. One may say, New Orlinz, New Orlunz or New Or-lee-ans (oh so French).
  2. Sorry Rogie, I didn't have Roy Roger's horse in mind when I wrote trigger. Other rhyming words are rigger, jigger, bigger, digger, figger, bidder, stripper, snicker, shipper, etc. It is just a good-old-boy expression kind of like when we use the term boy to refer to a younger Thai guy.
  3. Oh, I think that Paula Deen is more akin to Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben. Paula just luvs those black folk and even has a special name to call them. It rhymes with trigger.
  4. Portraying people in black face is considered offensive to many in the USA.
  5. No not serious at all.!! I really don't understand the aversion to tipping especially in a place as Thailand where the wages of the working class are so low. If they were earning a living wage such as in Japan or Australia that is another matter. But in Thailand that is not the case and maybe a tip can make a difference in someone's life? In the case of bar boys and a tip, I always get a wai in appreciation of my tip plus a grope.
  6. Many people would agree with you Christian. Although choking to death on a chunk of food might be more appropriate than a maligant cancer. One thing I have noticed in restaurants in Thailand is the waiters/waitresses rarely thank the customer for the tip. Have others observed this or have different experiences? Here is a good article on tipping which appeared in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/12/magazine/12tipping-t.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
  7. Since one of your Thai friends did leave a tip that suggests that tipping is not verboten among Thais. Nice that you paid the bill and nice that your friend left a tip.
  8. Seriously, I know of no one, at least in the USA, that does not eat a pizza with their fingers. Kind of like using a knife and fork to eat a sandwich or a taco although I suppose some people do just that.
  9. Not having seen any recent posts by Fountainhall I then noticed that his avatar is missing and his status is listed as RETIRED. Enjoy your retirement Fountainhall; you will be missed.
  10. You poor chap! Isn't pizza to be eaten with your fingers?
  11. Christian, I trust that you paid the bill of 842 Baht for the three of you? I applaud your Thai friend.
  12. Yes, a palindrome of sorts. EVILOLIVE
  13. Just what you have been waiting for; a little word teaser. Does anyone know what an evil olive is?
  14. My tipping depends a great deal on just how many drinks I tipped before I tip. I recall the word origin "tip" derives from tipple or something like that. The French use a similar expression for a tip, "pourboire" meaning for a drink. Thus you leave some cash for the server for a drink. In Thailand I do see a lot of inconsistency in tipping practices; for instance at the beer bars (although we are frowned upon to mention"bar" in this discussion) it is common to leave 20 Baht even if the drink is 80 Baht but in a restaurant where there is a great deal more service and a much higher bill, a common tip is still 20 Baht.
  15. Here is a link to def of Eristic; basically arguement for the sake of arguement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eristic#cite_note-1
  16. Correction! Eristic not Erastic. Thanks to Rogie.
  17. Word for today = Erastic Given to or characterized by disputations, often specious argument. The art or practice of disputation and polemics.
  18. Wet room = Hong Nam
  19. In Pattaya and no problem accessing Sawatdee although sometimes I do get that message but try again.
  20. I agree with you anonone; nothing wrong with a little kinky sex.
  21. I thought that Levitra had one big side effect? Which reminds me of the list of side effects on a sleeping pill I use, one of which is drowsiness!
  22. It is also my understanding that there is discrimination in the Thai military regarding tatoos; officer candidates are rejected if they have tatoos. Another way of keeping hi-so separated from lo-so and another reasons for hi-so not to be tatooed.
  23. First time uses of Viagra may well experience a rush but with continued use that should not happen again. I believe the best alternative in Thailand is Kamagra from a reputable pharmacy. For me I usually bring Viagra from US since covered by my drug plan. Sending prescription meds to Thailand is not permitted by postal regulations and may be confiscated.
  24. Does this hospital offer coffee enemas to cure cancer?
  25. Great airplane, the 747. Made of aluminum not burnable plastic. When a kid we made model airplanes from plastic components and then crashed them and set them aflame. Boy, did they burn!
